Amazing, deep, abstract game. Every single move counts. Like Go and Chess, the more you play the deeper it gets.

The 3M line had had several innovative strategic games. This one is very simple but always interesting. Not for those who hate abstract games.

Have three version : 3M box of 1962, Schmidt box from the 70's or 80's, and a special travel box with pens. A marvelous game !!!
Hope to find the biggest version with more than 4 parts from 3M.

Own the old and rare German edition from Schmidt. The pieces are red and black and the board is grey. The rules are in German, Italian, French, and Dutch and are printed on the bottom as well as explained inside in a rule book. Lucked out and got this Jan 2004 from Sarah Kestering (gonzo104), when she was living in New Mexico, for 8 dollars US. It's starting at 9 euros on eBay Germany, now, Jan 2007.

This has become an inordinately large part of my life. I have flown across the Atlantic to play in tournaments. My license plate is TWIXT. This is a very tactical and confrontational two player abstract. As such, it's not everyone's cup of tea. But it's the most intense gaming experience I know.

Probably the best abstract game there is. So simple, yet so deep and elegant. It annoys the hell out of me when I lose games against better players in only a couple of moves. However, all that only makes me want to play more games.

Rating increased to 8 after several plays. A better connection game than Hex with sufficient maneuver space and nifty components that have stood the test of time. It's easy to fathom its popularity.

Great 2-player game. I enjoy this one a lot more than chess (maybe also, because i´m a poor chessplayer).
You should precalculate a lot of moves here also!

fabulous concept. You gotta think a few steps ahead in this one. Haven't picked up too many tricks since I don't get to play this very often and it's a bit of a brain burner. The pieces look fabulous and it's quite challenging because the tide turns quickly in this game and one mistake or one brilliant move is the difference between winning and losing. No luck here as well. The smarter player wins.

I am often surprised that people who have never heard of Hex have fond memories of Twixt. Does the box really smell nice or something? Finally got my copy on eBay - mystery remains unsolved. Very intriguing game; is further away from Hex, Y, Unlur, or Havannah than any of that group are from each other. Brashly raised my rating to 10 after two games, but in putting together my personal top ten, couldn't quite justify that. Tons to learn, though, and could make its way back up to a 10, but only if I lose a lot more.

Best abstract connection game. The only complexity in the rules is the possibility to rearrange connexions but that doesn't occur very often. Drawback is the same as all the strategy abstracts: a good player will always beat a weak one.

Very good and quick tactical connection game. Rules are the simplest possible, gameplay is incredibly elegant. The game is primary tactic, although strategy is important expecially in the very first moves. It's incredible how a match can be lost for one single pin here instead of 1 point away. And it's even more incredible when, against a stronger player, you feel the same at move 2 or 3.
One of my favourite games.

This was the first really decent game that I got hold of. I bought it back in 1987 circa and it is still in my gaming shelf.
It is certainly not the oldest game in my collection but it is the earliest addition (to my collection) still left.

A simple and deep abstract that is like a tightrope walk - one wrong move and you’ve probably just plummeted to your death. This can make for some real tense games! It has jumped straight into my top 10. Abstracts like this you play for the rest of your life.

A great quick play abstract strategy game I've been playing since the 1970's. I can sit down and play a game of this with my 2nd grade daughter. And it can get pretty intense with two evenly matched players.

Along the lines of Hex, only deeper. The board perhaps needs to be a few rows larger, to add complexity, but other than that quibble this is a top-notch abstract strategy game.
