I would love to play this with my brother. He loved the original long ago, but word on the streets is that the new flimsy board detracts greatly. How come I saw this selling for $14? At that it should come with a solid board and the comic. Or at least let me download it and print it for that price.
Quite a good game. Like Risk without the violence, but heavy on the diplomacy. A bit complicated and takes a while to play....when I get together with my brothers and my dad at holidays we can usually only play the 4 turn verson.
If this game were playable with friends over the internet it might be more workable.
I think I like it because the progression is linear. Your position changes in a linear fashion, and each turn you have a different set of choices to make, unlike Puerto Rico where every turn you are choosing one of the same five or six roles.
Would like to try this game. KUDOS! to the game company, Rio Grande for making an expasion available for free online to print and play!!! UPDATE- I got to play this last night, i kind of liked it. I won! I had no plan, it was just a matter of doing what made sense each turn. It felt like I was just riding a wave surfing, I was in a sweet spot the whole time. It was not a slaughter, but I had 25pts, followed by 22, 22, and 18. I did really like that I went second though. I benefitted from player 1, and was set up to benefit from 3 and 4's moves.
Great game. Can rack your brain a little while learning it. If you teach someone, please simply READ the sentence in the rules, that explains exactly what a set it. Of course first you have to mention the four different characteristics, but then you should read the sentence word for word. Its an excellent clear and concise definition of a Set.
