"one can immediately see that it is not as streamlined as Rtfg. It feels clunky at places, the iconography is not the best and the chits are horrid. It is a hard game to play well and needs a lot of plays to explore its depths which is the mark of a good game in my book. Right now it gets regular playtime"

"I DON'T look forward to the first game or two, while I'm still explaining things and they're still feeling ambushed and cheated by the little obscure corners of the rules that the designer felt was needed to balance this or that."

"The end result? It's actually a fairly stock-standard {resource}--->{engine}--->{VPs & more resources} style tableau game where the focus is very production-oriented and very solitaire in nature."

"This is essentially a solo game. This is a game I wouldn't take to game night, and I never asked my gaming buddies to play this game with me. I don't like to invite people over just to sit across each other in absolute silence. But if you are the kind of guy who enjoys the RftG solo version get this game, you will love it."

"This game has no, and I repeat NO interaction (well, actually 3 out of 150 cards have some kind of interaction, but hey)."

"It's actually a fairly stock-standard {resource}--->{engine}--->{VPs & more resources} style tableau game where the focus is very production-oriented and very solitaire in nature. Options exist to 'steal' from other players, but they're the exception, not the rule."

"51st State is, once you have the rules in your head, not an overly complicated game. Take an action, move a cube, play a card, do it again. But it is very hard to play, really hard. I now begin to see the first glimpses of strategy appearing on the horizon. "

"This game has no, and I repeat NO interaction (well, actually 3 out of 150 cards have some kind of interaction, but hey)."

"What I love most about the game is that nothing is straightforward. You have to constantly be on your toes. You have to keep track of what your opponent has built and is doing, so you can steal away that one card that is bound to give him a lot of victory points. At the same time you have to be on the lookout for upgrades (redevelopments) and be ready to abandon a particular good sounding strategy if the required cards don't surface."

* Current conclusion
+ Streamlined enough
- Multiplayer solitaire
- Better as The New Era
$ A resource management game (closest games from my collection: Caylus,…)
+ Liked by people who like Race
+ With 2 people, same playing time as Race.
