Current Preorders: 44 (+16)

First announced: December 2011

Current Status: Not There Yet

Preorder Price (List Price): $44 ($55)

Number of Players: 2

Comments: This is coming out in issue #8 of the UGG house mag, Command & Strategy.

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-378-command-strategy-issue-8-forte...

Game Information: Fortress Sevastopol is a simulation of the German assault on the Crimean Peninsula. The Germans had to advance to Sevastopol as quickly as possible. Eventually the mighty fortress will have to surrender before the snow falls, which would be a great pleasure for the "Führer". If not, you will have to wait until spring to receive more reserves and finally capture Sevastopol before the game ends.

If you play the Russian side: stay cool! Try to avoid losses in the initial onslaught. Collect units and reserves in the winter months for an eventual counterstrike at the German weak points. If this is unsuccessful, go for entrenchments and fight for every meter in Sevastopol til the end.

Fortress Sevastopol uses an easy to learn area movement and combat system. A similar system was already used in games like Breakout Normandy, Monty's Gamble - Market Garden, and Storm Over Arhhem. Fortress Sevastopol is Issue #8 in UBB's Command & Strategy magazine series.

Ha! The error is on GMTs part here, because that part is cut and paste from their website.

I'll let them know!

This map (~1512) seems to be pretty close:

But the XV century map from Droysens Allgemeiner Historischer Handatlas, is also very close:

My guess was because Saxony is whole. At the detail of the game map I figured there would be both Electoral and Ducal Saxony if it was early 16th century. That 15th century map does look pretty close. Thanks for looking into this for me!

Comments: GMT/OSG partnership. Although I've used a prior OSG printing for this item, this is a new edition. Changes from prior editions are laid out in the GMT web page.

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-364-highway-to-the-kremlin-new-ed....

Game Information: The time is: 0130 hrs., 23 June 1812

Napoleon rode upstream from Kovno to select a crossing place over the Niemen River. Removing his familiar colonel's coat he put on the jacket and black-silk kalpak of a Polish lancer. His companions who all advised against this invasion, Berthier, Davout, Caulaincourt, and the engineer Haxo-did the same. The Emperor was in a pensive, somber mood. Galloping back to headquarters, a startled hare got under his horse, causing him to fall.

This was an inauspicious portent and coupled with his associates' misgivings would have stopped a Roman general in his tracks. Agents brought news placing Bagration near Volkovisk and Barclay between Lida and Keidany, with reserves near Svenciany. From of Ney's Third Corps headquarters at Marianpole, came the report of a Jewish merchant who had just returned from Lithuania: the Russians were pulling their forces back, leaving a few Cossacks to keep an eye on the French. Alexander's generals were left guessing at just how great were the forces Napoleon had brought to their borders. The highest estimates, those of Barclay de Tolly and Phull, credited Napoleon with having close to 250,000 men. In reality, the Grande Armée was twice as massive, totalling 437,500 plus two corps in reserve.*

Number of Players: 2

Comments: OSG/GMT Partnership

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-381-the-end-of-empire-1814.aspx

Game Information: The End of Empire, 1814 is one of the three new games now on P500 from OSG's THE LIBRARY OF NAPOLEONIC BATTLES series. Details on the series are below, as all the games share a common rules set and game system.

The End of Empire, 1814 includes the following battles:

Brienne (Jan 28-29)
La Rothière (Jan 30 - Feb 1)
Champaubert (Feb 9-10)
Montmirail (Feb 11-12)
Vauchamps (Feb 13-14)

THE LIBRARY OF NAPOLEONIC BATTLES is a two-player simulation of 70 battles at the Grand Tactical level. The series is planned to cover all the major battles of the Napoleonic Wars, from Napoleon's first army command in Italy, 1796, to his final defeat at Waterloo 19 years later.

