Simple rules but difficult decisions abound. Great turn order system. It would be nice if this got the same deluxe treatment (component upgrade) as Fire & Axe got, since it really is a deserving game. Still the components are functional and the map is great. Gets a high score because it scales well, 2, 3 or 4 player. I never bothered to get Small World or Vinci since I have this.

Great euro style wargame, With some great components this would be a great game! Lower quality components do make it less actrative! This is one of those gems that gets overlooked.

An outstanding game, looks like a wargame, plays like a "German" game, and holds the players' interest for the two hours or so it plays out. Well-balanced, and doesn't suffer from using different numbers of players; game plays out in around the same time with any number of players.

I thought it had innovative mechanics.

I liked the concept of setting of the turn order of the game before you really started.

Kind of a dice-free Britannia played out over 24 turns where players draft turn sequence during setup. Very enjoyable, but you need to get the attack rules straight in your mind, and possibly prone to downtime if there's a significant gap between your turns.

This game had a whole lot of fun stuff going on. The deterministic combat, the balancing act of keeping your array with your own people in, the clever ways you can destroy pieces loyal to other players stuck in your array. It's a bit long, but other than that the game was really fun.

There aren't enough games like this one; games that explore alternative mechanics. For that, the game gets bonus points.

Good fun, though a lot of the time the best move is obvious. Limited replayability, but the history is interesting.

Quite a fun little game! Quite abstract, but moves at a good pace, with some decisions to make. One of those tough to get going, but then you get the hang of it. Love the cloth map. Always so hard to find opponents for this kind of game around here, though.

I'd kind of prefer nicer components, but the game design if very solid and interesting. I can't think of another game this feels like.

There is a lot of strategy in the turn-order selection. There is some luck in the draw bag, but you can usually find something useful to do even if you get the 'wrong' guys.

Its definitely a game where you pick your spots.

We got a kick out of the fact that the VP chits are turned face down and 'hidden' even though each denomination is an easily recognizable distinct shape.

I'd play this one any time.

Quite a good game. Seems to play quite fast, with each king (turn) not taking overly long to play. The 3 player game (only 1 i've played), seems to need a few more pieces in the household as we found ourselves not having many of our own pieces to use in each turn (and barbarians continuously were turning up, as they make up a higher percentage of the units when missing the 4th player colour).

Like nearly all Ragnar Brothers designs, there are a lot of interesting mechanisms in here. A touch long, true, but still always engaging.

Very enjoyable and unusual, especially with the newer rules for choosing monarchs at different points throughout the game instead of just at the start. I'd love to redesign the pieces though.

Neat little game. It might take longer than it should if people over-analyze their moves, but ultimately I like the game.

Falls between a euro and a wargame, with an interesting central mechanic. However, downtime can be an issue, and a complete game is probably too much for your average eurogamer.

Enjoyable war/Euro hybrid. Rating after 1 game - need to manage own houshold carefully as turns can be pretty lightweight if you have no men to get on to the map

Liked it more than I thought I would from the rules. The random troop draw creates unusual, interesting dilemmas.

I'm not much of a house-ruler, but this game is crying out for auctions, on both strategic and thematic grounds. Next time I play, I will suggest that players start with some money, and have a bidding process at the outset of each reign (rather than drafted at the beginning). Same rule will apply - no player can go twice in a row and there will need to be a rule to force someone to take a reign that no one wants (perhaps player to the left of the last person to move).
