It's one part Ascension, in it's tactical nature and buy/combat row; yet you're building a tableau and can attack other player's tableau/army for points, which is another way to reach an end game condition.

It's strange that those two games have so many similarities yet came out at the same time.

I think I'm leaning toward Graxia a bit more yet Ascension has such a short play time and setup/breakdown to it's advantage.

Good mechanics weighed down by a lot of downtime between turns, at least with 5 players. I'll probably like it more when playing with 3-4.

This feels like Thunderstone should have been. The problem with Thunderstone is that the dungeon bash is deterministic, which leaves no room for tension. Here, the damage means that there is a real opportunity cost to attacking too soon, and you leave yourself vulnerable to attacks from the opponent.

Very provisional rating - need to play it more, then the rating may alter dramatically. One play of a 2 player game and I was intrigued. Lots to like here - muligans to drill for a clutch card (and spells to do the same), nice mix of actions and I like the random appearance of the cards to 'buy' - makes setup and put away a breeze!

However it's not perfect - lots of adding up for combat attack and defence (but if you've played Magic you'd be used to that) but unlike Magic you have to throw all your units into the combat (rather than decide who attacks and then who defends) so it's rather more critical to get it right.

This takes me to my other concern - multiplayer, I could see this suffering from downtime as there is a lot to consider in your turn, and not much planning you can do outside of it - futhermore given the PvP combat you need to get it right, so they'll be checking/rechecking all the time ... probably some play aids (such as MtG spin down dice) for tracking attack/defence will help a bit - but some characters & weapons give big bonuses for PvP combat ...

All in all, a game I suspect I'd play more often with 2 than more ... but with 2 it seems pretty good.

Only 1 game so I'm still at the stage where I haven't really seen the whole elephant yet. I like what I saw. Nicer artwork than Dominion & even Thunderstone. Possibly more interesting interaction than both too, though this is blunted somewhat by the need to count up all the values of coins, attack & defence, etc.

Very MTG like with a splash of Dominion. And oddly it reminds me a little of Through the Ages though cant think why.

There is a lot to get to grips with here; the ever changing combat values, your strength compared to other players, the stage of the game and VPs versus board power. It might be just require a little bit too much housekeeping for me to really get into this game.

From one play i am also a little concerned about how balanced some cards are

This went down better than I thought it would with 3 players. The option is there for player combat, although the first to initiate this may be at a short term disadvantage. Nice variation of the deck building theme, with quite a lot of control over what you can get.

More than a deck building, I would say it is a combination of hero building plus deck building. Many cards can be played on the board. The rules need a little more clarity too, and a couple queries I sent to the publisher went unanswered. Other than that it seems interesting enough. However, I wonder if Resident Evil or Thunderstone will leave any space for this to be played on a regular basis. Lastly, unless you want to do a ton of small number math, keep track of your base attack and defense numbers somehow.

got in the GC Math Trade 2011, played it OCt. 24th for the first time, had Matt read the rules and play test it on his own ( a first for him ) - Not Impressed at all. Wonky to play it with the cards for wounds. I see no real reason to not attack the pother player except getting shitty cards which means the other guy will be attacking you soon. Might be more to it, but after 3 plays I just don't see it coming to the table much. We agreed to try it with no attacks for the first round? OK 12 games into it I get it, clunky game, but decent, to much for Matt to keep track of it all, but a decent game, just maybe unbalanced at only 2 players?

I love Deck Building games. (starting to sound like a broken record). The artwork is fantastic. I am not a direct confrontational player and this game is confrontational. I perfer to hack away at the monsters only. Working on a solo version where the monsters attack. Easy set up and take down is a big plus for me. Wish they had additional expansions.

The game looks really nice and plays quite well, but it is not as slick and streamlined as Dominion. Still, I do like it for the pulp-fantasy atmosphere. I hope the game gets an expansion, because it really begs for it. It is possible that my rating will go up, if that ever happens.

A Dominion style deck-building game crossed with Magic the Gathering by adding player-vs-player combat. Does it work? There are a few minor flaws, but there are some excellent ideas here, and ongoing development should see the release of an even better sequel.

A nice mix of Thunderstone and Dominion, and I think I would like it more than either of those if there was a better way to deal with the player v. player combat. Right now, it seems like (when playing with more than two) everyone else can just pick on the two injured players.

There are some really cool thing going on here, and then a lot of trivial accounting. I'm not sure that the good outweighs the math-test feeling nor the PvP combat.

The deck-building mechanic is definitely workable and interesting.

I think the biggest problem with the game is that the PvP combat doesn't seem very natural. It seems very "kick him while he's down". It's rough in a 2 player, and I can't imagine that it would be better with more players.

An interesting take on the deck-building genre, with more player interaction than Dominion or Ascension. The rules are not the greatest, and there is a fair amount of adding/subtracting large numbers. The theme and artwork is very nice though, and once we got the rules sorted out it was quite a lot of fun. We will definitely be playing it again.

I really wanted to like this game, and there are a lot of good things going on (which is why I still give it a 6). Unfortunately, it just seems underdeveloped. The rules are hard to follow and have several ambiguities, it's too easy to lock the game down so it will take ages, and not having a way in the box to keep track of current attack and defense levels makes it far more mentally taxing (and longer) than it should be. (The costing on cards also seemed way off to me, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that it's my perception off there.) I think I would play a tweaked digital version of this that did the bookkeeping for me. I really like the PvP aspect; made it stand out from the deckbuilding crowd a bit for me.

Late game player vs. Player combat can bog things down a little bit, but this game is a lot of fun. It is fun to build up an army and then take it out to fight monsters or each other. The deck building is secondary to the combat, and that works just fine for me. I appreciate that game can play up to six, but it is not best that way. The more people added creates more down time, so I think it works best with 3 or 4.

Some cool concepts here. The downtime is a little much for my tastes. Due to the broader and random-per-moment selection of cards available, it can be difficult for players to assess what's available for purchase / defeat, especially since their opponents are valid targets. There is good use of iconography on the cards, but none in the text of the cards, which means that you can't at a glance see that you have 7 extra gold to spend on your turn. You have to hunt for text telling you as much. I like the way the individual characters can receive equipment and auras; however, I would really prefer for them to be laid out like the items in Hunting Party, such that each type of item protrudes from a different side of the character. I think this is a pretty solid product, but just not a great match for my tastes.
