I frequently see questions asked about what games can be played with just a single player, and while there have been several other lists created for this purpose, I aim to make this the definitive list. Please add any games I may have missed.

The two questions I always ask when looking at games are; "What's this about?" and, "Is this solitaire only, or can I play it with others?" To answer these questions, I have listed a brief summary of each game (stolen from the game's page) and listed the number of players supported.

All comments are welcome and appreciated.

solo dice game, kind of a fantasy-themed Yahtzee. Your party of heroes will face several encounters in a dungeon. Only needs a player sheet and some dice.

This is my little contribution to the genre...

Started out as a variant of Zombie in my Pocket, but it became so big and different that it warranted its own game entry.

The game focuses on the airborne drops of June 5th, 1944, to prepare the Allied landings. Play the game as a paratrooper, a spy, a French resistant, a pathfinder or even a German infantryman.

The game includes 44 scenarios, about 60 historically accurate weapons, players aids and all sorts of goodies. Also, the rulebook and the campaign book include historical background and notes.

Although the game is designed for solitaire play, it concludes rules for multiplayer (up to 4) and many 2-player scenarios (both confrontational and coop).

This is a great game - one of my favorites to come out of Victory Point Games. Lots of replay value - lots of decisions - and it moves quickly. Rules are easy to digest and internalize so very little need for rules referencing during play. Smooth.

330. Board Game: Sneaking Mission: Solo [Average Rating:6.34 Unranked]

designer
Sneaking Mission: Solo is a solitaire game of stealth operations. Players take control of a Special Agent, who must infiltrate the enemy base to recover the secret files, while watching out for Guards, Security Systems, and using strategic hiding places to avoid being caught!

SM:S's tiles are modular, so every mission will be different than the last.

Sneaking Mission: Solo is a free game, ready to play after printing a single page of cut-outs. Aside from that, all you'll need are a form of "blips" (such as game counters, small beads, or even loose change) and 1 two-sided coin.

I can only agree. The only real difference between a solo-game and with other participants is that a game consists of 10 rounds instead of the usual end-requirement. And some die rolls that normaly would effect others, effect you..

Just ran across this one. From what I understand it is somewhat of a designers kit. You use the map tiles and rule set to design your own game and play co-op or solo. The components all look professional and the paper mini's look amazing (and cheap!!).

The forum on the main web site is very helpful if you want more info.

Great looking prodcut here.

Im not sure if the above item is D and D 4th Editon. Either way it is the 4th edition Im refering to.

Due to the combat heavy modules, a randomn dungeon generator in the Dungeon Masters Guide, the suggested tactics of the monsters this makes this an amazing solo experience.

With the all the contiually expanding source materials this is a solo dungeon crawlers dream.

Here's my quick review if you are interested...

Just finished both a solitaire game (using VASSAL, I missed a couple of US Control rules and ended up failing at turn 16), and a two-player game with a friend who had bought it and wanted to learn it. Very tough to win, at least it has been for me, and I really have no idea how anyone is supposed to get as far as the US did (using the Beyond the Beach scenario's starting point as reference).

Probably the most pleasant AI to admin in most of the solitaire wargames I play. BTW, the designer also did RAF (recently republished in a much nicer edition) as well as Ambush! back in the day. Decision Games puts out a lot of duds, this (as well as the reprint of RAF) isn't one of them. Highly recommended.

I´ve been playing with this game lately and it is quite good. Few decisions but fun. You have to choose 1 tile from 5, and they are all very different (not subtle differences) and, of course, you want them all! but can only take one. I am now trying to beat fifth level.

And while I was playing Kismet, my sister was sitting in the next room playing Yahtzee. I am not making this up. We played a lot of games together, but often we played separately. This says a lot about my family.

Once a day or so, one of us would report a high score to the other. Eventually it was taking me a week or more to beat my highest, but my sister was able to report a better score every day. One day she reported she had scored 1525. wow That's 325 on the grand total line plus 12 bonus chips. This says a lot about my family too, particularly why we were playing separately. .

This dice game used to be print-and-play... but will be commercially available at the end of 2011 (with solitaire rules and updated components).

