Welcome to my 7th annual Secret Santa List. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2011 List"

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

Further helpful hints:

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

So I received this game wrapped in bright red paper...and NO, I haven't opened it yet!

But I couldn't help noticing that it's exactly the same same size as my Automobile box, and pretty much the same weight...
So it's a good guess this is what Santa sent me. But I won't know for sure until December 24th.

Thanks Santa!

Dear Santa,

your gifts arrived today. They were nicely wrapped by your elves and since my wife would not let me open them I will give my fellow geeks a picture so they can guess along with me.

Some hints: The bigger one is pretty heavy while the other one is light.
Both have unusual sizes. No standard Kosmos, Lookout, Alea or FFG size.

Thank You very much Santa!

Sorry for the delay.
The big gift was Earth Reborn and took us a better part of Christmas to unpack.

The smaller one was King of Tokyo and has already been played more than a dozen times since Christmas.

Thank You Santa for these awesome games!

At the beginning of this week I received a second message from my Santa telling me that my gift would arrive between November 26th and November 30th. He also revealed his name was Andre.

Today I heard my wife opening the door when someone rang the doorbell. A package had arrived. Since I wasn't expecting my SS-gift I guessed it would be a game I was going to receive through the Maths Trade I participated in (or perhaps my wife had ordered some shoes again ).

But the package was from Amazon and as the door closed I heard some hoofs and I think I saw Rudolph's red nose through the window. Could it be???

My wife opened the package and told me not one, not two, but three wrapped gifts were inside! Whoohoo!! Thanks Santa. And of course thanks to all your reindeers for delivering the gifts early.

The gifts will remain unwrapped untill Christmas, so you'll have to wait to see what I got.

Update 24-12-2012: Today I could finally open my presents, because it's Christmas Eve! I took the three packages out of the box and I could almost instantly see what gifts were inside.

But I still had to tear off the wrapping. I had some help from my son (2 years old) so it didn't take very long.

The big package was 7 Wonders, wow! I've played this game once and been wanting to own it ever since. The two smaller packages were the expansions 7 Wonders: Cities and 7 Wonders: Leaders. I haven't played either one of them yet, but I can't wait to get them on the table!

Thanks Santa!!

Today, when I got home, I had a big envelope waiting for me. It bore the BGG Secret Santa logo, so I was looking forward to tearing into it. This is what I found.

Eager to find out what I would soon be able to delight my wife and friends with, I opened the packages and found the following.

Although it looks like Secret Santa was checking the wrong list to find the Alhambra expansion (to buy, instead of wishlist), I got Braggart out of it, a game I had never even heard of. I have a huge big thank you to send somewhere

Oi! Hands off...
mbmbmbmbmb
I am a difficult Santa recipient. My wishlist is full of difficult-to-obtain, out-of-print stuff, stuff that's not even been published yet, obscure expansions, and titles that are not available in this country. I'm always nice to my Santas though, and say absolutely anything from categories 1-4 will be super. There is a scattering of current titles and I don't want anyone to go to extraordinary lengths to please me.

Santa got about his business bright and early this year with a taunting on the eve of the Exchange being created. He read my blog (very flattering), and picked up on some of my more embarrassing posts over the course of the year. What am I talking about? They're nearly ALL embarrassing.

A few days later, there was a taunt with a couple of hints about what I might get, and a subtle hint that I should play Hanabi with my game group if I wanted my present posting on time. Naturally, I rushed my Artscow version down to the games' club and nearly caused a punch-up: Santa and I had neglected the fact that we REALLY aren't very good at co-operative games.

But Santa was true to his(/her) word, and a lovely shiny red parcel was waiting on my doorstep tonight.

I cracked it open and was delighted to see - yes - fully FIVE parcels. Look!

(packaging materials removed for clarity!)

Of course, having kept my word to Santa, I will be keeping them safely wrapped until Christmas Day, won't I?

