Here is the designer blog for the creation of this variant for those of you who are interested:

May 21,2010 - Well, I have a working version for a solo Attika variant. The problem is that I have won it every time that I have played it (7 ties so far). I keep trying to come up with ways of making it more difficult. I have a method, but unfortunately it makes the game impossible unless a certain arrangement comes up in the set-up. I might make this mandatory part of the setup. Still working on it.

----

June 02,2010 - Have run out of time to test Attika solo variant. Not finished but will have to wait for my impending move in the next two weeks.

----

June 8, 2010 - played Attika variant a few more times in past week. I think it works just fine. Have lost a few times. I think I will be adding a scoring system that would work a little like the achievement thingies that you see on X-box or games for windows. It seems like it might add to the re-playability of the game.

----

June 13, 2010 - no the list is not dead. I just have to put it on hold this week as I am moving. To bad my copy of Attika is all packed up. I did find a big list of solo variants with tonnes of entries. All though it does look like a lot of them haven't actually been tried. I am trying the one for battlelore on Vassal this week though.

June 20, 2010 - OK, should be able to get back into playing my variant again. But now the variant is competing with my playtesting of my first print and play boardgame. But no matter. The variant is coming. I do wonder if anyone is reading this. (oh well, I am having fun. That is all that matters.)

June 26, 2010 - Scoring system is done. Just have to figure out what a reasonable score is and then write the rules and post. Will plan to play it about 10 - 12 times to determine the score. (I have played it enough times at this point to know a good game verses a bad game and will adjust the score accordingly.

July 05, 2010 - Still completing the solo variant. Got side tracked with another project (a contest to design a board game). That project is almost done, so I will get back to playtesting!

July 11, 2010 - OK, the variant is done! 40 games and have only had 3 master victories. Should have this variant posted within the week. I am ready for my next project. Also having fun with vassal at work. Maybe some solo variants there perhaps. ( I own the place and am the boss, so no boss to tell me to stop goofing off.)
