Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
is the newest edition to my favorites list as it came out last year. Ernest Cline is the Writer behind the movie Fanboys.
Ready Player One is an amazing story about near future society immersed in an MMO Created by a Geek and 80's obsessed genius, and the Treasure hunt inside it that could change the world.
I can not begin to tell you how obsessive reading this becomes. My Best bud recommended it after reading it in Two days, I read it in Three, my wife in six and my non-reading brother finished it in three reading sessions over the course of a week.
Its pure Geek Genius and if your a fan of the 80s reading it becomes a moral imperative. Despite some eye-rolling moments the book always seems to make you want to see what happens next, and the Easter Egg moments bring so much joy when you jump up saying ah-ha, or oh god I remember that.
How do you hate a book that references and incorporates everything From Dungeons and Dragons, Rush, Star Wars, Firefly, Back to the Future, School House Rocks, Family Ties, Zork, Voltron, Pac Man, and on and on and on. Great story Telling and great fun.
It will be a Sci-fi classic along the lines of Snow Crash, and Neuromancer. Trust me and read it.

The Super Cops by L.H. Whittlemore.
The super cops is a true story of Greenberg and Hantz a pair of cops they called Batman and Robin and turned the NYC ghetto upside down with over the top antics that best anything in a fiction cop show.
Ive read the book enough to have my copy taped together now and it is in fact out of print (published in 1973) But if you can get a hold of a copy of this do not hesitate. It is BRILLIANT!

Ive been reading Stephen King for So long I couldn't pick one True favorite and not list any others But Ill try to list some. The Movies are horrid and seem to have not even been written from the same material. Exceptions being Shawshank Redemption and The Body (Stand by Me).
Christine (read Multiple times)
The Talisman (with Peter Straub of Ghost Story fame)
The Stand (the uncut edition)
Cell (Brilliant Stephen king's Zombies and a little jab at society)
The Shining (NOT THE MOVIE!!! Cant understand how you could like the movie if you see how it ruined the book)
The Mist (short Story)
Needful Things
The Long Walk (as Richard Bachman)
Misery
The Langoliers (Novelette from four past midnight)
The Green Mile

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
I am NOT a book snob who believes because something is a "classic" its great But I love this Classic. Its so easy and enjoyable to read and the voice of Scout is so indescribably perfect That after Multiple reading Im still in love with it. It's the book I think of when I want to curl up under a blanket with some tea on a cold night.

The Keep by F. Paul Wilson
This is the first part of Wilson's "Adversary Cycle" That ends with another Favorite "Night World" and even includes "The Touch" and "the Tomb" (of Repairman Jack Fame) which are seperate stories that end up flowing into "Night World"
The Keep stands up on its own brilliantly and there is no need to read the rest or the series if you wish but this unique take on a vampire story taking place in a Nazi controlled keep is one of my all time favorites and has been read MULTIPLE times (I lost Count).
It is one of my HIGHEST recommends.
P.S. Yes that is a picture I added, My Second copy of the novel which is well worn and a copy of the game it spawned.

Robert E. Howard had done more in his short 30 year life than many writers would dream of in a lifetime. He created amazing characters and a line of writers inspired by his work.
Creating not only the great characters of Conan the Barbarian King, Kull, Solomon Kane and more but creating the whole genre now known as Sword and sorcery and a line of amazing Horror stories. Howard was part of another genius, H.P. Lovecraft's inner circle.

Ive read dozens of books on Sports stars from all different sports and franchises and to the best of my knowledge I own every Steeler Biography, not to mention Steeler team biographies, and Rocky Bleier's Fighting Back was one of the best, amazing and inspirational. A man who was told he'd never walk again after multiple injuries in Vietnam and came back to become half of the first EVER tandem of Running Backs to each rush for 1,000 yards in a season. An amazing story Of a person's never quit attitude and a team believing in the impossible.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was brilliant and I own several complete works of his including a Very Very old set of Holmes Books I picked up from a used bookstore many Years ago.
I used to watch Basil Rathbone's Holmes movies (1939-46) and loved them but nothing compares to the text.

I love comics, it was probaly where I started my Love of reading and Marvel has always been my Favorite company.
I started with Spider-Man (my Favorite Hero) and fell in love with reading Ghost Rider ( I still hate Cage for that) Daredevil, Moon Knight, New Warriors, Iron Man and OF COURSE X-Men, My favorite X-book seems to be X-factor though other than Joss Whedons Run on Astonishing X-Men which is considered a classic.

Im not as much a DC fan but I have read some Batman storylines I loved like Hush as well as Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Flash, Teen Titans and Nightwing. I am liking the DC relaunch MOSTLY and love the fact that Aquaman is finally interesting.

Im also a huge Fan of Hellboy and many books that Dark Horse, Image, and IDW make.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy (The Millennium Trilogy in actuality) really caught my attention and I really enjoyed the books.
Murder mysteries always excite me though I hardly ever go looking for them.
I advise against watching the original Swedish movies as they actually are really bad.
I haven't yet seen the US offering I'm sure it doesn't live up to the books either.

Seriously Joss! Why are there no Firefly novels? Ok the series ended but the universe didn't. At least get some writers on it. How about Jane Espenson?(Firefly, Buffy, BSG, Torchwood, Once upon a Time, etc) We know she can write and loves Firefly.
Im just saying Joss WE WOULD BUY THE NOVELS.
I know there are some comics and short stories. But a Novel series and an ongoing comic would be better.
Some one let him know ok?

I've read almost all of R.A. Salvatore's work. To me no one comes close. He's known for his fight scenes but what he is really good at is using just the right amount of adjectives. When i read his books i forget i'm reading and i feel like i'm watching a movie.

His Drizzt stuff is the most popular but his Demon Wars series i think is better. Not to mention his Crimson Shadows Trilogy which takes place in a world of its own. It will be a sad day when there is no new Salvatore for me to read.

I could have easily used The Pillars of the Earth or World Without End for this item, but I chose this to represent another book from author Ken Follett. "Fall of Giants" is the first book in his Century Trilogy. It is just as good as the previous 2 books that are better known here at BGG. His second book in this trilogy, "Winter of the World", is due out in September.

"Fall of Giants" covers several families from Europe and weaves their stories together. For those of you who have read PotE and/or WWE, it is written very much in the same style.
