This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty, but as always, add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.
The Thrift Store/Bargain Finds List Wayback Machine: The Grand Vizier is maintaining a list of all the weekly lists through time. He is also adding stats and interesting tidbits for us thrifty geeks. Your Thrift Store Bargain Finds Through Time (with links to all previous lists)
Our GeekGuild: Welcome to The Ancient and Loyal Order of Thrifters. Enter the halls of thriftdom at your own risk. Please do mind the stacks of prized games, do not mention the musty smell and try not to sneeze. Make sure to bow before our King Belial I, and pay your due respects to previous Kings Great_Mazinga, minionhunter, Krazygit, EvilTimmy and Blackwind.
The Order's Anthem: Sing along with our good old thrifty theme song...
Made a stop at the local flea market. Wasn't much available, as many shops close up during the winter months and it was bitterly cold outside. One place had a wall of games and the guy there informed me all games and puzzles were just $1 each, for a limited time.
I bought this and when I got it home found it was missing one of the tan fighters, Cobra I think. Box is in really poor shape, but I believe everything else was complete and useable.
This, also $1. It is complete, but one of the tabs that holds the paddle in place is broken, so it doesn't work correctly (ie, paddle falls off). This was on the Donald Duck side. I also wasn't able to find a good battery to test the motor. I have Loopin' Louie but I was excited to have a two-player copy my sons could play with. Hopefully I can figure out a way to repair or rig the broken side.
Found the Champions of Chaos book for $2. Also got a 2002 White Dwarf magazine for $2.
I really should say each was $3, because I accidentaly bought what I thought was a Warhammer book that turned out to be a folder full of promotional materials for shops looking to stock/sell/demo Games Workshop products.
Collectible GW promo materials go for $3,700 on eBay.
Yeah, I rather doubt that is what I have. This is more like a folder of leaflets they would send in a box of product, or give to a shop owner who was asking why they should sell GW products. I don't think there is anything collectible in what I have.
It included a 2002 b/w catalog, and several of the glossy promo sheets were about the "new" Lord of the Rings line. I can post a pic tonight after work.
Saw one once in someone else's cart - tempted to grab and bolt - but morals won out.
If it had been Capes & Cowls: The Superhero Board Game though, I would have thrown a sleeper hold on that sweet old woman then stiff armed my way to the cashier.
I saw an odd religious game up at your Savers a while back, but had too much of a backlog to bring it home with me (I'm getting caught up on images and version info now).
I can always use more dice. Especially when they are different colors. Savers for $1.99
I also picked up 3 MPC/ERTL models for $4.99. they are the Millenium Falcon, a Star Destroyer and a Hoth set. All are still on the sprues. I hope to be able to make a little profit on these.
I've mostly lurked around these list b/c I rarely find anything good. This was an interesting pick up at GW for $0.75. It has about 8 wooden poker card dice and a dice cup, along with some plastic poker chips. All in really great shape considering it's 40 years old or so
Hey the ship I served on, the USS Aylwin ff-1081 is a counter in this game and in the big game gets blown up by a lybian missle boat on the first turn almost every time
I am not Emperor Palpatine. In other news, You Are BANISHED!!!
Wow. This copy of the game has never once caused an argument or fight between family members, sowed the seeds of distrust into a previously healthy relationship, or driven a wedge between friends. It must feel so... unfulfilled.
$1.91. Everything there. This copy will be going to my parents.
As much as I enjoy giving away all these fun games to family and friends it's been a little while since I've had a nice score for myself. The hunt continues...
$2.99 at VV. It's got all its Dice I've also been looking for some stands for some DIY stuff.... lots of those! I may even be able to use the board & box (new art for each, and a nice DIY box!)
This was at the Sportsworld VV - the Ottawa & Weber VV has a copy of this - but for $4.99 (and it looks like it is in worse shape!)
Good score! I own the original base game and it's quite enjoyable. The cases are more complicated than you'd think, and you really have to use your noodle. I'm really bad at this game but I love it. Enjoy!
The numbers 58, 75, 288 and 515 are the winning tickets in last week's Thrifty Lottery. Congratulations go to bobpony, ErnieJ, Fugazi2112 and teabo. They are the winners of one shiny coin each. The winnings have been added as tips to the corresponding listed items on last week's list.