The French Player must exploit the strengths of the constantly evolving French army against a host of Coalition Forces, using a tried and tested game system based on the classic Napoleon's Last Battles. The optional card rules allow for uncertainty as to both side's exact Order of Battle, and allows forces that were actually within range to participate unexpectedly. The uncertainty here allows for a more real-world situation, since the actual commanders never knew what forces they were facing, sometimes even after the battle was over.

Is it really? BGG lists it as 5 hours, which is quite a step up. I was hoping for something closer to 3 hours (mainly due to logistical issues).

Some of the battles listed above are actually small scenarios that cover a small slice of the big battle. If I recall correctly, there are some really small ones that you can probably do in 1-2 hours. For the big battle, I'd guess it will take at least 6-8 hours. I think we left it set up over multiple sessions.

The game also has different difficulty levels which gradually introduce rules for command & control etc. So play times might also depend on whether you're using the basic or advanced rules. Even the advanced rules are quite simple, as I recall. I agree that this is probably a good step up from Fading Glory, and probably not by that much in terms of complexity.

Even though the information is copied right off the official GMT cover art, the name of the Saxon town of Liebertwolkwitz is spelled wrong!

It always was and still is spelled LIEBERTWOLKWITZ!!!
Please, all of you Americans, its not by English pronoucing of a word written as "Lei...", its the German pronoucing of it!!!
The English "ee" pronouncing is written as a "Lie..." in German!!! devil

Please !!!

Fury takes the bones of Manoeuvre and builds a game that has more of everything you like in the original. More and varied types of movement such as flight and teleportation, more combats in a turn each with their own deadly styles, and devastating spells that can turn the tides of war in your favor. Game Information: Thunder Alley is a stock car racing game for 2-7 players with the feel and flexibility of a card-driven simulation. Players controls not one car, but a team of 3-6 cars. Comments: Another solid month's growth, and a sure bet to be in the 300 club next month.

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-371-cuba-libre.aspx

Game Information: In December 1956, paroled rebel Fidel Castro returned to Cuba to launch his revolution with virtually no political base and—after a disastrous initial encounter with government forces—a total of just 12 men. Two years later, through masterful propaganda and factional maneuver, Castro, his brother Raúl, and iconic revolutionary Che Guevara had united disparate guerrillas and exploited Cubans’ deep opposition to their dictator Fulgencio Batista y Zaldívar. Castro’s takeover of the country became a model for Leftist insurgency.

Castro’s Insurgency
Following up on GMT Games’ Andean Abyss, the COIN Series next volume, Cuba Libre, takes 1 to 4 players into the Cuban Revolution. Castro’s Marxist “26 July Movement” must expand from its bases in the Sierra Maestra mountains to fight its way to Havana. Meanwhile, anti-communist student groups, urban guerrillas, and ex-patriots try to de-stabilize the Batista regime from inside and out, while trying not to pave the way for a new dictatorship under Castro. Batista’s Government must maintain steam to counter the twin insurgency, while managing two benefactors: its fragile US Alliance and its corrupting Syndicate skim. And in the midst of the turmoil, Meyer Lansky and his Syndicate bosses will jockey to keep their Cuban gangster paradise alive.

Quick update: Early playtesting appears to be going well -- players enjoying it and quickly starting new games when theirs is completed, but we are also discovering what works well and, especially important, what works less well!

A just concluded email game saw the Govt get wracked by sabotage (denying it resources to fight) but somehow convincing one of the rebel factions to give it some money, which the Government then used to fuel an armored-car assault to snatch a close, 11th-hour win.

Here's a sample comment from the Syndicate player in that game (who by the way did not win) ...

Quote:
As the Syndicate, I enjoyed the game. I don't want to say too much else because I only played the game twice. I find myself thinking a lot about the turns and the interactions, which is pretty amazing for such a simple ruleset.

The more I think about this the more I think, in addition to being a good game and a good learning experience it is going to land at a time when Cuba is really being discussed and will be on a bigger radar than just the gaming community.

