This game is quite excellent! It takes a bit of time to learn the rules, but the effort is well worth it. This one is a definite keeper! I would LOVE to see an updated version dealing with Afghanistan.

A point-to-point movement game for solo play. Hmm... the map looks dumb. But an interesting design on a war that still lingers on today Americans. Although scant reviews and comments were on it, and despite some minor omissions (e.g. no Hold markers and VP markers, no Command Point cost for recovering Aero-rocket helicopter company, etc.) First Team: Vietnam is a real gem! It gave the fullness account of how the American tactics of Search and Tactics work and the North Vietnamese Army's hit and run tactics, often resulting in heavy casualties on its own in the face of pouring and horrendous American firepower.

Enjoyable - rules can be a bit wonky due to organization and some ambiguities. So... back and forth to rules inevitable - but it clicks with several plays. In fact I think this game requires several plays to really have any idea of what you should do and need to do in order to achieve a victory. A viable solo experience were the system does play well enough to give you an actual adversary - and a RARE Vietnam War solo game. Nice fog of war simulated with hidden NVA movement on the board and a well thought out command point and supply management mechanics. A hard lesson learned - always retain some command points for arty and air support allocation. Will get some millage out of this title. If you enjoy solo gaming and you are interesting in the Vietnam War - a must have in my opinion.

Good solitare system. The game does a nice job of simulating the ambush type of attacks that the VC/NVA launched against USA forces. The American player must be very careful with his deployment otherwise he will find himself in a situation similar to the movie "We Were Soldiers". Overall, good job simulating Vietnam style warfare.

Odd map and movement system. Shows how if you get the NVA in the open you can cut then to shreds with your firepower, as well as showing why you can never use all your firepower. Seems to be one of the better solitare games Ive ever played as your defending, and responding to the NVA so you cann't have a perfect system like other solitare games.

This is an unjustly overlooked little gem, a well-working solitaire game. Copied later (without attribution as usual) by Vae Victis magazine who substited a different combat system and an area map rather than the point-to-point map. With the roadbound US forces, the point-to-point map actually made more sense and Dave Fuller knew how to make them look good. No comparison to the anemic sticks-and-boxes maps that GMT sells today.

Very good to play. Haven't played in a while but as a solo game has plenty of decisions to make & tense. Hope to get it on the table again and play this new year 2007!!

Preliminary rating. My gut says this is one of the better solitaire games I have come across. I like a lot about it. It's just really hard to grok because the rules are so terse. Being such an old game, you figure there's going to be no designer support and being a lesser-known magazine game, the boards aren't hopping. It's frustrating, but I'm not trading it, because if I can figure it out, I think it's going to be worth it.

Clever little game, I didn't think much of the graphics and the choice of colours for the counters was not the best but it plays fine and the rules seem to cover everything, at least as a solitaire game you don't have to worry if you are playing it correctly

Mixed feelings. I made a serious effort to get into this game, but it just didn't succeed for me. It's a pain to learn because the rule book is poorly organized, and it's easy to forget many nuances. It has some nifty mechanics (like the offboard movement system that allows NVA units to penetrate the operational area while avoiding contact). Combat results seem a bit haphazard, and there's no real sense of progress or reward for good choices. While the game probably does a good job of simulating the frustration of the US side in the conflict, it doesn't necessarily make for an interesting player experience.
