Ever wanted some new BGG features?

So this is it! Here's our chance please put all the update ideas below and show support for those you wish to be implemented. This is an unofficial list with the hopes that the features with the most support really do get created.

What will happen with these proposals? I do not know. All I know is that without this list perhaps none of these would ever happen or even been thought of.

Also...
I have No-Idea as to the scope of work myself and others propose here nor do I understand the cost involved to do so. I do however know that I would, if possible do the programming and upkeep myself as time permitted. I am no programmer nor IT Technician but I have a job and would gladly donate money toward these features as I know that most of them would make great editions to an already Awesome site. It is my and many others home page and that will not change if these are not added. Thank you Aldie and team for the best website on gaming that without, I may never have had so many great friends or games. As for these proposed features, Please consider.

It's possible that some of these proposals are already features. If so please let me know and I will be eternally grateful.

I will re-order the list periodically to suit popularity

Improved Advanced Search and Collection Filters

All the options for the Advanced Search should also be available as Collection Filters and vice versa. For example, I can currently do an advanced search for games published by year, but not filter on the same in when viewing my collection.

The marketplace needs love!

d10-1 Selling a game takes much longer than necessary, especially after an auction.

My suggestion: A "send invoice" button.

Make the ad, click this button and type in their user name. A message is automatically generated and sent to them that includes the game, price, and preferred payment method. No more manually typing up the ad and sending a link via geekmail.

(The rest of the selling process can also be looked at, but I don't have time for that...)

d10-2 Search through a certain user's inventory

As it is now, if you see something you like from a seller offering shipping discounts you will probably have to manually click through pages and pages of inventory to see what is available.

My suggestion: At least sort alphabetically with shortcut letters at the top. Looking for Caylus? Click the [C]. No more guessing what page the C's start at without skipping to far ahead to the Cr's. You could even pretty this up with box cover art since there may be less items on screen.

Another simple addition is to add a search bar. Looking for Descent? Type it in and hope they have it.

Disclaimer: I might just be incredibly dumb or blind and never found an easier way to do these things.

Meaningful Filtering of Play Stats Data

I can use BGG to record plays, and I often use the Android app to do so. Great! But as a previous poster mentioned, dealing with that data is more than a bit clunky. With lots of clicking and drilling down, I can see the details of a play. I can't, however, filter plays in meaningful ways. I can't see a list of games I played at home or at my FLGS. I can't see how often my SO beats me at Hive, or a list of the people I've played Quarriors! with, or my own win/loss stats for a specific game, or how long it's been since I played a game with my neighbor.

The data's getting collected, but without being able to manipulate it in any meaningful way (except by date, and kind of by game) tracking it feels hollow. I want to be able to easily sort and view play data by location, players and win/loss, which is much more meaningful to me than a chronological list.

Pretty please? kiss

Sometimes I want to have the same poll for multiple games/geeklist items, and the programmer in me wants to just make a generic poll that can apply to all the items. Unfortunately the current system doesn't allow that. So I would like to have generic polls that can be used multiple times without the results merging. Something that would enable a user to do this:
[poll = XXXXX.0]
[poll = XXXXX.1]
[poll = XXXXX.2]
[poll = XXXXX.3]

It would have made this geeklist much easier to make!

Fast Link to Rules

I would really like to see a BGG hosted copy of the rules of a game in English as an easy to find element in the top header of a game.

If the rules of a game exist, they are often found in one of three places:
1) files section - often translated into a non-english language.
2) web links - pointing back to a publisher who may or may not have an easy to navigate interface.
3) buried in a review or news article, maybe

In short, I want to be able to bring up a game in the BGG database and then from that front page, click one time to get to a copy of the rules.

Comparison Searching

I would personally love a comparison search based on our personal ratings for games and interests. A similar example of this can be seen on Amazon or eBay (although eBay tends to fall into "categories" rather than exact subgroups). I personally feel that this would benefit the site in two very specific ways.

First, it would introduce a method to find games that a user may like relatively quickly in a very concise list. Rather than digging through hundreds of games a day and reading thousands of reviews.

Second, it would promote those little heard of games. You know what I'm talking about, those games that were under promoted diamonds among a gargantuan pile of coal.

Reciprocal logging

When I log plays I add the player's BGG user name if I know it. When that person looks at their games played log, however, the play won't appear. I'd really like it if the website copied logged plays from one user to another.

There should be some controls around this. Each user should be able to turn off both giving and receiving of logs if they want. Additionally, each user should be able to edit or delete their copy of a logged play if they want without affecting the original user's log. The way I think about it, a received log would simply mirror the original user's entry up until the point that the second user makes a change. At that point the two become separate and independent.

Game logging is the feature I use most here at BGG and this would add a lot of value both for myself and others. Thanks!

A category for promo items distinct from expansions. There were two promo items for Tantrix which were puzzles which consisted of tiles you could add to a Tantrix set. Unfortunately The puzzle rules did not mention that you theoretically could add the tiles to a Tantrix set, so the pages from these were removed, and the pictures dumped into Beyond the Pale. Meanwhile, every Munchkin doodad gets a BGG page, because SJG knows to include "rules.

A convention/meetup application

I'm interested in seeing an application, perhaps linked with Google Earth, that would allow users/groups to post when and where they are planning a meetup in their area. That way, if a person is travelling and is interested in knowing what/where a game meetup is taking place, they can access this information in an easy way without having to probe the forums and ask, "Is there any gaming going on this weekend in area X?"