In DDD, you must storm the beaches of Normandy to silence a machine gun nest. To do this, you will gather soldiers, recruit specialists, find items and muster the courage to move from sector to sector. Sounds hard? You bet!

A resource-managing and tactical challenge that's not for the faint of heart, playable either solo or in coop multiplayer.

Yes, very much so. To prevent arrest, you must shred it, burn it the pieces, bury the ashes and then nuke the burial site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Seriously, it's not illegal to have it because the files were given away for free. Frankly, I'm wondering what kind of jerk publisher bought the rights to the game and then ordered that the free files be yanked. That wasn't done for Zombies in My Pocket, and I don't think it's hurt that games sales. Just the opposite: The designer of that game included new features in the multiplayer version. So the free game became something of an advertisement for the commercial game. All the publisher is doing in the case of D-Day is causing confusion and alienating people who have heard of the game and want to try it, but can't because they didn't download the files before they were yanked.

Well, I wouldn't call my publisher a "jerk", but I understand your point.

Zombie in my Pocket is an interesting example, because the jury is still out on whether leaving the PnP version hurt its sales or not (I've been told the commercial version is not selling too well).

Personally, I would have preferred to leave the DDD files online, especially since the commercial version will look quite different, but I'm not the one spending tens of thousands on publishing the game.

Anyway, the Vassal modules of D-Day Dice are still online, for those who want to try the game. And there is the possibility of putting some files back online at some point (probably the first 2 maps).

You might be interested in this thread, where such a discussion happened a few months ago about The Resistance.

Peace,

E

Guess I came out sounding a little harsh. Sorry about that.

Anyway, the first poster in the thread you linked to pretty much summed up my feelings. I still believe leaving the maps online in no way hurts the commercial product -- no more than a video game demo hurts the actual game. You just need to offer more then what was in the PnP version (new maps, better artwork, cool dice, etc.) D-Day Dice is a great game and really look forward to seeing what is in the commercial version. Even though I came out sounding crass, I wish you and your "jerk" publisher the best of luck with it.

2 reasons to buy this updated version of Dungeon Twister:
-> It comes with miniatures.
-> Solo rules are included.

You start with a random foreman and $60. Draw three load cards as usual. Pay $1 to upgrade to a random foreman if you like or $5 to go through the deck and pick what you want. However, when you discard a foreman it's gone forever; you only go through the unused portion of the deck. For every turn that you use your own track without adding new track pay the bank $1. Upgrading your train is $10 as usual. You win when you have $250 + enough money to cover $10 penalty for any large cities you haven't built track to, $5 for every medium sized city you haven't built track to, and $2 for every small city you haven't built track to. The rule about having to build track to anchor spaces before you can sail and dock in a foreign port is null. However, I don't see a point in hiring a ship when you can get where you want by ocean inlets even if it's a little further and that way you don't have the events messing you up if you are on a ship when you draw one. You will find out within 1/2 hour if you have a chance of winning or go bankrupt. Odds seem to be about 33% of the time you can win.

I must thank those that made these lists before me, as well as the rest of BGG community for their input; I could never have created this list otherwise.

The new feature, Titles Only (in the header), makes it possible to keep this unsorted, yet to be able to search the list for particular games.

Still think one should be able to re-sort the list as one sees fit, hopefully that will be implemented one day.

This feature is fantastic and definitely the easiest way to accomplish SamNzed's request regarding searching for a specific entry in the geeklist. But another way is to use google. This works for anything and everything. In the search box, just type "site:www.whateversite.com/blah/blah search terms" and this will pull up pages in that domain/subdomain with those search terms. Example:

site:http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/11710 defenders of the realm

I'm a lucky man and my girlfriend also likes boardgames cool. In the other hand, I'm more fan of them and sometimes she doesn't want to play whistle , so I'm making my own collection of 1-player games. This is a great tool to check possibilities.

Thank all of you for this list.

Corsair´s Fame is my favorite solo game. Only Vassal. The authors are seeking publishers. The game can be seen in http://soloboardgames.blogspot.com.es/