Certainly Raul's anti-corruption campaign and attempts at not-quite-reform of the Cuban economy have been much in the US press lately.

Current Preorders: 352 (+352) NEW!

First announced: January 2012

Current Status: Not There Yet

Preorder Price (List Price): $45 ($65)

Number of Players: 1

Comments: The great GMT/VPG partnership that brought us No Retreat continues to pay dividends with a deluxe edition of some of the most popular States of Siege titles.
A huge thumbsup from me.

Game Link: https://www.gmtgames.com/p-382-revolt-and-revolution.aspx

Game Information: Revolt and Revolution is the newest offering from our strategic partnership with Victory Point Games, and the first game we are producing from their immensely popular States of Siege series. The idea for this and future volumes is to thematically take two existing titles from VPG's States of Siege line and add a third as-yet-unpublished game to the pack to create a GMT boxed set using larger counters, full sized cards, and mounted maps, all utilizing the talents of GMT's art and production team.

The first game in the pack is by series creator Darin Leviloff. Soviet Dawn: The Russian Civil War 1918 - 1921 puts you in the position of defending the Bolshevik Revolution from the array of 'White' forces bent on its destruction. Can you deal with the great crises of that time and defend the revolution? Will you withdraw from the Great War (WWI) or exercise the Bukharin Option and fight on? Can you execute the Czar in time, or will the 'Whites' rescue him? Will you fortify Petrograd or press your offensives home? How will you deal with internal and external dissent? These are just some of the challenges to meet as you decide the fate of Communism in the 20th century. Revolt and Revolution will include both the base game Soviet Dawn and its expansion pack.

The second game in the tri-pack is from series developer John Welch. Levée en Masse: The Wars of the French Revolution 1789 - 1802 puts you in the position of defending the Republican Revolution from forces both within and outside of France, during the tumultuous years of the French. Can you suppress the forces of Monarchy and Despotism to maintain the Republican spirit in France? Can you export the revolution by liberating neighboring states and creating sister Republics? Will you be able to keep order in Paris as it suffers from riot after riot? Can you rally your armies to defeat those of rival European states like Britain, Prussia and Austria? These are just a few of the obstacles you must overcome to end Monarchy and bring forth the era of Republican government that will transform Europe in the 19th century. Revolt and Revolution will include both the base game Levée en Masse and its expansion pack.

The third game in Volume I is a never-before-published game in the States of Siege series! Cruel Necessity: The English Civil Wars 1640 - 1653 puts you in charge of Puritanism and Parliament and their attempts to usher in the Reformation and Age of Reason. Can you create a fighting force capable of defeating the Royalist Armies of Charles I? Can you foster Puritan religious reforms while suppressing those of your rival Protestants and hated Catholics? Can you forge an alliance with the Covenanters of Scotland and prevent them for going over to the King? Can you manage the rebellions in Ireland without draining too many men and resources to do so? These are just some of the dilemmas you must balance in order to bring an end to Divine Right Monarchy and usher in the Age of Revolution. The GMT edition will include a grand tactical combat mini-game in addition to the base game of Cruel Necessity - after all, what fun would an English Civil War game be with the charge of cavalry and the push-of-pikes?

I like this partnership between GMT and VPG. VPG can launch products and the best and/or most commercial of them can be upgraded for a wider audience. The ones I already have I won't mind getting again in a GMT format and, while I may not have bought something like No Retreat! The Russian Front as a VPG title, the fact that it gathered enough of a following to move up to the GMT level makes me think it's something I need to get. Everybody wins.

I love Manoeuvre... one of the best new(er) games and a great entry system for new wargamers. Even though I haven't worked my way through all the original armies, I'll surely be supporting this expansion.

Any thoughts on a "deluxe reprint" treatment of the original game? Maybe something with larger cards and stiffer land tiles?

USE will get one and hopefully very soon. Due to the efforts of Kevin Coombs (as I have found VASSAL module creation too difficult), a VASSAL module is done. However, there were some very recent changes so I want those in before it is released.

