The 2011 edition is an excellent quick filler with a strong baseball theme. Not a sim or a brainburner, but far more than the simple RPS / Top Trumps of earlier editions. The card effects allow for meaningful decisions, great bluff and double bluff, and a game that doesn't outstay it's welcome. 2-player sets starters have decently balanced 30 card decks for play right out of the box.

[Edit] Came back for another play after a couple of years away, and it is still exceptional. Need to play this much more often.

Topps couldn't figure out if they were making a game or just another baseball card. In 2011 they decided to make a real game.

I think the game works pretty well as far as collectible card games go. My son and I play American v. National League. Also available with an online component.

Really Top Trumps with a thin coat of baseball theme painted on . . . that said . . . this can be an addictive game. The theme sometimes is "just enough" for this die-hard baseball fan to pullout the cards, draft a team and challenge a rival. Realism, ah, NO! Statistical simulation, ah, NO! Basic baseball format, ah, NOT REALLY. But, it does deliver some tense moments trying to guess, and second guess, the next pitch. Game Owned: #1345.
