The best new game I have played in 2004. The blending of resources is sublime.

The immediate view of its quality was to compare this game with Puerto Rico and Princes of Florence, both of which it resembles in various ways.

While there is some solitaire planning, you do need to follow what others are doing and the auctions of course do involve all players.

Even after playing this a few times, there appear to be multiple routes to victory, which suggests the game is as promising as it feels.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is a 10 game for me.

I'm hooked. Best game of 2004. A big, balanced, challenging game that should appeal to players who like some meat on their game plate. Update: I'm thrilled with the "A New Expedition" release. It implements many of the things we've been fixing via house rules for years!

A hobby gamer's game, with Florence's auctions + actions (but with extra actions), Genoa's trading tower (modified), Industrial Waste auctions, Cities & Knights level-up (but without the resource dice). Many different strategy paths.

This game is at the top of my list. It's an excellent 2 player game and also scales well to 4 players. My wife likes it which is a plus for me. I also like how close the game scores are at the end, making losing players not think that you creamed them to much. :-) I found this easier to teach than Puerto Rico. You do use the whole 1.5 hrs or more to play, which does not bother me. I highly recommend this game.

Wonderful and deep game about developing spice trade in east. Auction system is clever for it is fast but need careful judgement about tile values and strategy adopted. Furthermore players can inflate or deflate currency with their actions and this is very important.
Played many times and still evalueting different strategies. Cards can seem too powerful, but my experience is that the game is very well balanced. There is not just one winning path.
Our group record is 51 points using ship/spice strategy. Note that in our latest games all 4 players score well above 40.

Reneszánszát éli nálam e játék. És most kipróbáltam két fővel is, nem csalódtam.
Erősen kiegyensúlyozottnak tartom, a játékosok jellemzően elég kis pontkülönbséggel fejezik be a partit.

We initially missed the rule that part A and part B each lasted 4 rounds, and were playing until all 25 tiles were taken. This made the game too long. Played correctly the game is the perfect length (1.5 - 2 hours). Absolutely brilliant game.

A brilliant game that benefits from random tile layouts to keep the game fresh and a well designed auction mechanism to keep it balanced. Player interaction is limited to the auction phase similar to Princes of Florence. I consider this a boon towards limiting kingmaking. Others may prefer more direct conflict.

Goa is a captivating game. It's the type of game that forces you to think 3 steps ahead and just when you think you've figured out a game plan, you're adapting a new strategy.

There are two wonderful elements to Goa. The auction phase and the action phase. I would even venture to say the auction phase trumps that of Princes of Florence. This has quickly become one of my favorites.

The auction phase is critical to your gameplan. Try to bluff, try to win, but never let anyone know how much money you have in your hand.

I'll play this any time. This is just a solid, solid game that's so full of choices it boggles the mind. I find myself agonizing over which decision to make, and then kicking myself for making it. That may not sound fun, but it really is. I like being able to try out different strategies each time. With some games that just doesn't work very well.

Wow, probably the best game released in 2004. Really enjoyable, current favourite by far! *Update: Played about 8 games in 3 weeks and I must say I am not disappointed! The auction is really the bread and butter of this game and it plays great with either 3 or 4 players (have not tried 2 player yet). By the way the Goa_turn_tracker, found here on the Geek, is excellent!

Right up there for favorite game, Goa combines auction with player development rounds a la Princes of Florence. The key difference is that the Auctions in Goa are even more exciting, and the player rounds have a certain competitive edge with a little more going on. Trying to figure out the best timing and connecting all of your decisions into the best possible result is fascinating, especially when you have to be flexible due to the auction. Can go too long with certain players, but I'll rate them down for that instead of Goa. Always want to play and expect that never to change.

One of my favorite 2 player games. Rating would be lower with more players as card track dominates, money is weird, and flag provides less control. But I only play with 2 and it's great.

This game is FABULOUS! Already one of my favorites. It is definitely a longer "gamers" game, but that's the kind I like best. So many paths to victory, every auction or action is so important, and every game is different because of the different auction setup. I am sure I will be playing this game for years to come and still finding new strategies. If you like the meatier german games, you will love Goa.

I've been on this site for 10 years now, and I'm far from sick of games, but I think I am, to some degree, sick of learning too many new games. I'm also tired of playing 4+ hr multiplayer games, but I'll still happily play really long games 2 player.

[9 plays] I am deeply impressed with Goa. Each time I discover and further develop tactics. Few other games cause my brain to burn as pleasantly as Goa does at moments. I think Dorn has created a brand new animal, and like a platypus, it reminds you of other parts of other animals, but nevertheless is its own unique beast. Also, this is a tremendous game for 2 players, very unusual for a game using an important auction element.

Every time I play Goa, I find myself halfway through the game marveling at how I cold have forgotten how much I love it. This is definitely in my first box of desert island games.

Most recent play at GameCamp 2013.

2nd most recent play 6/4/11 with Michael and Corey. Man I love this game. I felt like I was big time behind to Corey's expedition card machine, but my more balanced approach paid off in the end.

Very deep game that plays 2 players with as much depth. A definite keeper. The best game in my collection. It is not only fun, but a very enjoyable experience with each play. The way everything works together makes it such a good game. The auction is done in a good way. Of all the auctions games I own, this is one of the best, fair and enjoyable. The start player "button" needs to go for a lot, else the game will be very good for whomever wins it consistantly.

This game has everything that I enjoy in eurogames - bidding for privilege, random board set up, many choices but can only do one, tension to do more than you are allowed, tight games with experienced players.