I'm not planning on creating one for USCB. But someone else is certainly welcome to create it.

First announced: August 2011

Current Status: Not There Yet

Preorder Price (List Price): $39 ($59)

Number of Players: 1-5

Comments: I just read Water for Elephants and if the game is even close to the book, this will be a lovely little vicious game.

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-355-circus-train-deluxe-edition.as...

Game Information: In Circus Train you are the owner and operator of a small circus train in Prohibition-era America. Through clever card hand management, you control the movement of your train around the American Northeast, making strategic business decisions about talent, performances and payroll in this fast-paced strategy game.

Circus Train includes a wonderfully competitive 2-5 player standard game, and a tense solitaire version where money is a very tight resource indeed. Optional rules build upon the game's rich narrative, providing greater management challenges and plenty more opportunities for competitive backstabbing.

First announced: November 2011

Current Status: Not There Yet

Preorder Price (List Price): $45 ($65)

Number of Players: 2

Comments: As I predicted last month, we're over 400. No bets for March though.

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-375-newtown.aspx

Game Information: “The Indian country is not merely to be overrun, it is to be destroyed.” With these marching orders from General Washington, Major General John Sullivan set out on a scorched earth campaign designed to bring the Iroquois to their knees.

Since the beginning of the war the Iroquois and other British-allied Indians had been the scourge of the western frontier. Wyoming, Cherry Valley and Schoharie are just some of the names that resonated through American hearths and homes. By the summer of 1779 Washington had had enough. He was determined to not only defeat the great Indian confederacy but also break its ability to make future war. It was to be a campaign that presaged Sherman’s march some eighty five years later.

After some "monster" (relvatively speaking) battles from the past few games in the series, good to see a smaller scale battle that hopefully offers scenarios with quicker play time. I like playing Eutaw Springs or scenarios from Monmouth with new players, it'd be good to have another few quick players for this system.

Current Preorders: 420 (+9)

First announced: October 2010

Current Status: Not There Yet

Preorder Price (List Price): $45 ($67)

Number of Players: 2

Comments: This one continues to outpace, ever so slightly, the second expansion.

Game Link: http://gmtgames.com/p-324-panzer-expansion-1-the-shape-of-ba...

Game Information: This first expansion set for Panzer includes detailed TO&Es for the German and Soviet forces covering the entire war period from 1940 through 1945. It also includes a focus on what many consider to be the most intense tank battle in history, Kursk, with OBs for both forces and TO&Es for four of the most notable German divisions at the moment they saw action during that historic conflict – Grossdeutschland Panzer Grenadier Division, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd SS Panzer Grenadier Divisions.

This first expansion set also includes the first four double-sided geomorphic mapboards. With them, players can recreate any number of tactical battles reminiscent of those actions fought out of the seemingly endless steppes of Russia.

Glad to see this is finally picking up some momentum. Hard to believe there really hasn't been a solid boardgame on Civil War naval combat since Ironclads.

We'll be pushing a bit more on this one in terms of promotion in the near future, guys. The thing is the design and development is finished;the game is ready to go to art and printing. So we'd like to see it get one of those 3rd or 4th quarter slots. But the order #s just aren't quite there yet. We like the game and are willing to take a bit of a risk. But the topic scares us a little, sales-wise, as we're just not sure what the market is. So if you're interested in this one at all and waiting to put in your P500 until later, you'd help us a lot by letting us know your interest soon.

Thanks much!

Current Preorders: 478 (+10)

First announced: June 2011

Current Status: Not There Yet

Preorder Price (List Price): $39 ($59)

Number of Players: 2 (easily playable solo according to the design team)

Comments: Growing nicely.