Post adventures/lairs on RPGGeek

It would seem that a site like RPGGeek should have a central location where users can post their home written adventures or material that they could release into the public domain or using the Creative Commons license. I think that the RPG community would love to go to the Geek for free adventure material. (I didn't find a list like this one on RPGGeek. If this lists exists over there and I'm posting in the wrong place, then I apologize.)

And, furthermore...

I think tipping of answers in GeekQuestions should be fixed.

3: I would like to be able to filter bookmarks to specific geek sites, currently all bookmarks are in one folder and they cannot be narrowed down.

4: I would like for geekmodders to be able to send videos back to the user who made them to make corrections for spelling, grammar, punctuation, wrong area or wrong language. Currently geekmodders can only approve or deny the video and denying them permanently prevents them from being linked to the item.

5: I would like to be able to provide feedback on Games for Geekgold transactions. Currently there is no recourse for a person who does not receive the item the won, or the item is in a different condition than advertised.

6: I have a lot of subscriptions, I would like to be able to highlight some subscriptions as being more important so they pop when I am looking through them and be placed on the top of the first page.

7: I would like something to be done about the geeklist front page for video game geek and Role-Playing Geek which is currently primarily BGG spillover. Note that I like and enjoy geeklists that combine two or more domains, but there are a lot of board game only geeklists that wind up on Role Playing Game Geek and Video Game Geek.

8: I would like to be able to link videos to platforms on VGG.

9: I would like there to be a pending queue users can access for hardware on VGG.

11: I would like a d20 numbered dice for suggestions that go past 10.

12: Currently video game geek can narrow down to any of the current generation consoles. I would like it to be able to narrow down to any historical console, or for PC games.

13: I would like to be able to submit periodicals and articles on VGG as we can do on RPGG and will soon be able to do on BGG.

14: I would like to easily be able to move links from one quickbar page to another.

When adding players name to logs of plays, user entering plays is automatically added as player 1

When I log my plays I include who played. I have to manually enter myself every time. I would not log a play onto my account if I hadn't played it so it there's no reason for my name not to be there.

Memory of BGG members names in logged plays just as formers locations are currently remembered.

If there is a drop down menu for location of game that is being logged based on previous logged plays, why can't there be one for players? Better yet: autofill.

A Thrift Store/FLGS purchase tracker. When someone thrifts/buys a game, they can log where they made the purchase

There are a lot of thrift stores. Some just sell clothes. Some sell junk. Others are awesome enough to have board games, but it's hard to tell sometimes when you search "thrift store near ______" and it gives you a bunch of places but doesn't really tell you what they might have.

If people logged where they were buying/thrifting games, I think it would A) make more people aware of FLGS [I was in Santa Barbara for 4 years and had no idea we had a gaming shop downtown], and B) would make it clear for other thrifters which thrift stores were worth hitting up for board games.

Ideally, you could pull up either a log for a particular store (to see all the games everyone has found at each individual location over time) AND by game, so you could see which thrift stores a game has shown up in before. Just a thought.

A way to look at a single item on a GeekList without including 24 others. Before it died, my little Acer was getting worn out trying to load some GeekList pages. There should be a link something like this
http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/140327/soloitem/2101593

Have the subscription system use this soloitem instead of putting me on a page with 24 other things. It would reduce overhead at BGG.

All Entries On One Page Option

I'd like the ability to set a global switch so that I can view all Geeklists, forum threads, or whatever else all on one page instead of having to click "Next" or a page number after every so many entries.

A way to mark a game as something you do not want to own

Some games you play out in the field, at a friend's house or convention, and you just never EVER want to play that game again - EVER.

A low rating helps here, but sometimes it's a good game that just isn't your game type.

Currently the WISHLIST has 5 categories, one of which is '5-do not buy', but this can have two reasons... The first is it's a game on your wishlist that you've bought and it's on the way, in a large order or otherwise stuck in limbo. The other reason for this category is the 'not under my roof' scenario, where you really just never want to see this game again.

Having a way to mark ANTI-WISHLIST items, things you really never want to have purchased for you for any reason, would be nice to have, instead of being forced to bastardize the current WISHLIST concept.

Enhanced Sorting Options on Search Results page

I'd love the ability to re-arrange the columns and their sort order on the BoardGame Advanced Search Results Page, and be able to view the items in a different manner than that currently provided in the GUI.

For instance, when doing an Advanced Search for all games published since 2006 and with a ranking of 1-1000, I'd like to sort them by

* 1) DESIGNER (Ascending Order), then
* 2) YEAR PUBLISHED (Descending Order) and then
* 3) RANKING (Ascending Order)

The Designer and Year Published information is not currently exposed on the page, so it would be nice to have capability of selecting these columns (or others) to expose on the page...

I think that having these additional options to re-arrange the SEARCH RESULTS page would be very cool!

Condition Of Trade Game Compulsory

Sometimes the condition of the game you are about to trade for is less then desirable. Especially the older games as some people don't care for their games as you care for yours.

It's not a very glamorous request, but how about Fix the "Link your BGG Account to your Facebook Account" Application?

I'd like to make BGG a part of my Facebook presence, but right now I get an error:

Quote:
Error while loading page from Board Games
Empty response received.

Would it be possible to make this work?
