Nice alternative for 2 or 3 Grognard WIF players looking for some new "scenario" instead of WIF Global War (which should in my opinion be played by 5 players).
The game may start a little bit boring as a building contest if played by cautious Axis players. The setup is a little bit strange - the US Forces are restricted to the US and have to be rushed forward after getting their Central American Backyard (including Panama) under control in a preliminary political phase. A more "realistic" setup would give the US some positions in Central America for granted, already garrisonable with US Forces.

An alternate historical blast. Let the Axis get a taste of what it would have been like to come over here... their navies would have been sunk and any ground assault pretty much unattainable. The United States industrial out put is endless. See Patton on defense? LOL!

If I recall, got the game for the map and the Heavy Unit upgrades it came with. Have never played the Axis invasion of the USA, though.

This is a really nifty scenario and we've played it twice now. Great excuse to break out the (relatively) huge Americas map.

More chrome to World In Flames. If you like WiF you should like this "What If" game. Although a stand alone game this can be linked to WiF, and some of WiF's counters can be used. It's fun to see which South and Central American countries ally themselves with. Some don't have a choice, a major power will declare war on them.

Unlike most of the "in flames" items, this is actually a stand-alone game. You can use the components (counters and maps of North and South America) to play out a fantasy scenario where the Axis, having conquered the Soviet Union, China, and the non-Canadian elements of the British Empire, are now launching an attack on the Western Hemisphere. There is a political system, where the US, Commonwealth, Free France, and the Axis powers joust to influence countries like Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Chile to join their side. The Axis tries to conquer the US before the US can discover the H-Bomb. A pure fantasy that Philip K. Dick might have enjoyed, but fun.

You can also use many of these components (the maps if you have room, and some of the heavy corps, planes, and ships) in World in Flames games, and many do.

A decent game for World in Flames fans who want something different, or something closer to home (for those who live in the Americas). Can't see it being a worthwhile purchase otherwise.

This is a little over the top, even for me. The best piece in the game is the SS Amerika unit, based in the city of (politically charged content aimed at creating rancor edited out here).

While the subject matter of this game sounds interesting the scenario seems to end up somewhat boring to play. Our first run out of the game saw the Japanese facing almost no naval defence on the US west coast while the entire allied fleet faced off against the Germans and Italians.

A long drawn out campaign in South America really went nowhere fast and the attempts by the Axis to get into North America were very costly and didn't realy get anywhere either.

We stoped playing with a game year to go but with a certain allied victory in sight from the development of the H bomb.

A nice idea, lots of interesting units that can be added to WiF but as a game on its own...

basic problem - a good setup requires playing the game, and playing the game takes 20-40 hours. Do I really want to invest 20-40 hours just to find out my setup was bad?

Mix of scales for me don't work. Army level SS units being blown away by the Panamanian army? Map scale too small, it feels like the designer made it as a big compromise or quick cash grab. It sure isn't fun moving units maybe a hex at a time due to the scale. Then there is the WW1 feel of the combat situation. I could rant on and on on the willy nilly meshing of scales of units too. One moment you are moving a counter that is a couple of ships and going through an excruciating painful turn sequence then you are moving an army level unit one hex.

The scenario starts too early as you may have to play scale years to get an Axis foothold before they can properly invade, and by then the the H bomb will have been created making it all for nothing.

The designers just don't know what where they should draw the line on what to abstract or what command level a player should be at. The literal throw in the kitchen sink approach.

Slow and painful sums this system up. We renamed it Rules in Flames.

All such a shame as the scenario idea sounds so fun.

As far as I can tell the game is broken. Being a huge World in Flames fan, I really really wanted to like this since it seems like the perfect 2 player WiF type game. Problem is that after repeated playings on both sides it seems like the Axis are doomed to never be able to take Panama if the Allied player defends it to the hilt (which they should). After a mass addition of "house rules" it didn't get much better. There is apparently a very good reason why nobody has tried to invade the Americas in the modern era.
