These are games that just go totally over the top in terms of production. By overproduced I mean that the game just blows you away when you open the box. For fun, add the one element that really pushes the game over the top (the most excessive, maybe useless, but still cool bit).

Hands down the most overproduced game! The metal minis are awesome. But boy, what a bad game!!! The playtesters must have smoked heavy stuff! And what about Goldsieber to publish such a crap!!

This one, and 13 Dead End Drive, are exceedingly overproduced. My favorite addition? The safe with the lever that pops the little metal pig out.

Me throw pretty dice!

Many, many, many, MANY customized dice.

In a way, it's the precursor to Heroclix... or it's goofy-looking, akward cousin.
Not a bad game, but not surprising it went the way of the brontosaurus.

King Oil. Big plastic 3D board with wheels underneath so that the game is never the same. Lots of derricks to stick in the holes, and a big drill rig that pops up to tell you the yield of the well. Very cool.

Keythedral, which plays up to five, provides each player with ten workers each, never mind that it's almost impossible to use all ten workers, it's theoretically possible. And just in case that's not enough there's a multicoloured spare worker. Now all these pieces actually need is to indicate their player colour. But for added quality each worker piece has a nice line drawing of a worker working. ... Fifty one different drawings.

One of my favorite games to play when I was younger, partly because of it overproduction. The mat pretty much takes up an entire living room floor and each base for the units is about the size of a CD case more or less. It also includes a tower, a canon, and one large ogre.

This is the most "overproduced" game i have (all expansions included) before i buy HeroScape.
There's a LOT of miniatures (unpainted), with some exageration: you have to mount the choosen weapon on the soldier miniature

There's also some plastic "display" which have no pratical use at all.

I still remember the "oohhh" and "aaahhh" when i finally assemble the Dreadnaugh, the biggest piece on the box.

Anyway, i'm still playing this game with a full satisfaction.

Here's one I remember thinking was overproduced when I got it at age ten. First off, it's got two levels of mansion --sort of like Betrayal at House on the Hill -- but unlike Betrayal, these are 3-D platforms that you have to fold up to assemble before playing, a good half-hour ordeal (see the assembly instructons there on the right?). Then... see those little brown things at the bottom? They're treasure chests. You have to put a little token in each one, either a cobweb or a treasure. Little teeny pieces that always fell out. Or went in upside down and you had to go fish them back out again. Randomized cards probably would have done just as well.

Before the molded plastic revolution, this classic is the epitome of an overproduced game.

Plastic shields (with stickers), Noble cards, stronghold cards, Assembly attendance cards, ownership markers, improved ownership markers and garrison markers...for each player. Add to that Fate cards, Assembly motion cards, Regular Troop cards, Mercenary cards, Town Levies cards, vote chits, Royal Pretender chits, end of line chits, merchant fleet chits and cardboard currency ranging from 500 Crowns all the way down to 1/2 a Crown!

This is a bookcase box-sized game that takes about 45-60 minutes JUST TO SET UP. Fortunately, the game is as rich to play as the components are varied.

Not to be outdone, FFG has remade this game in 2006, with yet even more chrome in it. When I was finished punching counters and removing plastic pieces from sprues, I was forced to turn upside-down the cardboard insert inside the box (which was creating a center well-section to hold things; turning it over creates 2 wells, with a raised center section) in order to properly store all of the bits and pieces.

Not to be outdone is Titan. Not only are there hundreds of fantastic creatures printed onto large, oversized counters, each monochromatic piece has a unique pose. All of the Cyclopses are green, but no two look the same in this game!

I hope the art director was well-paid for this project...

Not quite overproduced, but close enough to be mentioned for the simple fact of the credit cards & card machine. That was a completely useless component and big, boxy piece of hardware that easily broke and could have been replace by a simple die roll. If anybody ever actually put stuff on credit, which they didn't.
If they'd made the pawns into people, had some pet counters, and maybe different models for the different stores (think The Game of Life), then it would be overproduced. But MB was definately heading that direction.

I am surprised this one does not appear on the list. The much maligned (somewhat unfairly) clue spin off has beautiful pieces and cost a bundle. I suspect one reason it is so vicuously maligned is the fact that it cost so much, looks so pretty, but is really just average in play.

A simple asbstract game with shiny metal tubes on a wooden support.
Even though one could realise this game in full plastic to cut down costs, I personally wouldn't consider getting this game with cheap components.
One should distinct quantity vs. quality of components to consider a game overproduced or just right produced.
So I leave it up to you if this game is overproduced or not.

For "Overproduced" I'm talking about the Deluxe version back in'03. It contains all the supplements. Talk about taking a good basic game and crushing it under the weight of cool, but optional add-ons! The game is barely playable if you use everything. They've even added two more supplements since then! Stop the madness, guys

It's not obvious from the photo, but this is an oversized box (approx. 20" x 10" x 6" if memory serves) with a huge board, tiles, wooden pine trees, money counters, and ownership tokens. For all that, all you really need to play it is sixteen playing cards, some generic markers, and play money; Cheapass could have published it for $3. It wouldn't have looked nearly as nice....

Kill Dr Lucky was originally produced by Cheapass Games, whose main proposition was to sell games cheaply, without bits or dice which were assumed to be borrowable from any other game.

Now we have a Deluxe version, with colour, with quality, with bits.

Overproduction is relative.

I am not sure what comes in the main game (it is up in my attic) but this game really must have the added troops or you might as well just play battletech. that is where it starts to get messy. When you buy one of the Epic troops boxes you end up with a couple hundred 1/4" or so figures and you put 5 on a base. Then to try and paint them with anything bigger then a eyelash you just get a big blob. I will look at my boxes and see how many pieces just come in the box and how many you need for a simple army. But then again ANY Games Workshop game is overproduced but the Epic series is insane. If I had it to do over I would leave this one on the shelf.

How can Talisman (third edition) not be on here? It seems made for this list. That's a picture of the components in the basic game. Tack on some expansions and you have 6+ sq. ft. of board space, a huge tower with a freaking 5" dragon on it, &c. I had never seen a game that looked so busy.We had a closet full of games in grad school but this one always caused a large amount of debate with respect to setting it up. It's like we had to make an appointment with people to play. "Okay, bart will come in early and start assembling the play area and chits. jeb will coordinate the Tower construction and make sure the cards are all there. Is anyone bringing food?"
