The game looks fantastic.

The 16 scenarios are a nice grouping, mixing different nationalities, famous battles and unit types together. With only 300 units, naturally to won't get every type of AFV but I am sure more will come in the future but Desert Heat does a go job of picking just enough AFV types to make it look very fun to play.

Nationalities: The British which also represent the Commonwealth as well, as the Commonwealth countries will have to wait another day to get their own colors. The French counters are used for both the Vichy and Free French, and of course the Germans, Italians and Americans. Overall a very nice mix.

The Maps, for Desert maps these are some of the best I have seen and no warping and just beautiful.

Rules and charts, all color, very nice.

Great looking product, I would grade it an A or a 10 here.

A great selection of scenarios on the North Africa campaign.

Rating based on first play of scenario 12... adds more variety to Nations at War base game... components are excellent, with better finish on this set than any previous Nations/World at War products... plays fast, simple rules, lots of dice... minor complaint--tons of info on each counter, making it hard on the eyes even with 1" markers...

See my comment on White Star Rising. The scenarios are better in this one. If you *can* bring yourself to look past the fudging on the OOBs, you should. Fun, challenging and leaves me looking forward to more of the system.

Finally some quality boards in the box with nice black backing. I like the units in this one and the open terrain being fought over. Seemed like it took them forever to get this one out the door.

This is so-so. I think World at War, the 1985 WW3 analogue to this series works better and has more of a spring. Nations at War feels somehow sluggish, the formations more like globules of ectoplasm crawling across the landscape. I find the historic errors in this set particularly irksome - for some reason that Piat particularly gets to me.

I hated the box cover at first but now like it; it is retro, some of the lettering reminding me of Doomed Battalions - noted the same sort of retro styling on the cover of the Nations at War Operation Cobra expansion.

I've played five scenarios so far and find them a little dull - a LnL tendancy I've noticed quite a bit recently, their recent LnL expansions have had similarly uninspiring scenarios. Nevertheless I will keep the faith with this company and this series and, who knows, may revise my views of Desert Heat in the weeks to come...

Bought an Xmas gift for self. Wrapped it up. Cannot open (again) till Christmas.

Opened, boxed, and been through the rules. Played one scenario so far.

Enjoying the small footprint! Loathe the colour bands for my aging eyes.

Usual LnL game. Good system, decent (sometime oustandign) graphic, some annoying problem in recording informations (I am not convinced of Nations at War transport system, it is much less convenient to use than separate transport counters, and there is no convenient way to indicate dust status); interesting mix of scenarios... awful research. Well this time they did a fantasy game on the western desert... luckily LnL historical debacles tend to be fixed in Line of Fire.

I am usually a big fan of LnL games and I quite enjoyed White Star rising (in spite of all its design issues). Quite unfortunately, Desert Heat does not do it for me. As already highlighted by some, the historicity of some scenarios is laughable and the gaming experience itself is kind of limited by the simplicity of the system. I guess I'll just pass on the next game in the serie.

I haven't been able to bring myself to play this yet. I love White Star Rising and Operation Cobra, but Desert Heat, which I waited for eagerly, was a big disappointment because of the generic counter mix. What should have been typical 1941-42 tanks were genericized to keep a small counter mix that can cover 1940 to 1943 scenarios. Thus you have Crusaders in 1940 scenarios and Panzer IVG in 1942.

I would have paid more for a fuller counter mix OR the designers should have limited the scenarios to one period such as the Crusader battles of late '41, Gazala in mid '42, El Alamein in late '42, Tunisia in '43, etc.

The desert war saw a wide variety of AFVs over its three years duration. I think they would have had a hit if they did a more focused game and then added supplements for other periods of the war and introduced new counters for them.

Unsatisfactory choice of vehicles and formations composition (mostly tailored for Tunisian campaign even if many scenarios are set in 1941-1942).
Questionable values in a few types.
See my posts here http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1035133/there-doesnt-see... .
Usual excellent graphics, simple rules and good replayability.

A year's wait after my card was charged, and it seems that LnLP still couldn't get it right. Bad history (inexcusable), poor countersheets (miscut and hard to read), and even a truly awful box cover. Solid maps are small consolation.

The history is so bad here, I don't know what to think. Would hobbyists want to play the Battle of Midway (1942) with a US carrier that wasn't available until '43? How about Me 262's included in a historical OOB for the Battle of Britain (1940)?

What the publisher should have done was include an extra countersheet in the game. I feel bad for the designer getting stuck like this.

Nothing but a disappointment from top to bottom - I have zero desire to play this and don't want a game like this in my collection. Refunded, and I've pretty much given up on LnLP.
