I really wish there was not a "Colored" background on this. The feint tan color is almost invisible when printed but still I know it took up ink. Plain white with the brown scrolls would have been a better option.
I strongly agree as well. However, since (for now) I've just printed the instructions on a black-n-white laser printer, it's not that big a deal.
In this thread for the game System Vector, someone is praising the job the designer did on the rules: he made it so you can "turn off" the background image in the "PDF" file... the best of both worlds!
here's the comment:

I was about to print out the [system vector] rulebook and was lamenting the fact that [it] included such a detailed background image. While nice looking I was thinking how bad it was going to suck to print that all out. Ink doesn't grow on trees you know...
But then I noticed the little tab below bookmarks on the side. "Hold on!" I thought to myself.
Clicking it I discovered that you can turn the different layers, including the background image, off and on at will! I'd never seen this in a PDF and I think it's fantastic ...
Can someone tell me how to print this file so that it's readable? 8 pages shrunk to one 8.5x11 sheet is useless to me.
I can't seem to print a larger version from the pdf file. I've tried copying the image to an image processing program but when I increase the size it's a blurry mess.
Becca, it's published as letter sized multipage PDF. Check both the PDF viewer print settings as well as those for your printer. You must have a setting that tells it to print N-up on the page...

That's not what I'm seeing. Acrobat shows it as a 1-page file. When I have the view set at 1 page, I see all 8 pages crammed in there & that's what I get when I print. I checked all my settings and I don't see anything amiss.
But it's all good, because I'm able to print the other file (with the background) and that worked okay.
Edit: Here's a link to a screenshot showing that it's really a single-page file.
Oh, I think someone posted a pocket rulebook (on a different file page than this one) that you're looking at. The no-background one above is 6 pages and should be ok.

OK, you're right. I must've downloaded the compact version somewhere else. I'm glad I'm not really going blind!
