Below is my Top 10 list of games with an art theme. These are games that meet substantially all of the following criteria: (1) art, whether it is creating paintings, sculptures, etc. or selling/dealing/appraising/auctioning it, is the key focus of the game; (2) compelling "theme" using art; and (3) fun to play. This is a list of the BEST! As always, your mileage may vary and some entries may be "controversial." As such, please feel free to comment, debate, or just express your own point of view. Feel free to thumbsup this list (to draw attention and more comments) or any pleasing, interesting or thought provoking entries. If I missed one that you feel is essential or I am "insane for not listing" (trust me, it has been said before), then by all means let the comments fly . . . just be civil. FYI - I am a sucker for comments and discussion and usually thumbsup most if not all of them.

I find that these lists sometimes are helpful for others seeking similar games and the more rich the discussion for more useful the list.

For a complete listing of my Top 10 lists, see--MetaList: Nap's Top 10 Lists.

Thanks for reading and participating!

I'm a sucker for interesting themes: painting a fresco on the ceiling of a cathedral? Choosing a "getup" time that affect your "mood"? WHAT!?!? Sold!

I'm not terribly skilled at games like this, like Stone Age (which I also like very much). Maybe that's why I lean towards games like this one, they keep me coming back for more beatings, I mean valiant efforts.

This is my current favorite game...fun for 2 players but equally enjoyable with 3 or 4. I love teaching it to friends and have been recommending it for play with families...lots of great learning opportunities here in this high-end production: color mixing, well-known artists and their paintings (styles and periods). A very unique game...northing else quite like it!

Fascinating game. Trying to balance making money by buying and making money by selling is very challenging and satisfying. I love the fact that the market can be so volatile-- paintings worth a lot one round may be worth nothing the next. This makes for an intense ride. There is a lot of calculation, both mathematical and psychological. Modern Art is an all-time great game.

Nov 2011 I remember growing up playing Parker Bros. Masterpiece, really digging the actual art. Today, this is as close as we get, I think.

NOT IN ANY WAY should this be compared to the original "Modern Art". These are totally different games.

I have Masters Gallery version. Very fun and engaging game. 2P is way different animal than >2P. Very glad I picked this up.

A (relatively) forgotten old Teuber game that has that gaudy cartoon feel of 90s German games, but feels quite unusual.

Essentially, a stock-market game based on artists & their works, you're aiming to get artworks, make 'your' artists more valuable and decrease the value of other artists. Bluff, negotiation, dicey-fighting, cashflow management, a little memory - everyone is involved all the time. Great fun.

Great fun where some of mankind's greatest achievements are mere fodder for parasitic conspicuous consumption! I say!, What?

Yes, I've rated it highly. But what other game does our highly jadeable, highly experienced and critical, non-art backgrounded gaming group almost always want to play when people don't feel like playing anything else? Expos. That's my entry up there, and you're supposed to be really objective, so I tried to stop my enthusiasm leaking through!

I'll try to do a review really soon though.

And I'll post photos asaic.

I hope other people round here have at least played it! It's a COOL game!

I'll do a review later. Say, why isn't there an Art category anyway, when you're entering up a game?

Reworking of Members Only, which also has elements of Titan: The Arena a/k/a Colossal Arena. With all that pedigree you would think this was crowning achievement in the "family"--unfortunately not! The others are better and more aesthetically pleasing (at least Colossal Arena). Having said that, as there are not a lot of offerings from the world of art themed games, this one is more than passable.

A neat blind bidding game has players vying for art experts that grant the winners coloured jewels. The jewels values are affected by another blind auction system with an interesting 'reset value' feature whereby if the value drops too low it is reset back to maximum. The player with the highest valued jewel collection at the end of the game wins. Good quality illustrated components in a compact box.
