One of the most fun times I've had playing a game in years, and I play a *lot* of games. Great theme, and we were all holding our breath at the end to see who would win. Arr.

A very fun game that is fun to play with the kids as the mechanics are fairly simple and yet allow each player to develop his own pirate character and style of play.

I can't decide whether to give this a 7 or an 8... PvD is not a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, but what it's got is *lots* of the stuff — imagination, I mean. The theme is hilarious, and there really should be more games about pirates than about zombies. Lots of luck and looooong downtimes keep me from giving a higher score, but there are ways to manage the luck with re-roll cards/powers, and it plays fairly quickly with 2-3 or even 4 players... avoid playing with 5-6 unless you've got lots of pirate rum in your belly.

Until everyone is experienced I don't think it should be played with more than 4 people. Downtime can be a big issue when people have to keep reading their cards.
Luck can also be an issue in when you get to the treasure site.

Nice production value from Jolly Roger. Sweet spot is probably 4 players to avoid down time. Hey, it's got Pirates AND Dinosaurs which is a double bonus, so a thematic winner for me. Of course you'll need to like a bit of "take that" in your games as well as the luck of the draw or you're not going to like this one.

Only a half a play for me. I like the concept, but this game is way too long with six players - it took me 45 minutes between turns. Mid play again, but I'm not playing with that many.

Supported on Kickstarter. A really great looking game that ultimately had too much downtime between turns to be fun. A player's turn involves too many steps with too many cards with too much text.

An amusing game, but too long for what it is, and the dinosaur attacks at the dig site are totally pointless - a toothless dinosaur, you might say.

During our first play, dinosaurs attacked during the dig phase several times (including the volcano tile that made dinos hit everyone) and the only person who lost even a single crew member was someone doing really poorly in the game and had just arrived at the dig site with only 9 crew.

It made me ask, what was the point? Most of the time, people are going to go to the dig site with lots of crew and/or will get more while there. This means lots of dice to roll. Having a 2/3 chance of success - with cutlasses counting as successes at the dig site - on all dice means that you have to be pretty unlucky to incur even a single loss (unless you're foolish enough to opt to not go with lots of crew to carry swag back to your ship). So really all the dinos do there is cause someone to not get treasure on a draw. It might have just as well been an empty treasure chest.

The game could be improved (IMHO) by not counting cutlasses as successes at the dig site. And that might be more thematic - you're digging away, focused on the treasure, and don't see them coming. Sure it would make fighting dinos a lot harder (without cards to give dice/rerolls) but it would make for much more interesting things happening at the dig site - people having to stay longer at the site to get more crew to replace losses.

Cool advanced family game. A good deal of luck, but not terrible. The mechanics are very well tied into the theme. Not a great game, but a very enjoyable one. Player interaction is good.

EDIT: This is probably too slow with 5 players. I will re-review the rules. One of the things that throws the speed off is that you draw at the beginning of your turn, and thus people may vary their strategy about it.

Kickstarted, and gave to my 8 and 6 year old nephews for Xmas. Played for the first time with them and one other 8 year old. Bit too much card text for that age group, and the downtime in the first half of the game was long. Once you get to the dig site, the game improved immensely for the kids. Looking back, the first half of the game is way to luck dependent and random. A few simple house rules could probably salvage. Beautiful components and artwork.

Not an overly difficult or complex game. Beautiful artwork. Game is relatively simple to play and really easy to teach. Just enough depth to make it interesting and keep it fairly light making it easy to introduce new players to. End game mechanic seems somewhat disconnected from the rest of the game. Might be more interesting with 4 players as there would be more competition.

I expected a children's game of sorts because the designer wrote he designed it for his son. But when I opened the box and saw the rule book and the extensive texts on the cards, I doubted it would be really suited for children. Well, part of it is of course the text is in English, so I have to wait a few years before I can play this with my nephews.

The game has some easy features in it though and overall I could teach the gameplay rather easily to my nephews (find the same pieces on the board you have on your own ship, when you have three pieces, you can go to the dig site), but for the text I have to wait until they are at least 6 or 7. The game is fun to play and really cutthroat since you try to kill each other off constantly with dinosaur attacks, ninja attacks (reeeaaally nasty) or villagers/zombie attacks.

Major drawback is that the game is turn based and you can't do very much in each others turn. At the moment turns take some time because of the extensive texts on the cards, but I guess that will diminish somewhat when you know what all cards do. Although all cards have double functions and same picture doesn't mean same function.

I wouldn't play it with more than three.

Alright game. The digging portion seems somewhat anti-climactic after the initial island portion. Also, IMO too many treasure tiles versus hazard tiles.

Maybe after additional plays it'll improve.

The theme is really fun, and the push your luck, screw your neighbor type gameplay is fun, but it plays way too long and feels even longer since there is tons of downtime. A close miss.

Most of the kickstarter games I've played would hugely benefit from some development work. A lot of interesting ideas with fatal flaws.

Artwork and theme = mostly awesome.
Game length = waaay too long.

I'd have liked longer, more involved conflicts with the island's inhabitants, and less... ...well, less of the rest of the gumph. More of the cards having stronger positive powers would have been saucy - as it is the game gets sucked into quicksand, draining the fun out of the experience.

The game would have been much improved if it played out in half the time.

The basic idea seems a cool enough mashup, and it's good some decent chrome bits, but maybe there are too many different cards and bits. It is simply way too long for what it is and needs some mechanism to allow for faster exploration. In the one six-player game I played I was *incredibly* lucky and matched my two map pieces on my first two turns, a ridiculous stroke of luck. One other player managed to follow me to the dig site in short order but all other players had made no progress on finding pieces and just quit the game rather than trudge on.

My snarky post-game suggestion for improvement was to simply start everyone on the dig site, and then someone else said, "Yeah, and just rename it 'Don't draw a volcano!'"

If there was something to speed up the exploration phase and to mitigate the terrible player downtime it might be a viable game I'd retry, but it's one-and-done for me.

This game gets 3 points for it's components, art and theme. The gameplay is awful. A true richard launius design. Tedious gameplay at a premium.

Let me play this to cost you 2 crew. you play a card to get 2 crew back so it gives you an extra dice with a 1in3 chance to do what you neat. repeat for a few hours with lots of downtime on your turn with no meaningful decisions to ponder.

When my group tried really hard to play this with 5 people the down time was a min. of 15 minutes between turns. It was the first game that everyone pulled out their cell phones after each turn because the down time was so long and the game was that interactive. I personally thought it was not a good game because skill doesn't count for much and it's a really long game for a luck fest. I did love the art and T-Rex meeple.
