12/19/08 - I like this expansion, it definitely picks up the pace of the game, puts more activity into everything, less waiting, so I like ;-)

1/7/09 - Didn't play, but wanted to move it up to a 9, I really like this expansion!

I'm not the biggest fan of the original game. My wife is though, and this expansion really improves the game in my opinion. Faster action and more smooth gameplay!

A simple but fun alternative to the cards, the dice speed up the game a fair bit and also change the gameplay slightly, as routes are a lot easier to claim. Can definitely see the controversy around this expansion, however it's worked for me.

Cuts out the color train car cards and half of the game play time, and replaces it with special dice which still keeps the spirit of the regular games.

Bonus that the Dice Expansion works with all TTR sets.

I don't know what to think about this expansion. The dice game is quick and fun, but it doesn't feel like TtR. The game is a little too big considering how small it feels.

A very nice variant to Ticket to Ride. Changes the feel of the game as trains are placed each turn by all the players, meaning you are more likely to have a section you need covered up.

The dice don't make the game have any more of a random element than the card draw does in the base game, if anything you have a bit more control, and tougher decisions.

Renouvelle bien le jeu (en le transformant par la même occasion). Personnellement, je préfère ce système de dés à celui des cartes qu'on passe bien trop de temps à manipuler pendant chaque partie.

It feels like it's too easy to roll enough to claim almost any link you want each turn. Maybe we were just lucky. It didn't break the game, though, it just made me wonder if you could get rid of the dice and cards altogether and just take turns claiming links or drawing tickets.

I rather like this to change the game up a bit. YES it makes the game faster and that's cool sometimes. I certainly loved it with the Nordic Countries rule set as I hated looking for the Loco cards...now the "Wilds" come up on dice and it's easier to mitigate that annoying rule. Cup is cool but doesn't fit into the TTR box and just is not used ever. SIGH. DoW could have left the cup out in my opinion and dropped the price a few more dollars.

Ok, I got this one purely because I'm a completist and have expansionitis. That being said, this is actually a good expansion. Although it's not in the category of "would not play the base game without it".

What is does do is eliminate the endless turns of picking cards. Each and every turn the players have a chance to complete routes. Because of this it changes the way you lay out routes. You can no longer wait on claiming a route because your opponent doesn't have enough cards.

Overall this is a plus. It changes the game but not in a bad way. It also makes the game much faster, about 30 minutes for a 2 player game. Scores are slightly higher by about 20%. The scoring is higher mainly due to the fact that you are not forced to keep a certain number of destination tickets when you draw. So no more "bad" tickets.

A nice alternative to the annoying luck of the card pool. I always *hate* drawing card after card, turn after turn, hoping to get what I need. This no longer happens in the Dicing version! Occasionally you get stuck with extra chits, maybe - don't forget to discard these at the end of your turn to make room for new ones next turn.

Surprisingly, the game isn't really shorter.

It's certainly a completely different game with these dice. Since hoarding cards is the central strategy to TTR, you end up playing this one opportunistically.

We played on the europe board where the stations allow for flexibility, so it wasn't very cutthroat. I'd actually like to try these on the U.S. board, where you could really screw with other players.

This is a fun addition that allows you to change the dynamics of the game a bit by rolling for cards, and compressing the acquiring track/laying track procedure into one action. We enjoy this as a break from the standard game - it plays quicker and tends to be a lot more cut-throat.

I really have a hard time determining where to place this expansion as far as a rating goes. For starters, I don't generally care of dice games. This means that the game will see limited play despite the fact that I do like the game. It makes for an interesting experience and (at least on Europe and the original map) gives the game a completely different feel. This both good and bad as the game must then compete for table time against some base games that are pretty good on their own rights. This leads me to give it an honest 6.5 rating when what I really want to do is give it a straight 7. [05/07/2009]

May upgrade this rating with more plays. I prefer the cards, and since it's the same game one or the other, I have to rate this one as "play sporadically if in the right mood."

Oh, and it's a shame that the dice cup doesn't fit in the ttr gamebox.

A nice twist on a solid game. Plays faster than the TTR base games because you don't have to collect all of the appropriate colored cards... you just roll for single or double track pieces. This means that you can build pretty much any route at any time, which makes this version more suited for blocking and scooping up critical routes early. The quality of the dice is pretty poor... just ink on wood, which will wear off with semi-regular use like the Memoir'44 and Battlelore dice. Engraved dice would have been a better choice.

This expansion dramatically changes the game. The biggest potential benefit I can see would be from a drastically reduced game time. I didn't experience this in our play, but perhaps that was due to unfamiliarity with the board, which led to a lot of thinking in what route to claim.

I can see how this would be really cutthroat in the right circumstances (especially on the US board), and I'd like to try it a couple more times before writing it off.

It does feel like it's pretty easy to get whatever you need. Others have remarked that they miss picking up the cards, but I don't see how this is any different. There is a luck element that you can mitigate with the wilds (in this case the track chits), but if you roll (or in the case of cards, draw) well, you'll do well.
