What is the derivation of your BGG name? Along with your answer, what game is currently under consideration? Do not list a game that you know you are going to buy next, but a game you may or may not buy. What is keeping you on the fence?

"ekted" is short for "Mr. Ekted" which is a play on the word "misdirected". Ten years ago when I started using it (I use it elsewhere online), it was kinda funny. Now I almost regret chooing it, because either people have a hard time pronouncing it, or they think my name is Ted.

I am currently researching Liberte. It took me a long time to download and read the rules, and I must admit, the image shown here is what kept me coming back to take a peek at the game. Now that I have read the rules, I am simply letting the ideas digest.

A rope-a-roni is a freestyle flatland bicycle trick where you pull the front tire off the ground while you are facing the opposite direction (like sitting backwards, side saddle on the front and back pegs). Then you glide with one foot on the back peg, the other for balance, and hands on the grips with the handlebars backwards. (for any freestylers out there, the easiest process for explaining this is "pulling up into a rope-a-roni out of a cyclone") Keep rolling in that position until you run out of speed. (take a hand or two off if you'd like, but it will be harder) Then you get out of it..and if you are good enough, right into another trick. The 4 on the end is because I screwed up and forgot the password on the one without a number, so I made another, and why not a 2? didn't matter, so I chose a 4.

The only problem I have with getting neuland is the cost and finding anyone with it willing to part with one for a reasonable amount of trade and/or money. So cost of this one is keeping me on the fence.

This game is one that I really like the look of. I love Greece and elements of this sound like a MUCH less dry Attika and then there's some trading, too. The board and cards look great. I held the gae in my hands yesterday in Nottingham and thought hard and was sorely tempted, but I passed. Why?
1. The cost - £35
2. I've just bought Crusader Rex, Napoleon, Samurai and Friedrich and Way out West. I am getting Power Grid for Christmas and I have WW2: Barbarossa to Berlin, Winds of Plunder, Conquest of Paradise and GWAS Plan Gold on order.
That's a lot of money on games at a time when we're just doing up our bathroom and there's the coming expense of Christmas pressies for the kids et al.
3. I'll wait to read a few more comments and a review in Games International. Nevertheless, I suspect that there's a high chance that I'll buy it next year.
4. I have a long list of games which I'm dying to play - most of the above, plus Medina, Mexica, Struggle of Empires, Karibik, Capitol, Alhambra, Serenissima and Condottiere. One has to ask if it's worth spending more now on games that will sit on the shelf for months, esp if money is tight at this time of year. Sure there is the pleasure of habing them, but one has to be pragmatic, too.

I also like the look of Pax Romana, but with Successors 111 hopefully round the corner, do I need it? Paul Boos has brought Joan of Arc to my attention and then there's Liberty or Washington's War...I'd like a AWoI game, but need more research. And then there is the Ra reprint. any of my Geek Buddies swear by the game...it's he highest ranked of all games that they like and I still don't have. Doomfarer in particular has got me interested in this one.

I'm taking this next bit from my profile as it's a bit long to type something new. My Geek name is after Admiral Sir John Fisher (known as Jacky). He is a big hero of mine and is maybe one of History's forgotten great men. Basically, he formed the fleet that GB fought WW1 with. He was responsible for the building of Dreadnoughts and Battle-Cruisers and he totally revamped the way the Navy worked. He turned it from a self-satisfied, lazy unit full of waste and obsolescence, into a modern unit with the best trained men in the world running the most powerful fleet in the world. Not only that, but he was one of the more fascinating characters of recent history. He was colourful and charming, liked to sing and dance, was full of interesting quotes and was really good to his men. All of that was very different from his dull, beaurocratic contemporaries. He was a close friend of King Edward V11 and Winston Churchill and served Britain late into his life as First Sea Lord. I have visited his house and met his great-grandson.

No Ace Yet

From the time when I did not have an ace in Disc Golf.
Now I have 2. My second was in the CTP (closest to the pin) competition between rounds....when I put it in the chains.

Ostia

I like games with simple rules...some trading...some bluffing...some blind bidding... I hope it all comes together in that game, and I hope my group will like it. This time I will not go out and buy it right away...I will wait for user reviews (I promise).

My initial user name was Kitescreech (at home)- at work I log on as AKAKitescreech. I picked the name years ago cos I had a spell of being heavily into Harpoon (Board and PC versions) and really liked the russian Navy. (its a NATO reporting name for a gun laying radar for the 100 and 130mm guns) Its a name I use in a lot of forums, and very few people (to date NONE) know what it is - Its also my WoW character.

Next game ? May try 1898, always had a soft spot for pre dreadnoughts and this sounds fun - though all the Avalanche naval games look and sound good.

I like the crayon games, but don't get to play them often, so I don't know if it worth picking up.

I used to throw boomerangs and got a few friends involved. We traveled to various tournaments and, as the most experienced thrower, I would be the one giving advice, and ended up with the nickname "Coach". When I first went online, Boomcoach seemed like a natural name. Since then I have also coached my kids soccer and bowling teams, so I guess it works OK.

I have been the Grinch since Middle School, some 25 years ago. It orginally was not meant in a nice way but to tell the truth I kind of liked it and it stuck.

I really enjoy the Lovecraft Mythos and like the looks of this game. The thing of it is, I am not sure if the family would like this one or not. My kids are only 11 and 8 so it maybe just a tad higher than their level of gaming right now. That and my wife said no more games till at least after Christmas.