HELL NO!!!

Let's have a little peek inside that diddy one on top, shall we? Santa had already dropped a little hint about this one, and I can't think of many other games that small, so I wasn't too surprised to find...

Yes, Love Letter, the smash filler from Essen.

Oooh, go on then, what about this next one down...

Laaahhhvely. Brings my Pocket Battles collection right up to date. Call me a philistine, but I'm going to set the Persians up against the Orcs first!

Hmm...these two boxes are surprisingly similar. Might they be in some way related?

I think they might! That's More Buildings Big And Small, AND the Belgium Deck, both hot off this year's Essen press (which would be a Pressen, no?)

Let's just sit aside and think how awesome Santa is. None of the last three games has ever been available in the UK Marketplace, and none of my favourite games retailers has had them in (until possibly very recently). But yet (s)he has somehow obtained them all, in English editions - I am in awe of the research that has gone in.

And there's still one more packet to unwrap. A little tweak of the corner reveals...some leather? A book? Is it a book? I can't remember asking for any books.

But, no, it's not a book. But it is a game disguised as a book...

Santa strikes again! Proving not only that the old ones are the best, but that my Santa is too the best. This game has NEVER been officially sold in this country, and yet he snaffles me up a pristine 40-year-old edition. I think I may have to pinch some nitrile gloves from work before even handling the components, such is the reverence I have for this long-wished-for treasure.

Another great move by Santa, by the way, was buying lots of small games and expansions. (S)he must have read I was very short of shelf space and bought me lots of stuff to stash inside other boxes. Plus, I can disguise Mr President as a book!

If only I knew who my Secret Santa was so I could thank them. But that's why they're Secret I suppose. But I did come agonisingly close - throwing the postage box into the recycling, I noticed that Santa had filled in the return address label! But, as many of you will know, we're suffering torrents of rain here at the minute, and it was smudged and unreadable.

Psst! Thanks Charlie - you are totally awesome!

Dear Secret Santa, you are the best!

Got home tonight to find a large parcel waiting with my neighbour, your elves are spot on with their deliveries.

Rushed inside, opened it and I am humbled by your kindness & generosity!

Found three items inside, one I was allowed to open now, another to be opened on Christmas day and an advent calendar.

So I opened the largest, Agricola! My main wish time item, THANK YOU! Amazing!

The other will not be opened till Christmas day (promise!) but the wife did open it slightly and re-sealed to make sure no one else would buy it for me!

Thank you again for you wonderful gifts,

Have an amazing Christmas!

Thanks,
Gareth

And more more...

After destroying everything in the box, I finally had to ask them to find the game! Notice her reluctant smile? And finally I get my first sneak peek at what Sanata sent me!

WOW!!!!

THANK YOU Santa! I have longed for this game for so long and could never bring myself to buy it! I cannot wait to get it on the table!!!!

I got a card that I needed to pick up a parcel from the post office. Santa tells me he had a "chimney fail".

I wander down to pick it up, bring it home and discover two wrapped games!

I don't know what they are. Santa sent strict instructions not to open them until Christmas. It's going be difficult, but I've given my word.

Looks like this year I got a ninja Santa, as I've had no contact, but today there was a package notification in my mailbox, so I went to pick it up. Since there were no instructions to the contrary, I opened it up and found Android: Netrunner inside! I added this to my list only recently so it's nice to get something really fresh.

Thanks, Santa!

WUHUU!!!

My Secret Santa prepared me that a warm-up gift will arrive in the next week or two. Something that is not on my wishlist. Later there will be a real from-my-wishlist gift.
So, I was very excited waiting for next week but then today my doorbell rang and I thought could this be already Santa´s reindeer express with the warm-up gift? I thought it´s too early but "Yeiih, it´s for me!" and then the parcel carrier said: "The other one is for you, too!". I was very surprised and flabbergasted that everything was for me!
I opened the gifts with Santa´s permission and I discovered as warm-up gift Trajan which wasn´t on my list but I am excited to try this one!

