This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty, but as always, add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted boardgames bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.

I was starting to think I'd be shut out this week. Been going to the usual stores the usual amount of times, but nothing, until the 4th of 4 stores today.
First I saw this. I already have this, but I know this is also a seller right now. Haven't inventoried yet. Value Village, $2.99.
But the other find from this store was the more fun one...

Far easier than you might think. We seem to have a healthy supply of good games at the thrifts, but at least in Portland competition is insanely fierce.

$3.99 @ Coralville Stuff Etc. A rare Ravensburger (for Iowa) in good shape but short two tiles and the rules. I'll have to figure out which two, then hit the spare parts list.
These are almost always missing the rules..they are on a tiny 5 x 8 sheet (or something about that size) so I guess they are easily lost. But they are available here so no big deal.
...a 1976 game made by the Hallmark card company. Sounds dismal so far, right? But actually, it has card-driven race mechanics similar to the highly-rated Kramer games Daytona 500 and Detroit-Cleveland Grand Prix! (Plus, 4 metal horse miniatures.) Who would've thunk it??
I see now here on BGG that this game was originated by Ravensburger, so that helps explain the sophisticated gameplay.
Complete, and in excellent condition, with many sheets left on the betting pad. Maybe played only once?
(Also probably from the same donation was another Hallmark game, kind of an abstract with dice. Now that I look under the Hallmark listings here I can't find it, so looks like that version isn't in the database. I'll have to have another look if it's still there next time.)
Seriously overpriced at $10 from Salvation Army. But unplayed. I already own a copy (almost unplayed!) but thought it would make a nice gift for a gaming family.
I can't seem to get rid of copies of this game. Originally bought it cheap, found an expansion at Salvation Army, sold them as a bundle for a loss (thought I'd make $30+), then got a copy back as part of a raffle! They must be multiplying.
They must all be migrating to the Commonwealth, since you all find them like multiplying rabbits (or frogs Down Under, right?), but I've never seen one here.
$3.99 at GW. Good condition; but a bit overpriced in retrospect. The odd thing was that the box is tin instead of cardboard. Does that make any difference - a special issue? I already have the cardboard version so I know that they weren't all made with metal boxes.
I bought one of these last week and the yellow set of pegs were missing. This time all the colors of pegs are included. The box is expendable, but I will have pieces for the spare parts list. $1.95 St Vinnies
Hahhahahhahahaha. When I was checking out at the Port Orchard GW on Tuesday, moments after I saw you, the clerk there commented to me "You know what game I used to love. 5ive Straight. But you just can't find it anymore"
$1.99 @ GW. Rarely hit the thrifts two days in a row but I am glad I did. Found this in great condition, nothing missing. Had an incomplete copy, so now I have a parts copy...
This St. Vinnies rarely has any of these games. Just older titles and beat up boxes for the most part.
I stopped by again today after the day's post office run. I kindly asked the game girl when she brought out a stack of playing cards (she rarely emerges the times that I'm there) if she had anything else coming out today. She said "Yes.Be right back". When she came back she was holding sweet goodness in her lovely hands, and for $4.95 I think I'll buy that. I'm there enough, I'd like to think they were waiting for me to come in.
Great condition. Masked on all four sides, but shouldn't be a problem to remove. Assumed complete when taped as is their standard rule for games unless otherwise stated.
So, an incomplete beat up Axis and Allies sits behind their counter then on the shelf for $22.50 and this one goes for a fiver. I guess sometimes they look up values on the computer then other times they just price them according to some other random rule. I'm OK with that today.
Don't you dare say you are anywhere near Vancouver...
Would be intensely jealous if the same thing hadn't happened to me with the standard version in a Goodwill a couple of years ago. But would definitely love to find this one (and the Marklin edition too of course...)
I'm a'comin' in a couple of weeks! But, I'll be spending more time at enriching things like zoos and science museums than thrift stores. A shame, I say!
$1.99 @ VV. Great shape, with normal shelf wear and one side has a slight warp. All pieces present! First one of these I have found in about 4 or 5 years...
I'm up to 6 now, and passed on 5-6 more... These seem to all have completed successful sales on ebay in the $20-$30 range. So, we'll see how it goes over the next month, as I slowly list them.
I still don't know what I'm going to do with my 1987 Flat Board version. The box is 2' x 2.5' and 4" thick!
One of the game places on the net (Hills Wholesale maybe) had this for real cheap a few years ago so i bought a bunch of starter decks. I thought it was really fun & your right the art was pretty well done...
I remember this one vaguely when it came out. I bought a small amount of it to play at the time. It did have pretty nice art (anime-ish). Gameplay was not too bad as I recall.
I think it may have been before you were there. I saw a new Ratuki and a Clue Express before I found this one. First game I have thrifted in quite awhile.
Great day for thrifting! I stopped in at Goodwill and found 4 items to share..
First up a very nice Backgammon set which looks a lot like the picture. It is a large locking briefcase style set for $3 at goodwill! I had been holding out on thrifting one until I could find one I really liked...
Having this ancient game is a prerequisite. Good for you, waiting for a nice copy.
Oh ya I've passed up I would guess over 50 different ones waiting for a good one. Doing the same thing waiting for a Go set, as well as Mahjong and Mancala that I really like.