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-352-the-dark-valley.aspx

Game Information: The Dark Valley is a new game from award-winning designer Ted Raicer, focusing on the entire East Front campaign in World War II. The game components feature a beautiful map from Mark Mahaffey (see GMT web site), stretching from Leningrad in the north to the Caucasus Mountains in the south, and around 600 counters representing every major unit that appeared during the course of the conflict. Initially most Soviet infantry are divisions, but as the game progresses these are replaced by armies and corps, so that players are not overwhelmed by the increasing Soviet Order of Battle. All German mechanized divisions are present in the game, while their infantry is a mix of division and corps.

Although the game is a semi-monster, and covers the entirety of the conflict from the launch of Barbarossa to the end of the war, the game system emphasizes playability rather than rules overhead, allowing the players to concentrate on strategy choices rather than rules minutiae.

The core of the game system is a “chit-pull” activation system. Each turn a variety of action chits are drawn, in a random order, from the Action Chit Pool, and it is this that determines the exact flow of operations on that turn. If a German “Move/Combat” chit is drawn, the German player decides to move or fight (but not both), with all Axis units. If a German PZ HQ chit is drawn, units in command range of that HQ can move and conduct combat (with greater flexibility for armored units). If the Soviet Stavka chit is drawn, units may be deployed from Stavka Reserve to attempt to stem the Axis onslaught. If the Soviet Counterattack chit is drawn, Stalin insists that the attacks are made upon the fascist invaders, possibly to the detriment of the overall defense. When the Logistics chit is drawn, supply status is checked for all units.

It's not complex for a large game, but I would definitely say it is closer to Stalin's War than Clash of Giants in terms of complexity. The system is similar to neither game, but the latter is one of the simpler wargames, whereas The Dark Valley will have, at a guess, something like 16-20 pages of actual rules (plus additional pages for scenarios, set-up, etc.).

First announced: August 2011

Current Status: Made the cut NEW!!

Preorder Price (List Price): $82 ($125)

Number of Players: 2

Comments: Has now made the cut. Now the race to a production slot.

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-354-the-battle-for-sicily.aspx

Game Information: Fresh off the success of his "easy to play monster" system in GMT's The Battle for Normandy, Designer Dan Holte now brings us another BIG game, taking the system to the 1943 invasion of Sicily by Allied forces.

The Battle for Sicily uses the base system from GMT's The Battle for Normandy. The German Luftwaffe makes their presence known in this one, while the Allied player has post-invasion "end-around" landings available.

Along with the standard campaign game will be a 3-player "Monty vs. Patton vs. Axis" scenario, where the US & UK players will be competing for total victory, while still trying to maintain victory conditions over the Axis player.

Andrew, one thing to consider is that if it is like Battle for Normandy, its predecesor. It will have several smaller scenarios that used only one or two maps and are great fun in themselves. Plus after a while I am sure there will be a Vassel mod. Yes it is a monster, but if you where going to pull the triger on a monster I would sugest this one or BfN.

Current Preorders: 506 (+11)

First announced: October 2010

Current Status: Made the Cut NEW!!

Preorder Price (List Price): $39 ($59)

Number of Players: 1-2

Comments: Has now made the cut and is moving onwards towards a production slot.

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-315-operation-dauntless.aspx

Game Information: Operation Dauntless is a moderately complex wargame that covers the actions of the British 49th Infantry Division a.k.a "The Polar Bears" near Caen during Operation Martlet (called Operation Dauntless by the British at the time of the battle). Opposing these lads are elements of the 12th SS Panzer Division "Hitlerjugend" (Hitler Youth) and Panzer Lehr- elite panzergrenadier units. The goal of the British division is to seize the town of Fontenay, then press onward to secure the high ground near Rauray in time for the impending Operation Epsom, to be launched the next morning.

The game by designer Mark Mokszycki uses the same system as Red Winter, his game on the Battle of Tolvajärvi from the Russo-Finnish Winter War of 1939. The scale and key mechanics of Operation Dauntless are the same as Red Winter. Proposed future games in the series include Red Winter 2: The Battle of Ägläjärvi, Guadalcanal Land Battles, Scottish Corridor: The Battle for Cheux, and the Breaking the Panzers expansion for Operation Dauntless, covering the German counterattack at Point 110 (all are working titles and subject to change).

