Now this is a euro gem. Plays so well without much downtime and low price point with simple mechanics. What more to say?

Excellent! a better cuba. Wish for cuba's components though. What a great game for this simplicity. Want to play again to judge replayability.

edit: replayability ok so far (7 plays)

One of my favorite tile laying games, and the selection process for whose turn it is is well designed. The scoring modifiers throughout the game (as well as the balancing mechanism for those with "uge tracks of land") are what makes this game very unique.

For those who don't like "economic engine" games, I think you may still like this one, as there is an "engine" aspect to it, but there are enough variables throughout the game that it won't be the primary focus.

Opponent screwage can also be a big factor in this game, so be aware that it can cause "issues" with your friends. Not as bad as Diplomacy, but I get yelled at by my wife on a regular basis when we play, because I always seem to be the one to take that much needed tile that she so desperately wants.

A resource engine builder game with many familiar mechanics yet a unique feel. It uses the Neuland turn order mechanic where you can choose a purchase tile as far up as possible but you don't get to take your turn again until everyone else has passed you. There are a number of different combinations one can build and each player must manage their actions by placing bought tiles on a personal map which triggers adjacent tiles. Later in the game resources can be used to make other resources (whiskey for example). I haven't seen any dominant strategy yet.

An interesting and quick playing Post-Carcassone variant (which resembles 20th Century quiet a bit). I like the theme, despite being very light. A handful of nice balancing mechanics make the game interactive enough to be interesting, although I would have prefered - again - if players would build on the same landscape instead of creating your own little Scotland in front of you.

An ash I know, Yggdrasil its name. With water white is the great tree wet; thence come the dews that fall in the dales. Green by Urth's well does it ever grow.

Here is one that I thought I would like and it turns out that I was right. It has a cool little mechanic where travel around a track collecting tiles to improve your clan, but there is a rub - tiles occasionally have roads or rivers that must be legally placed. You must place the tiles adjacent to a clan member and then the tile activates all of the tiles around it. The market works pretty well too. I don't mind the dummy player when you have only 3, but I think the game shines when you have at least 4. It's an enjoyable game and one that I look forward to playing again.

My favorite game that I tried out at Atlanta Game Fest. Tile placement game with a Scottish theme. Unique tile choice, tile placement, tile activation, and scoring mechanisms. I really liked how this one played and the strategies it allowed. I did OK in both games, but enjoyed it a lot. Reminds me of a Knizia game.

Players move around a board and select tiles many of which create resources. They need to be played orthogonal or diagonal to your meeples and connected correctly to the other tiles. To buy certain tiles requires resources. There are various ways to gain victory points such as coverting resources with certain tiles, buying special cards, selling resources on the market, removing a meeple, and making barrels of ale. Also try not to get too many more tiles than the person with the least since you will lose points.

Solid tile laying game. The differential scoring is an interesting twist. I like the play time. Production values are adequate but on the lower end of "good" games.

Five players is too much. I'm thinking 2-3 players is about right.

Cool little tableau builder with a variable turn order time track and funky VP distribution just for kicks! I like it. Offers some fun spatial/tactical city building decisions. Breaks 'multilayer solitaire' with real tension in keeping track of what other players are doing so you can capitalize upon your differences for income and avoiding big penalties at the end.
