This is a glorified wishlist.

I rank them by want, and I'll keep it updated.

A lot of games, I take a "Wait and see" approach, so any feedback (good or bad) is appreciated.

Here are my definitions:

Level 1: Going to be on the next Coolstuff or NWS order!
Level 2: Has a strong chance of jumping up on the next order or has an outside chance of making the next order. If it is unreleased, all I need is a release and a couple of good comments to order it.
Level 3: Very interested. Have a few lingering questions.
Level 4: Take it or leave it. Many questions. Not a high priority. If the right offer comes along, I'll take a look.
Level 5: I'll keep it on the radar for a rainy day. I'll get around to looking more at it, or I'm waiting on a VASSAL module to come out. I keep it on the wishlist only so I don't forget about it.

I'll make it a living list, so feel free to subscribe and comment often. Be one of those bad influences that make me spend my money. arrrh

ACQUIRED

I played it once and kind of liked it. From a realism standpoint, it was flat-out silly. This is NOT how the Constitution came to be. This is a Euro where you match symbols and collect tokens for victory points.

But I'm an 18th century U.S. history dork, so I liked the razor-thin "theme" and the history on the cards.

Because it requires 3+ players and my children are WAY too young for it, It's not a high priority. If the right trade offer came along or if it was a good price, I may buy it and put it on the shelf for a few years.

Update: I traded for it. Woo Hoo!

PURCHASED:

I like block games. I have Asia Engulfed. I want to play it first to see if I like the system. It's pretty pricey, so I need to see its practicality (especially VASSAL capability).

Update: The more I got into Asia Engulfed, the more appealing this became, so I found it on the Geek Marketplace for a great price and pulled the trigger.

PURCHASED!!!

I had no interest in this game 2 months ago. I never even HEARD of it, and WWII/Eastern front has never been a big area of interest to me before.

Then I made a Geeklist for the 10 Best "new to you" games of 2011, and a whole bunch of highly respected wargamers listed this as the best new game of the year (or it made their top 10). These are folks whose opinions I respect. So that immediately caught my eye and the more I started looking into this game, the more appealing it got.

I'm a huge fan of EastFront/EastFront II. EF still gives me steak, but No Retreat gives me the same sizzle in half the time.

Now, the fact it plays in half the time doesn't make it a better game, but it does open up a lot of windows of opportunity to play this one. This game has a lot of "old school" elements, such as sticky zones of control, but this is all tempered by the use of cards and the fact there are so few counters on the board.

Probably the best new-to-me wargame of 2011 in my books.

I will echo the comments here. I have drifted away from traditional h&c operational/strategic games for decades now. However, this game is certainly one that I will play. Not that it is a "traditional" game per se, but it certainly has many of the elements of one from the old school. With the bonus of having interesting nuances to shake things up.

In essence, it is a playable Eastern Front game with lots of bells and whistles for such a small package. I really recommend it especially if you are intrigued by what you have read to date.

I would rate it a little higher in complexity ... perhaps a 3 on your scale or even a 3.5. There are a few things to remember here and there.

Jon, you are the first bad influence that made me take notice of this.

As I scrolled down that Geeklist, my first comment, was, "Hmmm... Jon digs this. I never heard of this." Then I started scrolling down. "Hmmm...Wendell likes it. And Andy...and Peso Pete...and Gittes..."

But you, sir, were the first one to make me notice. First, there was Shifting Sands, then Unhappy King Charles! and now this. You are a bad influence

Think of it as my "revenge" for the brat-filled Judd torture / beatdowns I had to endure in both Washington's War and Wilderness War. Yes....yes...I will slowly bankrupt you...

Hey, the game is nifty and would have to be nifty for me to even glance at it given my gaming preferences these days. If the scale and the subject interest you I say it is a good purchase. Not only that, but the production values are first rate. Mounted map, larger counters, etc.

You know, you should take it for a spin beforehand with someone that owns it via VASSAL. Ideally real time.

Thanks for the info.

Will keep my game until then and then sell it. Sadly not my cup of tea.

Hey no problem, you cannot please everyone. But I can understand why it's not your "cup of tea" as you said. I mean, you gave a "10" rating to DAK2 and Love everything ASL: so your favorite games are in an entirely different "League", gasp (BTW I gave away all those games years ago for free)!

Thanks for trying NR!, sorry it was not a success with you, I'm sure you'll be able to get a good price for it very soon.

This one caught my eye awhile back. Being an ancients-based card driven game, made it appealing. Normally, it would have lingered at level 3, but when I bought Europe Engulfed on Geek Marketplace, the seller had this for a great price and combined shipping, so I threw caution to the wind.