The scale is grand tactical- 90 minutes per game turn, 425 yards per hex, and mostly company sized infantry units with platoon sized armor units. Gone are the Winter War specific rules such as ski movement and night raids, and in their place we have a more detailed armor/anti-tank subsystem. There are lots of tanks on both sides in this one!

Current Preorders: 530 (+42)

First announced: August 2011

Current Status: Made the Cut NEW!!

Preorder Price (List Price): $45 ($69)

Number of Players: 1 (This is a solitaire game, but it has a two player option)

Comments: And it makes the leap into the production race!

Game Link: http://www.gmtgames.com/p-353-navajo-wars.aspx

Game Information: NAVAJO WARS is a solitaire game which covers one of the longest struggles waged on the North American continent. From the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors in 1595 until Colonel Christopher “Kit” Carson’s brutal Navajo Campaign of 1863, the Diné — the Navajo — fought to preserve their way of life.

In NAVAJO WARS, you the player must use skillful planning and cunning against a constantly changing and aggressive enemy. NAVAJO WARS uses a unique mix of cards and an enemy instruction matrix to drive the actions of the enemy. More than just chart-checking and die-rolling, in NAVAJO WARS, the player has to make lots of meaningful decisions in order to win.

Although NAVAJO WARS has been designed from the beginning as a Solitaire Game, the game does include two ways to play with TWO-Players: First, two players can play the game cooperatively, with both players discussing their options and making decisions together.

For players wanting a more competitive game, NAVAJO WARS includes an innovative semi-cooperative variant. In this variant, both players must work together because if the Tribe is defeated, they BOTH lose! Nevertheless, only ONE player can win! To win, each player attempts to establish his influence over the tribe. Throughout the game, players must balance what’s best for them against what’s best for the tribe as a whole. This makes for a very tense (and historically accurate) gaming experience!

Current Preorders: 554 (+4)

First announced: November 2009

Current Status: Made the Cut

Preorder Price (List Price): $55 ($79)

Number of Players: 2

Comments: Flying steady.

Game Link: http://gmtgames.com/p-297-wild-blue-yonder.aspx

Complexity: Not listed
Solitaire Suitability: Not listed

Game Information: In 1992, GMT released Rise of the Luftwaffe, the first Down in Flames WWII air combat card game. That game covered the early part of the War in Europe, from 1939 to early 1942. It was followed a few years later by the 8th Air Force expansion module, which added aircraft and campaigns for the latter part of the war.

Since then there have been two more games, two packs of additional aircraft, and a large number of C3i modules for the series. However, the original two games have been long out of print. GMT has considered a number of options to address that, from straight reprints to a base game/ campaign module arrangement. Finally, though, the company has decided to P500 an entire new game covering the WHOLE war in the ETO.

Wild Blue Yonder will be a true deluxe Down in Flames product. It will contain 16-20 full campaigns, nearly 300 aircraft cards, plus all of the necessary targets, resource sheets etc. needed for play. All of this will be packaged in a large box similar to the ones for the Combat Commander games.

Many of the campaigns will be on the same subjects as those in Rise of the Luftwaffe, 8th Air Force and various C3i modules. However, they will not be simple reprints of those campaigns. For example, due to card mix limitations the Fall of France campaign in Rise of the Luftwaffe included only one type of French aircraft. This will not be the case in the new game.

In addition, Wild Blue Yonder will contain two different types of campaigns, Land Campaigns and Strategic Bombing campaigns. The first type will be the familiar “standard” DiF campaign that players of the system are used to. The second type, though, will give both players a fixed “order of battle” along with reinforcements and replacements that they will have to use throughout the campaign. This will reflect the more attritional nature of these air campaigns.

