This adaptation of a multi-player game to a 2-player format is outstanding. It's a fine 2-player game in its own right, and also serves as an introduction to the main game. I actually think I enjoy it more than the multi-player version.

(Is this an expansion or a condensation?)

Components with C3i #19. A great deck for learning the game. Enables players to focus and learn the niceties of theological debating, reformation and counter reformation attempts. If you do not pay equal attention to these aspects as to the military side, you will probably lose.
Rating increased for this expansion after a couple of plays. Makes the whole game more accesible, and great teaching tool.

Great to have a way to play Here I Stand with just two players in a manageable time frame! The religious struggle between the Protestants and the Papacy is a great story in itself.

There is a road, no simple highway, between the dawn and the dark of night, and if you go no one may follow, that path is for your steps alone. Ripple in still water, when there is no pebble tossed, nor wind to blow.

To seek the sacred river Alph, to walk the caves of ice, to break my fast on honey dew and drink the milk of paradise... I had heard the whispered tales of immortality, the deepest mystery, from an ancient book I took a clue.

This allows 2 player games of Here I Stand. It is not the same experience as the real game, but it is still a lot of fun. It is basically a religious conflict where each side can also make proxy invasions against the other using the non-player sides. Interesting and has some of the mechanics of Twilight Struggle - you sometimes have to play bad cards against yourself. Recommended.

Not as much fun as the six player original, but a good introduction to the period and an interesting game in its own right.

Very interesting variant that works better than you would think. Plays much faster than the "real" game too.

A great way to learn the ins and outs of the religious struggle in Here I Stand, the most complex part of the game. It's not just a primer though, but a fun way to get HIS to the table without waiting for a six player opportunity.

It works as a 2 player game, even though it will mainly consist of reformation and counter-reformation, so there will be lots of dice rolled instead of exciting board developments and army movements.

Here I Stand is one of my favorites and this deck opens the possibility of more games. It's not as deep as the original, but there is still plenty of game here. The Diplomacy Deck turns the Catholic/Protestant competition into a tense battle of swinging fortunes.

Played this twice. It's a good game, much more focused on the Protestant Reformation and the Counter-reformation. Not as good as a six-player game but certainly fun and perhaps a decent way to introduce somebody to the game.

A compelling two-player variant of the main game. The diplomacy deck does a great job of abstracting out the other players without allowing game-y exploits. In many ways, this is easier than playing one of the religious powers in the base game, as it eliminates a lot of downtime that can come from huge battles that you aren't involved in, particularly for the Protestants. Don't get me wrong, this is not as good as the base game, but the diplomacy deck does a good job of simulating the vagaries of fate and whims of other players and forcing you to react to them. When you're in a pinch, you can use this to get your Here I Stand fix.
