The market mechanic, although a bit different, is just enough to put a twist on the original. All in all, it's just Power Grid with a twist. Good as always.

I have the handmade prototype, signed by the Man with Green Hair hisself.

I'll still buy a copy, as this version is a prototype of the Korea map only.

I have played both maps, and the Korea map is excellent in it's decision tree complexity, while the China map if amazingly tight and stressful and so very difficult. Two of FF's best ever.

I think that this is the best of the expansion maps as the rules are significant enough in a rewarding way to really justify the purchase.

China: Whoa. This is a tougher map. The forced order of factories really makes for some tough decisions. You really are faced with the granular upgrades. Between the tight map and the inefficient factories, this is a beaut!

Free Tibet!

Korea: I love the dual markets. Because you can only buy from one of the two markets a turn, this makes for a great expansion for 5 or 6 players as it won't leave a player deep in the lurch.

The planned economy of China produces power plants in numerical sequence, purchased plants are not replaced. This makes competition for power plants very fierce. The resource replenishment rate is also very low. Players have had lots of money without power plants and resources they could purchase. A few times, the cities have gone dark for lack of sufficient fuel. In the Korea expansion, having two markets (North Korea & south Korea) could be brutal from midgame on since nuclear fuel can be obtained only from S Korea. Players are often forced into choosing between powering a nuclear plant or non-nuclear plants.

I am looking forward to see how the rules change the demand for power plants and resources in this game.

Edit: Koreas are great! I love how the map changes the strategic thought just a little bit without having to learn a whole new rules set.

9.4.11 China is a very entertaining map! The resources start off crazy high and it's fun trying to actually get a profit going. The structured first half of the game is very fun and I love having less plants then people. Three out of the four ended up tying with only a few bucks between the winners and the losers.

The rules changes with Power Grid: China cause dramatic changes in the early dynamic of the game, and to a certain degree lessen the value of being in last place. It is *not* "just a new map". It is a much uglier and unfriendlier economic system. (As I was telling one group just how ugly the economy was going to get, someone commented "I've never seen you so happy". :-) ) There are now 8 official maps for Power Grid, and China is the only one yet that I strongly prefer over the others. (Of course, this may change once I've played it more than 4 times.)

(And yes, the map itself is clumpy and unfriendly, (especially if you play with 4 people and leave out the two easiest regions!) -- I suspect that playing the China map with the US/Germany rules would also be an unforgiving game, though to a lesser degree.)

I have only played on the Korea map once, and I don't recall the game as being especially interesting. The split-market was a clever mechanic but didn't seem to affect our game all that much.

Wow, this is different! Both sides of this map really change the gameplay in a challenging way. Thumbs up!

This is my favorite Funkenschlag expansion so far. I like both the Korea map with the 2 markets and the China map which is really "tight". Both maps give more possibilities for an already great game. Best expansion map sofar.

Oh, and by the way: my rating is for the game & gameplay only. I would rate it a 10 on political grounds for NOT including occupied Tibet. I will delete this comment as soon as those 2 brainwashed losers drop their "1" shill ratings.

NL: 2 uitbreidingskaarten voor Funkenschlag. Erg goed.
