Now, that is the way I have always wanted Power Grid to be, different every time. With the modulis system you can play any amount of players, including 2, without having to "cut out areas of the map to fit the correct number for each size, and for the most part it is as equal to each player due to the costs to connect over the waters. I like my attempts at making this expansion, but I wish it would be picked up by a professional company as an official expansion I could buy with quality components, especially gameboard-thick modules. Those who put this together have placed a lot of care into it. It is a wonderful expansion that brings an already great game, more greatness. If you have the effort needed, create this expansion. You won't be disappointed after playing just one game. The artwork is perfect for the theme, and to bring it into line with the basegame. I can't get over how much effort was put into making this masterpiece, and to make it free - you couldn't ask for anything more (unless a professional production company could make a copy possible)

Totally awesome print-n-play expansion for Power Grid, giving you the ability to create a modular board for an already great game. With my group, it was love at first try.

One of the best version of Power Grid since it's modular and you can almost create anything with it. Great concept for the cost of the connection too. My favorite game just got better.

i already love the base game, and i love most anything with a modular board. some people say a random board can result in an unbalanced layout, but friedemann himself said (on boardgames with scott) that the original german board is unbalanced, but that it doesn't matter because all the info is open. no one's forcing you to start in a city with expensive connections all around. a lopsided victory or loss probably has more to do with an imbalance in skill level than in an imbalance in the map.

Great way to have unlimited Power grid maps. Sometimes the map can be unbalanced but the game sorts itself out in a great way.

My copy. Looks. Freaking. Fantastic.

A terrific modular board for Power Grid. It's still Power Grid, which is an excellent game. But the possibile combinations of the tiles will extend the life of the game indefinately (assuming you never tire of the mechanics, or the same guy who comes over to your house always winning).

I rate this slightly lower than PG and the expansion due to fiddle factor. It was fun and educational to make, and I've enjoyed both plays of the game, but it adds about 10 minutes to the setup with the haggling over tile placement and connection fees. Balance can be an issue, too, as most of us are not gifted game designers. Still, it's beautiful and a fresh change of pace from commercial PG.

This is a great expansion. Put everyone on equal ground as far as "knowing" the map every time you play. I mark this 1/2 point lower because it adds to setup time.

Due to the random placement of the link cost tiles, this version can create some pretty wild combinations. Players will have to adapt their strategies, and there are possibilities of players sitting alone in a "corner" and spreading while the other players don't reach them.
If this doesn't bother you, this can be a great addition.
Very professionally made.

I went ahead and built this on the cheap for under a few bucks, and like Power Grid this one is a winner. It has the additional functionality of being quite portable and quite playable with all sorts of game players. The additional random dynamic of the changing game board offer a new game board everytime to keeps folks guessing.

Played once. Really like the modular set-up. Only problem is the random distribution of pipe cost. You can get situations where pipes on the board are totally useless and will never be used. Might decide in future plays to take out all 1-5 & 21 tiles to not get extremes.

Un punto menos que el original al ser una extensión con muy buenas posibilidades, agradezco la que se puedan jugar mapas distintos cada vez, más estrategía y equilibrio entre las zonas, la mejor opción a los mapas originales, pero el concepto es el concepto.

This "free" (cost money to assemble) expansion to Power Grid has met with a lot of favor from my gaming group. It greatly expands the variety of play to a game that can feel stale when played on the US/GERMAN base maps.

I'm not too sure about this expansion: a new map to play on would probably be nice from time to time, but since some/many of the connection costs are entirely random the board is likely to be unbalanced. Would like to play it more, although I doubt we'll go to the effort of putting a nice version of this together.

This map is a good change from the standard, buyable maps, especially since it's modular and can be shuffled around. However, I don't play Power Grid often enough to really need that extra variety. The randomization can lead to nonsensical connection prices and problematic placements for some players.

One of my game group members assembled this as a Christmas gift to our group, but it lives at my house because I'm the host. :-) We've played it once and really enjoyed it. It's good that you don't need to cover up an area or remember to not build there. It also spreads the cities out physically (we picked the maximum number of tiles for our number of players and put a neutral tile in the center of the 3x3 grid) so you don't have the problem of super crowded cities as on a historic map.

The between islands connections can be troublesome and illogical. Otherwise, it plays just like Power Grid except that board positioning can be a bigger factor in this version.

Rating based on a single play. This gives you the ability to quickly build new maps for each game. My one complaint is that too many of the cities are effectively co-located (zero cost between them). I think I'll play that all cities between maps have a small (1-9) cost chit between them, and save the big cost chits for the connector hexes. Or some such. Still, if you like Power Grid this is worth trying.

(expansion) This is a print-and-play expansion for Power Grid. It works reasonably well, but do not use the suggested inter-island connection costs. Instead print additional copies and use numbers between 5-15 only with extra copies of the middle range (8-12). If inter-island costs are too low or too high, it adversely affects gameplay.

After one play, it seems that it might be a little better to setup up the map less randomly. What we wound up having was basically three islands separated by high connection costs. Because of this, I was stuck in one corner of the board for much of the game.
