I like how it scales up with more complex rules. And the ability to play historic teams. There is a lot of dice rolling, but that okay. I like dice games.

ATCS is not a bad soccer-sim. A bit chart heavy, but at least it is no APBA.

I too got caught up in the 2010 World Cup hype and find this a nice supplement to let me down easy. I think The World Cup Game captures the overall of feel of the individual cups better; but this really gives you the chance to take one of the great teams from all time all the way. Not as abstract.

Good, but not the best, but still very good. It is fun to play-if you have a void of WCS to fill.

If you like soccer (ok, football) and strategy games, then you will like this game. Easy to set up, easy to learn, it promises a lot of fun.
A first look to the rules may lead you to think that it is just dice-rolling, but don't be wrong, right decission at the right moment can make you win the game. You can almost feel the tension of a real match!
Highly recommendable.

(7.5 Self-Rated) First, an admission: I am more of an American Football fan than a soccer fan, and like several Americans--do not find soccer as exciting or interesting. Now that is over--I am starting to contradict that admission. I fell prey, again like several Americans, to the USA-hype in the 2010 World Cup Finals. But instead of just drinking, cheering and then being utterly depressed by the almost inevitable outcome for Team USA, I channeled it into a game. I find that I learn more about a sport, event or period of history when I try my hand at simulating it (or at least aspects) in a board game. I started a full week in the Cup and "finished" it 3 days after Spain beat the Oranje to become the 8th Country to win the World Cup. I learned a lot and now enjoy the sport with greater appreciation. I am still proofing a bit and always like to run a few more playtests; but basically done. It is based on the actual performances of 64 historic teams; but is not a pure statistical simulation (ala Strat-O-Matic). It has 6 levels of play and you can choose from 9 formations, 3 strategies and 7 tactics. Again, it is not meant to be a grind-it-out kick-by-kick or pass-by-pass game. However, I do think it captures some of the tension of the World Cup and provides a lot of options for play--from qualifying rounds, group play, knock out rounds, a 64 knock out tournament (ala the Final Four in College Basketball) or just plain friendlies. You could even start a league or use auctions and drafts to select teams.

Please note that I am not a whiz at graphics (well, you will figure that out for yourselves), but the game is playable as is . . . out of the box, um . . . off the printer . . . and I welcome comments on upgrades, fixes, etc.

Most of all . . . just have fun with it!

Man I love the mechanic used in this simulation. But the tables need tweaking to make things more true to life. This one is on the cusp of being a really nice game, just enough tactics and strategies involved to give the feel of a coach, and dumb luck for your opponent to frustrate all your machinations to the contrary. 2011 Women's World Cup Final would be that dumb luck!! Someone create those teams for this game so I can replay it and get the CORRECT result!