From my wishlist I got
Blood Bowl: Team Manager – The Card Game

and even
Hive Pocket

THANK YOU SANTA!!!

Not only did I get Dominion, but also DVONN and Cold War: CIA vs KGB

I'm really happy with this many great games! I really want to thank my secret Santa for this awesome box of awesomeness!

This is my 2nd BGG Secret Santa Exchange that I've been in and I wasn't dissapointed by my Santa's generosity. Even though this time I got a silent Santa I wasn't too worried (I'm a Silent Santa myself modest)Two boxes arrived today and both were packed with games. Woot!

The first box had 3 nicely wrapped packages inside with a note from my Santa included.

The little red box I can't think of what it could be. As far as I know none of the games on my wishlist is that small. Maybe a free gift from the store? Oooh! Maybe there's money in there!?!

The middle wrapped box I'm guessing to be an expansion for Race for the Galaxy. I figured this as soon as I picked up the box and after reading the note with the clue "Gain prestige destroying Rebels". Very subtle Santa.

The bigger wrapped box I can't figure out. It could be one of a few games I have on my wishlist based on the size of the box. And I'm pretty sure the clue "Hastur" has something to do with it, but nothing is coming to mind atm.

The 2nd box contained 4 unwrapped packages. And judging by what these are my Santa must have realized I like big games that have lots of expansions! laugh

So I got Small World along with 3 expansions: Cursed!, Be Not Afraid & Grand Dames.

As for the wrapped ones, I am making no promises, Santa, how long they will stay wrapped. devil
===

edit:

Well, I withheld myself for as long as waiting until I got home from work. Let's just say that there was a lot of pretty red paper flying around. devil

My guess was correct for the Race for the Galaxy expansion:
Rebel Vs. Imperium.

In fact the "Hastur" clue did indicate something involving Cthulu: Elder Sign.

And the little box is a Booster Pack of The Dark Knight Rises miniatures and includes 1 collectible miniature game piece. I opened it and it is Alfred Pennyworth.

I just have to conclude with: Thank you, thank you, thank you Santa! You went above and beyond anything I ever expected this year. laugh

I hope you and yours also have a great Christmas and New Year!

Thank you so much Santa!

One of the perils of owning a game shop in the UK that runs two games nights a week, is that if we like the look of a game, we'll probably get one "for the shop".

This makes Santa's job especially difficult.

So imagine how excited I was to find a couple of party games that are very difficult (if not impossible) to find in the UK

First up was the one pictured, and the other was

Telestrations

We're really looking forward to trying both of these at Shire Games party night in a few weeks' time (if we haven't before then!)

The only downside was having to pay UPS £28 ($40) to receive the package. Funagain hadn't done anything for Secret Santa - they were just two unwrapped games rolling around in a large box with no packaging to speak of. Luckily they arrived in one piece.

Thanks again Santa! Christmas will be a lot more fun this year!

My Santa is AMAZING. You know those games that you've had on your wishlist for years, but never really hoped to ever get? The ones you just look at wistfully every once in a while? Well, my awesome Santa sent me one of mine! A copy of long-coveted Weykick!

Plus, I didn't have to go through the agony of deciding when to open it, as they just put the shipping sticker right on the Weykick box. My husband woke me up to tell me that I'd gotten a game, and I said it was a surprise from my Secret Santa, and he said that he knew what it was, as it was large and "just the game". I had no idea what to expect, but decided to prolong the suspense by going back to sleep for a few hours (I know, I know, but I'm not a morning person). As soon as I went downstairs, there it was! I immediately opened it and started putting it together.

So THANK YOU SANTA! You're the best! I haven't officially played it yet, but we're having people over tomorrow, so I'm sure it will get broken in quickly.

Spent most of today looking at this geeklist. I also ordered my gift for my target, so I was in a festive mood to begin with.

