Have you ever seen those advertisements on bulletin boards or telephone poles, where someone is selling a car, and has 10 strips with phone numbers, for others to rip off, take home, and call? This is an electronic version of that for those who want to play a certain game(s) on VASSAL, Cyberboard, or live on SKYPE, but can't find an opponent.

I'd like to put this list out monthly, just to keep it fresh.

Games are listed alphabetically. If a game is already there, go ahead and add it again.

If you wish to add a game, please include your playing preference: live (please list day/time) or PBEM. To save yourself from spamming, I wouldn't write my e-mail address here. Instead, find your opponent and exchange this information in Geekmails.

If you have a suggestions to improve this list, please put them in the comments section so that I can incorporate them into next month's list.

I'll post this here now, in the hopes of arranging a game to start sometime in late February or early March. This is an old title, so it may take a little longer to catch on.

So, any takers? I love the old fleet games. I can't claim to be an expert on the rules, so I won't teach it, but if you want it to be a learning (or re-learning) game that would be great.

I reread the rules, going to solo the intro scenarios sometime in the next week or so. If Chris turns out not to be able to play, I'll gladly give you a game instead.

EDIT: Soloed the first intro scenario. The Iwo Jima was damaged, but not sunk, the Ottawa and Hawes were sunk and the Frunze was damaged on the Soviet side. The Russians aerial attack is next.

Hi,

I'm checking in about this. I started sorting the counters tonight, and got out the rule book. Realistically, I think I can be ready to start in 2-3 weeks, if that's good for you. We can work out details and such a bit later.

I've got two 4 player, combined theater, 1937 campaign games going now, via email (using cyberboard). I posted in each game's forum and on CSW soliciting players, and had 6 responses very quickly. I think you can probably find folks for this game that way.

Good luck,

FORMAT Mostly PBEM, maybe some vFTF in between

TEACH No, rather learn

EXPERTISE Some scenarios, some battles started

Hi.
I own nearly all of the games in the series, but have a little trouble wrapping my head around some of the rule concepts (even after having fooled around with several games). So I would definitely need a patient opponent, preferably an experienced one, so I can learn quickly....
I would also be looking for a step by step increase of complexity, starting with a small scenario or two, and working towards a full battle.
As to which battle I am totally open!
As mentioned above I have collected most of the games over the years, but probaly a smaller battle (1 mapper) would be my preference , at least to start with. Hope there are some savvy CWB players out there, the community does not seem to be very active here on BGG....
Thanks,
Daniel

I, too, am in the same position. I own BV, GM, AH, TatC, and NBPtD. I also own Marengo and Austerlitz of the NBS. I read the most recent CWBS rules but haven't played, ever. Nor have I used VASSAL. I'd need someone who could help me through a small scenario via VASSAL and Skype.

Thanks.

And could also use Cyberboard (the majority of the battles is available only in this format).

Teach: No (I'm new to the OCS system and still learning myself)

Expertise: 2 solo games of Tunisia (Race to Tunis and the Campaign) and I started a Korea solo campaign as well.

I think it could really be a great way to improve/discover better the OCS system to play with a real opponent. I should be able to play approximately 2 turns/week, (real time with the OCS system ) but a slower pace is not a problem.

Note: I want to play this on VASSAL/PBEM against an experienced player who knows how to play the Americans. After 6 games, my buddy and I could not figure out how to get the Americans out of the metagame in order to win the game. I was convinced the game is imbalanced in favor of the Jihadists, but have since been told that the opposite is true, so I would like to see if I am the greatest Jihad player in history (doubtful) or if I completely missed the boat on playing the Americans (probable).

Well, the thing about it is if the moves and decisions are really quick and you can turn them around in 5 minutes, it can still move quickly (at least if you're the obsessive-compulsive type who checks his e-mail constantly and responds during the work day). whistle

Hi there.
I am looking for a slow-paced PBEM game or two.
Mostly PBEM, maybe interspersed with an occasional vFTF meeting if feasible and convenient.
I would like to play the Germans, BTW, if that is fine with any takers.

Expertise: I have read the rules and played one solo learning game. I am certain I got a number of rules wrong in that play. I am now reading through the rules again.

Notes: I am willing to stumble through a game with someone of similar experience as long as that person has patience. Of course this means I will be forgiving of rules mistakes as well.

(edit: many typos)

Teach? Oh no, rather looking for a teacher. This will be my first step into PBEM-wargamedom. I toyed with the VASSAL module, but will probably have questions regarding what to log and communicate.

Expertise: Early steps solo, but I promise not to be grumpy even though I'll get my ass handed to me...

A few issues with the module have been brought to my attention here and on the VASSAL forum. I'm slowly working on the fixes, but unfortunately I don't have a lot of spare time to devote to this, so it could still be awhile.

As long as you aren't trying to use the expansion cards or are using ACTS to manage cards in a PBEM game, you shouldn't notice the problems.

Fairly experienced player.

Defender resolves battles.

Honour system... but you can do all the dice rolls if this is a concern, I play purely for an enjoyable experience.

Teach? No. I still have to read the rules and probably watch the tutorial on vassal.

Expertise: Some experience with wargames in general, but never played a CDG(Thats also one of the main motivations).

Very interested on this one. WWII is a plus, North Africa campaign is another, implements a system as other well known monsters such as PoG, and I liked what I read about it in reviews and geekbuddy opinions.

We're playing by e-mail, so not sure it's something that you can peek in on. If you want to give it a try, let me know. (I should fill in a joke about K-State and Texas ... I really should ... hard ... to ... resist ...)

Seriously, though, all too happy to help. This one is a sweet one. It's ranked #4 on my Top 100.

Hey Judd go for it.

1. Any KState/Texas joke you made would be well deserved as you all have owned us seems since the Big12 started.

2. I'm in my late 40's and I'm a Texas lifer so there probably isn't anything you say that I haven't already heard. Old SWC was a brutal league as far as verbal back and forth. All the teams were from the same state (except Ark before they left), so I'm tough skinned.

If I'm gonna fly my alma mater as my avatar, I have to prepared for some backlash. Besides everybody loves to hate the guy on top...

Didn't realize ya'll were gonna pbem it. Maybe you can teach me sometime. Or maybe I'll get it played elsewhere.

Just be sure to send A&M and Mizzou out with a loss. The traitors deserve no less. I even cheer for KU when they play those two

I sure was happy to see ya'all beat Nebraska on their home field last year. I said that Mack Brown winks at Bo Pelini from across the sidelines and Bo gets so worked up over that, that he can't think straight.
