Aptly named; the large hexes work well for these close-range battles in the bocage of Normandy. "Barkmann's Corner" is one of the best ASL scenarios you'll find... both sides are in panic mode right from the start!

ASL so excellent anyway but the larger hexes do add something (ease of stacking for a start) and the bocage is an interesting landscape to fight over.

DASL is a great experience. The only thing preventing this module from a 10 is that the scenarios are not as interesting as those in Streets of Fire.

An interesting quirk is that this module has a set of useful counters that is not available in any other module.

A little bit of a head-game getting used to the scale (hexes per board), but the scenarios are fun.

The AFV cards included in the DASL modules were a cool idea. Luckily, I picked up the british set while AH was still around.

Again, think of it as part of the tool kit. The scenarios are not that great, but the boards are awesome! The goal of this scenario was to bring the tight, close combat of the hedgerows into the battlefield. It didn't, orginally, because the bocage and wall advantage rules made it VERY difficult to figure these games out. The ASLRB 2.0's clearification of WA makes all of these playable, and the excitement of swarmming troops in a confusing labrynth of hedgerows, with ambushes waiting around any corner revitializes these scenarios! And don't miss some of the scenarios using these boards that appeared in the General, and the Annual!

It's ASL. But I give the rating solely because I loved playing on the over sized hexes...even if we never used the miniatures that were planned (did they ever exist?).

Not a patch on the first deluxe ASL module. The scenarios feel dated, but at least the boards you get are designed for bocage fighting.

Generally loved the Deluxe modules for the ease of play afforded by the larger hexes. In theory the short ranges of engagement offered up by hedgerow fighting should make this the ideal Deluxe module, but hedgerows were always a headache in ASL so despite the Deluxe format and my own interest in the subject, this module never really got traction with me.

If you are an ASL player and you can find one of these, pick it up for the AFV cards alone. They are worth it. I found the big hexed board pointless. No longer own ASL cause of lack of players.

DASL is certainly the weakest of all ASL products (not taking third party stuff into account) - the benefit you gain from large hexes are kick off balance by the disadvantage to either have a HUGE table or keep to comparably small scenarios. Having said that Streets of fire is the better one of the two DASL modules as city fight often have a high conuter density (stacks per house level!), whereas scenarios in bocage tend not to have this problem. This is why I rate Hedgerow Hell with a meager "5" only - it is hardly worth the investment (despite being an ASL product). Looking at its low "ebay value" the ASL community seems to agree with my opinion here

The only reason I like it is that it works great for creating Memoir 44 scenarios and has new terrain. Perfect hex size for SL stuff. If I were to play SL, I'd want all my hexes this size to make chit management easy.