I just returned home to find a box waiting for me...and Santa had warned me that this was going to happen soon!!

I opened it to find Thunderstone Advance and one other game:

And my Santa revealed himself to me...and I didn't know it at the time, and maybe he didn't either, but we actually spoke at BGG.con!

THANK YOU SO MUCH AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

wow this looks fun!

This is my first time joining in with Secret Santa.

My secret Santa has been *amazing* jogging me along with questions about what I might like and why I'd like it, whether I'd be happy with used games. What attentiveness.

I had never heard of this game but I opened it this morning and it looks great. Also I've now reached the point where I think my Santa knows what I'm going to like better than I do, so I'm just dying to try it.

I just found a package from my Secret Santa containing two gifts when I came back from work. I'll open them tonight when my friends come for a game night. According to a previous message I might get a second package by the mail but I'm really super enthusiastic with two games. This is already more than I was expecting.

Big thank you Secret Santa,

Benjamin

Update: When my friends arrived they were surprised to see gifts on the table but were excited to hear there was some new games to play. The first one was Brass and I was really happy since it's an awesome game. I knew the rules were a bit too complicated to learn on the spot so I opened the second gift that contained Dominion: Prosperity. That was really nice since we only had to quickly read the new rules to go straight into play.

We did a first game with Prosperity cards only and there was only big casting costs but we got wealthy quickly and spent it almost aimlessly at all the new expensive cards.

We then played two more games mixing with the core game to digest more easily the new cards. One game had super engines running and the other one was full of curse and was pretty slow.

It was really fun to play with this expansion and I'm eager to play more. I'm going to learn Brass rules and hopefully I can play soon maybe tomorrow You got the games in French and wrote me a nice letter, I'm really glad for the efforts you made. I even discovered an online shop I didn't know with many French games.

I had a blast with your gift. You're a generous person Santa. Thank you.

UPDATE II

Just coming back from a night at the FLGS there was an envelope on the treshold of my door. Inside was a Cribbage book I was looking for but I'd given up since it's out of print and I couldn't find an affordable copy. I never expected I would receive this gift.

You are amazing, you went above and beyond your duty so I award you the BoardGameGeek Secret Santa Medal of Honor.

When I came home I was already quite happy. Friday and I got out from work two hours earlier than I should've. When I opened the door, I noticed a weird letter. From Netherlands, weird... After opening it, I saw a postcard with a picture of Minnesota on it. What!?

Well, I had gotten a warning from my secret Santa, that I would receive three packages, two small and one big so now it started being clear. Santa! After turning the card around, I found Mr. Louis and a greeting from Santa's Tiny Elf, thank you! I was hoping to get Louis when I bought Cities but Lautapelit.fi didn't have it yet so I had buried the hope, but now I has it! Amazing!

After getting past this feeling, I saw another letter. It was a notice from postoffice that I had gotten a package. I didn't have to think who this was from as I guessed it was from Mr. Secret Santa! I ran to the post office and received a package. This was the big one!

Santa had told me that I should open the big one with my friends on the last gaming night before Christmas. And that it should be gift wrapped. This is not gift wrapped! So...I can open this, right? Well, I did!

What!? Two games! Did I open too much? Well, it's too late now! Time to start guessing... What if we compare the boxes to Dominion for example...

The bigger is not as wide, but longer. When...uh...accidentally shaking the box I hear some bits and pieces and most likely a board. The other one I wasn't expecting to get has no pieces and there's like one big pack inside. Deck of cards? I don't know and I'm not supposed to open 'em yet!

Here's what I've gotten SO FAR and one MORE package should be on way! Very very generous and extremly nice! I'm itching to open them, but...I must resist.

---

LAST GAME NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

We had it! It might have been a sad day, probably the last game night this year, but we had something to look forward to! The gifts Secret Santa sent us!

