Everyone has degrees of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and I imagine gamers more so than most. Classic examples from movies and TV are "As Good As It Gets", and "Monk". What I am looking for here are games that have something that bother you in just an OCD way. Not bad games, or bad rules, or typos, or misprints. Just something that doesn't affect play whatsoever, but bugs you just the same.

Note that OCD is a very serious disturbance that causes pain to the affected person and his family. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessive-compulsive_disorder

I know the 'shifting-hex' games have been beaten to death, but I had to mention this game among other Cheapass titles...

It's an alomst constant battle to keep the house square...
I love the game, and I appreciate the Cheapass manifesto, and I'm aware of several 'solutions' to the shifting board problem, but most of them seem to involve permanently altering the board in some way. It's important that everything go back in the same box the way it came out.

Oh and the little magazine strips the cards are wrapped in? I did eventually give up on trying to get them back on...

I didn't see this mentioned yet...does anyone else have trouble throwing away the advertisements that get printed on "extra" cards? I never realized I had this problem until I accidentally shuffled the advertisement that came with Bohnanza into the deck. When my friend drew it, the conversation went like this:

Him: "Hey, I can't read this. It's in German. What does it do?"
OCD: "Oh, oops, nothing. I'll just put it back in the box."
Him: "What do you mean nothing? Why is it in the game?"
OCD: "It's just an advertisement. Give it here."
Him: "An advertisement?" (peers at card) "For Bohnanza."
OCD:"Yeah...."
Him: "Written in German."
OCD: "um....yeah..."
Him: "Do you even speak German?"
OCD: "um...no...."
Him: "So...you're keeping a card that's nothing more than an advertisement, written in a language you don't speak, for a game you already own." (pauses for effect then flicks the card into the trash)

...needless to say, the willpower it took to resist fishing the card out of the trash pretty much cost me the game.

I'm suprised this one hasn't been mentioned yet, since the official tournament rules for the USCF and FIDE actually cover adjusting each other's pieces. It's as if chess players are EXPECTED to have OCD!

The bland monocolored "I'm a noob, please beat me up in a back alley" Basic D&D and D&D Miniatures dice go into the cheap crappy vinyl Made-in-China TSR Dragon Dice bag. The semi-cool but still ugly mottled D&D Player's Accessory dice go into another crappy vinyl TSR bag, but of a different color.

Piece of **** Made-in-China WizKids dice (not Pirates) go into ignominious snack-sized ziplock bags along with the measuring tape. Some dice find themselves in a musty SJG standard-sized box.

The ancient now-rounded-edged platonic solids circa D&D White Boxed set go into another bag, accompanied by stray dice left over at game rooms and the occasional heretical d10 die. Several well-worn green eight-sided dice older than most users on MySpace (and somehow I got six of at once) have new life in a World of Warcraft box.

The hand-picked clear plastic with razor-sharp edges, beautiful clear Paranoia dice, and Call of Cthulhu boxed set dice go into another dice bag. The also hand-picked clear dice and marvellously swirled unliked the mottled black crappy D&D Player's Accessory dice stay in their difficult-to-open plastic containers, which I never open anyway for fear of losing them. Safe and secure in some long-lost container, I have no idea where they are.

Never got around to the Corona dice bag.

You wanted OCD... You got it! This has annoyed me for close to 30 years. Why couldnt opposing force tank silhouettes face each other? In our group, depending on direction and who is winning at the time, one side is usually accused of unceramoneously exiting the battlefield. Its an old joke that never gets any bettershake

This game is the first one I thought of. I'm usually pretty OK when it comes to managing game pieces, but this is the first instance of NEEDING to have the pieces seperated into little bags so that you can find what you need to find when you need to find it. And it's not even like you can get away with just a few bags. I think my copy has 12 bags with a list that carefully states exactly where all the pieces are.
And there's the fact that the life marker arrow can scuff up the life marker, that's just annoying. Grr. I know that's already been stated as something that annoys people, but I thought I'd reiterate it.

I'm quite surprised that this one didn't show up already.
I was looking at the territory tiles during a game and noticed that they were part of what looked like a bigger map or something.
As soon as the game ended (my side lost it, obviously, as I coudn't think of anything else than that huge map) I took all the tiles and started arranging them; much to my horror, they all came from the same part of a map, no bigger than three-four tiles put together, cut in different ways. I'm still shocked.

Well I had to "pipe up" on this list. I actually do have OCD. I was diagnosed in 1997. Playing board games with any organization needed can be a nightmare but I try to stick to games where I am active and/or thinking so I don't get distracted. There were a lot of things on this list that are already true for me. Duel of Ages, however, I added as an example of "organization". I am constantly keeping the platters and keys in order. Same is true for Carcassone, Caylus, and pretty much tile/card laying game. I love them, don't get me wrong, but they definitely set off some triggers in my head.

Many years ago, one of my OCD friends who also plays Titan showed me a delightful bit of OCD for storing the game, since it (like most of the old Avalon Hill games) had no plastic inserts...

After the game is over, you _neatly_ restack all the creatures into their original stacks, then, stack by stack, carefully build a larger stack inside your sandwich baggie until you can't fit any more.

Then you roll the baggie around the stack; it looks like a square cardboard sausage wrapped in plastic wrap, and those are what get put into the box.

OCD, yes. Makes setup easy next time, definitely.

Someone once played a game of Titan with my copy and just threw all the tiles back into the box, not even into the baggies. grrr....must fix....

I don't even own this game, but I tried it out at my local game store and was horrified by the box. Not only is the box not square or rectangular in shape (which is miserable when it comes to organising my game shelf) the top doesn't perfectly fit the base. When closed there is about a 3 mm gap between the inside of the top and outside of the base. And, to top it all off the box is made out of a lighter yet thicker than normal cardboard.

It shouldn't bother me, but i can't play this game again without thinking about it.

Thankfully as I was leaving the shop I glanced at the regular Blokus box, and though I didn't check (I had already embarrassed myself enough making a comment about the box) it appeared to be constructed out of the normal stock and of course in a square box.

I can't believe this one wasn't mentioned yet...
Does it bug anyone else when people do not arrange the tiles they've won in the way that they are listed on the scoring board? They must neatly be placed in rows:
*God Tiles
*Pharaohs
*Flood tiles followed by Nile Tiles
*Civilization Tiles
*Gold Tiles
*Monuments - these are the only ones that can have 'piles', and then it is only to show that you have 2-5 of the same. It bugs me if monuments are all lined up and they do not have the same monuments together.