Wild Blue Yonder will also include a number of Tour of Duty mini-campaigns. Each of these will be a series of dogfights from the careers of various well-known aces of the war. Those of you who want to more about this can check out C3i #21, which contains a Tour of Duty campaign featuring the Pacific ace George Welch.

Finally, the game will include at least one solitaire campaign for players who don’t have an opponent available.

Wild BlueYonder promises to be the best Down in Flames game yet. So strap on your parachute and get ready to take to the skies!

Game Information: "All summer they drove us back through the Ukraine
Smolensk and Vyasma soon fell
By Autumn we stood with backs to the town of Orel
Closer and closer to Moscow they come
Riding the wind like a bell...."
- Al Stewart, Roads to Moscow

Roads to Moscow is a two-player game depicting battles in the Soviet Union during the drive on Moscow in October 1941. The two separate battles shown in this game are named for the main objective city on each map, Mozhaysk to the west of Moscow, and Mtsensk to the south. Perhaps the most dramatic of the many desperate battles fought in front of Moscow, these two battles combined all the elements of the great struggle. The Germans have an excellent fighting machine but are short on fuel and time. They must capture their objectives on a tight schedule or snow and mud will end their offensive. The Soviets are down to the rearward remnants of their once immense armies. If the Soviets can avoid being encircled by the fast moving German forces, high quality reinforcements from the Far East may finally allow them to stop the German advance.

Comments: Lee mentioned last month that everything is at the printers now. The September 2011 P500 list for this entry generated a good (and civil) discussion about this campaign and the controversial nature of a game that has at its core the deliberate bombing of civilian targets. I'm tempted to quote the bulk of it here, but have decided instead to refer folks back to that month's entry.

Game Information: BOMBER COMMAND is a game of the night war in the skies over the Reich in World War II.

The game recreates the great RAF bombing raids against the heart of Germany and the defence of the German night fighter arm.

Based on an air combat system derived from the award-winning Downtown and The Burning Blue 'raid-scale' games, Bomber Command details the tactics of night fighting.

The German player must manage flak, Himmelbett zones, Wild Boar and Tame Boar tactics. RAF 'main force' raids are supported by Mosquito diversions, 'Gardening' operations (mining of seaways) and decoy raids. Two card decks--one for each player--are used to resolve the complex interactions of electronic countermeasures and radars, along with other operational factors such as Mahmoud patrols, Flower raids, and Beleuchter illumination units. A detailed bombing resolution system depicts the difficulties of marking targets and area bombing at night.

I've got nothing to do now. I'm sitting at home, twiddling my thumbs, waiting for a box to arrive in April.

I am in discussions with Rodger MacGowan at the moment and it looks as if we will be able to publish the rules for linking Nightfighter and Bomber Command together in the next issue of C3i magazine.

Latest news is that GMT are charging for the game on Feb 28 and are shipping in mid-March, a fraction earlier than expected.

Out of curiosity, I had a look at the Excel spreadsheet where I keep my P500 data for the monthly lists since I took it over in June of 2009.

Not only has the output from GMT increased over the years, the number of games on the P500 has increased commensurately.

Just a note on the reprints. Personally I don't see a need to track them monthly. That's a lot of extra work, and I think that the benefit for most games is negligible. On one hand everyone wants a weekly update on when the next reprint of [insert hot game here] is going to be, but for the most part games like Barbarossa Army Group North, 1941 are going to take a long time to work their way to the front of the queue, and I just want to be able to see the forward progress.

additionally, keeping them in a separate list will not dilute the essential nature of this list. With a reprint, I'm mostly interested in what kind of progress is it making, and when it is scheduled to be out. With your current list there are all sorts of questions to, and progress reports from designers and developers. If there's substantial redesign work in a reprint it probably belongs here, but I'd rather see this list stay focused and concentrated rather than diluted. As long as there's a link to the other list, I've got enough energy to click on it.