At the moment I am thinking about acquiring the mythology expansion to mare nostrum.
We played the original game once or twice two years ago, but it didn´t seem to work properly, though I´ve forgotten why blush
Since the rules seem to have been changed significantly for the better, this could be worth a try, because I like the looks of the game and the underlying concept.

My name is not that difficult. It´s a blend of my first name and Cthulhu. I like the mythos and the RPG a lot, and even am a coworker for the german Cthulhu RPG by Pegasus, though not an importent one at all. (One longer text a year or so.)

I am a poor sob that loves anything collectible. I have collections from futurama to board games to star wars episode three figures. I don't even like star wars episode three that much, but yet I collect the figures.

With this in mind I am always looking to collect at least somewhat hard to get games. The game I am currently looking at is La Citta, but then the idea of spending that much money on one game holds me back. Luckily my crazy collection instincts try and pull me right back in.

My name is my name. I just couldn't think of anything witty when registering.

Siena caught my attention when it was first previewed on the Gamewire. I holidayed in the Siena area last year and saw the fresco that is reproduced on the game board. Siena is a game of personal development, from peasant to merchant to banker. As the 12 pages of rules suggest, there's a fair bit going on. And it all looks very pretty.

I'm hoping to play this one at Essen before deciding whether to buy.

Considering Europe Engulfed. I don't have any concerns about the game itself, I just don't know who I would play it with. It is expensive, so I want to be sure it will get play time.

Quasi-phonetic spelling of physics with an element of 80's-hair-band-syle grammar mixed in. I am physics teacher and the word was on my license plate of the first car I bought. The car is gone (1992 Daytona IROC), the plates remain.

I'm looking into this game because the theme and overview of gameplay sounds pretty good. I like games where you get to build things ad have lots of choices . It's on the fence because it's going to be pricey and I really like to try games first. In fact, the games in my collection that I don't play much are all games that I have bought without playing first.

"Clearclaw" is a derivation from "claw". My user ID and login for computers and networks has been "claw" ever since I worked on the Super Conducting Super-Collider many years ago. The "clear" prependage simply came about as I found that "claw" was taken or not allowed at most Internet sites I was interested in and a few personal life events suggested the adjective.

What game am I still on the fence about? A great many actually. Indonesia, Tempus, Byzantium, Daimyo etc. I chose Tempus for this list as it has been getting a lot of good press but remains solidly on my play-first list. I like the sound of the game and love Age of Steam, but I've been sorely dissappointed by Martin Wallace's games ever since Age of Steam, specifically as regards higher luck levels and unpleasantly thick themes. Thus Tempus and Byzantium (which Bohrer even recommends for its thicker theme!) sit on the fence. Daimyo, while not a Martin Wallace game, has the same concerns, along with being from an effectively unknown designer.

I'm really thinking about Descent, but not only do I have to wait for it to come out I have to wait and see how my new copy of Hero Quest goes over with the intended victims. Descent is definitely my next consideration though.

'Domus Ludorum' is latin for house of games (I hope - I only have a friend's father's word for that). At one stage I was going to make it the name of our house but shelved that idea as latin seemed a little overblown for a 3 bed-semi. Instead I use it for various user id's.

'7 Ages' - I have come close to ordering this several times from both the ADG site and various other e-tailers. I love the idea, with all of the leader counters making it less generic than 'History of the World', and there seems to be a bit more historic meat on the bone than the other games of a similar ilk. The combat also seems to have a slightly more tactical element to it - although not wthout it's critics apparently. However it just looks too big - both time and space, especially given the price tag. Maybe, maybe not.

Fubar Awol is my actual name. I am a sailing geek.

My current short "to buy" list is Caylus, Tempus, Ra (reprint), Parthenon and E&T the cardgame. Probably in that order.

Caylus becuase it looks like it's a nice meaty game that scales from 2-X players, always a big selling point for me. Tempus, because it's a empire building game that plays in a resonable amount of time... and I'm always interested in that. Ra is just because its supposed to be so good and is coming back into print soon. T&E the cardgame because of the names on the box. (T&E and Knizia).

When I first signed on to BGG I had just read People of the Black Circle by REH and thought it was a great story so I chose Black Circle People for no other reason. Then I was rewatching The Simpsons wher Homer shouts, "Save me, Jebus!" and I made the slight change. Then my daughter started learning shapes and this was how she pronounced "circle". Voila... Black Kirkle Jebus.

I'm thinking of Manila right now because it seems like it could be a nice-risk-pushing-family-medium-light game and I'm definitely into light to medium games.

Airbear comes from the fact that I like bears (baloo is my favourite movie character) and I love aerial sports. I was bought a bear for my 35th birthday who goes on all my travels with me. His full name is Major Ellington Air Bear and is probably one of very few bears that have skydived, paraglided and base jumped. My avatar should really be changed to a picture of the real airbear in action but at the moment it is just me playing with gravity.

The game on my radar at the moment is polarity. I've been intrigued by this game for months now and am patiently waiting for it to be available in the UK. Or if I'm lucky I might find a copy at Essen.

Innocent Bystander - well it's kind of ironic as I am often accused by my gaming buddies of being a dirty, sneaky, conniving *&^%$. I often adopt a 'who me?' look when accused of plotting to undo some alliance or stab some in the back.

It was also inspired by one of my old philosophy professors who told a tale of how he had a t-shirt with the words 'innocent bystander' on and was once at the scene of a car accident and how he felt such a plonker standing at the side of the ride with this 'innocent bystander' tshirt on.

As for Indonesia I've just recently got Antiquity and was so impressed by it that I'm tempted to buy Indonesia without knowing anything about it. Splotter have such small print runs that it seems like a good idea to get in early.
