Maria Player Aid.doc (36 KB) (Log in or Register to download.)
This is a very rough draft of a player aid. I find the aid that comes with the game does not contain enough information.

Please give feedback so that I can improve this player aid. Thanks!

Here's my feedback

- providing it as a PDF instead of Word doc is nicer because not everyone has Word. My feedback is based on looking at it in OpenOffice.

- France and Prussia aren't allies, really. I think calling them allies would mislead exactly the kind of person who needs a player aid.

- The formatting looks weird. That may just be an OpenOffice issue but it means I wouldn't print it out and distribute it to people.

- A good convention when using acronyms is to spell it out completely the first time and then put the acronym in parentheses immediately after it. i.e. "reveal top Tactical Card (TC)". It makes it clearer in Politics #3 what TC means.

- The movement section doesn't mention Forced Marches

- There is no mention of the costs to bring back Supply Trains

- It doesn't fit on a single page (double sided is fine)

Looks like a good start. I agree that the provided cards are a bit terse. (You should see the "play aids" for King of Siam, those are downright cryptic! Histogame likes their tiny play aids.)

Thanks for the feedback:

1. I don't have the ability to make PDF files....sorry, old Gateway computer. All I have is reader which allows me to read PDFs.

2. The allied section is copied from the rule book (page 2, section 2 under The Players). I understand what you are saying though.

3. In terms of format...on my computer it comes up as a single page landscape document with two collums. I was thinking it that a person could print it, cut it in half and lamintate it.

4. I did that for Major Powers... will correct Tactical Card. Thanks.

5. Forced March - yes I agree. Just wanted to make sure it all stayed on one page. I will add.

6. Supply Trains - again concerned it would not fit, I will try to fit it and reduce the font size if necessary.

7. It fits on one page when I look at it...might be a MS Word issue.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I have only made one player aid before this one.

There are free PDF creation tools like http://www.cutepdf.com/products/cutepdf/writer.asp that hook into Word and let you "print" to a PDF.

I've only played the game once, but after reading the FAQ it seems there's an error in Politics phase pt 7. After both political cards have been taken by powers with higher influence remaining powers can't conserve they're TC's but have to take them back into they're hand.

Martti is correct: This is a mistake in this Player Aid.

Point 7 in the aid should be written as:

This process continues with the Power who has the 2nd highest sum and so on. Once both political cards have been selected the remaining powers must take back all their TCs from the display back to their hands.

------------------------------------------------

France, Prussia, Bavaria and Saxony ARE allies. (If they weren't Prussia could attack France, and could conquer French conquests in Austria. That would be misleading!) -- However, France and Prussia are not cooperating. Maybe adding the list of cooperating powers to the aid might be a good idea.