I was supposed to start with the smaller package first (I like to start slow and work towards the Grande Finale...) but I had been waiting for so long! I just couldn't wait any longer. I ripped the package open and oh my! What did I find? Power Grid: The First Sparks!

Power Grid: The First Sparks

I had Power Grid on my wishlist with text that my gaming group isn't ready for it yet. I didn't even know this game existed! 6 players, ~1 hour playtime, perfect game weight for our group and A LOT of custom meeples! Awesome!

Well, I always want to read the rules through and play by myself before teaching and introducing a game to our group but I really couldn't wait to get it on the table and if I didn't I would've probably been forced to!

Well, that part didn't go that well. The rules were a little hard to grasp and we probably made few mistakes. We played for about two hours and kept realising that we've made mistakes and had many big questions on what to do in different situations. We decided to stop our learning game here and try again next time when I've read the rules better. (Now I've been reading the BGG entry and found out why the english rules are a bit hard to understand but with help of BGG I think I have now understood everything! )

Some good news though... The frustration when you're playing a game wrong and don't know what you're doing wrong sometimes makes you ditch a game for a while. Did it happen this time? Nope! Everyone is so excited about the game that we probably will have an extra game night this week just to get Power Grid: The First Sparks on the table again!

We closed the night with a friendly game of 7 Wonders (Louis was hiding in the Leaders deck and didn't want to come out yet. I guess he's a bit shy...) and decided to open the last gift as a closing for the game night so we wouldn't be drawn to play the game and suffer the same fate as with First Sparks.

What did we find? Timeline!
Timeline

Dangit! A game that we could have played as I've heard it's very quick to learn and fun! laugh Well, good that we'll have a chance to try it later this week!

On top of the 7 Wonders Promo, Power Grid: First Sparks and Timeline I also received a letter on the same day as our gaming night. It had a Hobbit stamp and a poststamp from...NEW ZEALAND! What the heck!? I'm totally confused... What about Netherlands? What about Minnesota? What is all this? Why did the envelope have elephants on it!?

If I had gotten any clues about there being a last riddle to solve I'd be sure it was this but I think Santa just wants to make me feel confused! After getting over this I opened the letter and found I beautiful dark blue bag with letters NZ and cool pattern on it. My Carcassonne tiles flew straight in it as I only own Carcassone + the first expansion and never had a decent bag to hold the tiles in. I've been searching for a nice bag for them but I don't have to anymore as now I've got an unique one, mwhaha!

Once again, thank you, thank you, thank you Santa! Amazing gifts and best thing is I now have a game I think we'll absolutely love that I had NEVER heard of before! You pwn!

PS. And if you think there really is a riddle you really need to help me! Too bad this is now in middle of all the other Santa entries so there will probably be no help for me!

Good morning, Angels.
mbmbmbmbmb
So, my Secret Santa kicked things off by asking me to update my profile with some board game, movie, and Christmas related info. After obliging, I received another message informing me that I had a gift from my list loaded in the sleigh along with a surprise, chosen based on my profile information indicating my affinity for deckbuilding games.
Today, the FedEx elf dropped of this large item:

Within, I discovered:

A game plucked from atop my 'Must Have' list. An incredible choice, Santa! This is a game I have been excited about since first reading about it. But, as promised, the packing peanuts held an unexpected surprise as well:

!
Again, well played, Santa! Though it was not on my wishlist, I have since watched some reviews and read the rules, and this game is definitely the type of game I enjoy.
Going the extra mile to find a gem of a game I overlooked, not to mention one tailor-made to my tastes, makes you a truly magnificent Secret Santa! Thank you so much for the thoughtful and generous gifts. They will make perfect additions to my collection and have made this Christmas a special one, indeed.
I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, and I hope your Secret Santa is as spectacular to you as you were to me.

P.S. Santa, I have updated my avatar as a sort of 'finale' to the inside-joke exchange from the last few messages.
