Great dungeon crawling game with a Cthulhu theme. Great with a nice GM trying more to have enjoy the game rather than win.

The number one game on my must-play (and have) list. Finally I got around to play. I say finally, yet it has only been released for a couple of weeks, but it felt like ages.

I think it is a great experience but like many other themed games, especially the similar Arkham Horror and Betrayal, I found that it depends heavily on who your are playing the game with when it comes to the question of having fun or not.

Luckily, my group was a blast and we managed to steal the victory from poor Mark who had a hard time once we discovered the sinister plan brooding in the mansion filled with maniac hairdressers.

Still, a few things that did not convince me at first play:

A. The puzzles are neat and definitely a nice detour from the common flow of Ameritrash games but I think they generate too much downtime and feel disconnected from the other part of the game.

B. The customization options are too limited

C. In general, the number of available cards in one scenario (as in equipment, events, monsters) is too limited

D. I doubt that this game is highly replayable. I think the designer managed to make it as replayabe as possible considering the storytelling nature of the game but I cannot see this holding up after more than 10 plays (without expansions), which is not my money's worth

E. The scenario felt a little bit scripted and the choices were limited, especially once the victory conditions had been discovered

Apart from that, awesome stuff

In comparison to "Betrayal at House on the Hill":
Components: +++
Creative Writing/Stories: -- Korey is not a professional writer like Glassco, although this is only in comparison. The stories ARE good.
Gameplay: ?+ about the same. Bit more strategic, particularly becase the bad guy plays a bit like Descent's overlord. But not the fulfilling strategic game we were expecting.
Replayability: ?- Same, maybe a bit less.

If you do not own "Betrayal at House on the Hill"
Buy it. It is a good family interactive story game with excellent components and good gameplay. You should own either this, or Betrayal, or Tales of the Arabian nights(more storytelling, less strategy)

Pretty gruesomely long first play, though I had only read the instructions and not deeply. We fumbled through, but ultimately made it. Great narrative. Looking forward to playing again but shooting for a more reasonable running time.

Had a great game where I was able to commit suicide to thwart the Keeper and allow the other investigators to win.

I really liked this game. It was extremely thematic. I really liked having a board game that actually told a story. I very much want to play this one again.
