It doesn't even make sense given the [sketchy] etymology of the term: "my" + "people".

If anything, all of these bits should [following the pattern] be called things like:

"Manimals" for "Animeeples"
"Megetables" for "Vegeeples"
"Menguins" for "Penguineeples"

Etc, etc, etc.

But those sound dumb instead of silly. I'm even a fan of silly, but "meeple" doesn't cut it.
