Welcome to my 7th annual Secret Santa List. For those of you who are new to the list:

I run this list as a central location to let your Secret Santa know when your (hopefully much appreciated) gift has arrived.

Use this list to record what your Secret Santa sent you and remember to include any comments such as thanks that you want to give your Secret Santa. When you post on this list, you may want to make a note on your profile with a link to your entry so your Secret Santa can easily locate your confirmation of delivery and your reaction. That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be released!

Please only make an entry when you actually receive the present! This assists those of us who read the list regularly as recipients are adding their gifts in a chronological order. No placeholder entries, please.

I find it very handy to put a link on your profile page so your Secret Santa knows where you have posted the feedback so s/he doesn't have to sort through 2000 entries to find yours quickly.

To see all previous years' editions of this list and to give the new Secret Santa participants an idea of how this works, look at these links:

"2011 List"

"2010 List"

"2009 List"

"2008 List"

"2007 List"

"2006 List"

Further helpful hints:

IMPORTANT - When you get your gift(s), take the time to "Add Item" to this GeekList rather than place a comment at the bottom of the list. This helps the statisticians out there.

A good example of how to make an entry containing multiple gifts is located at: this entry.

Making an actual entry will also make it easier for your Secret Santa to locate your Item.

If you would like to taunt your "target" while maintaining your secret identity, you can do so using the Santa logon. Just log yourself off and close any BGG windows (if you don't you take the chance of being discovered if the new username doesn't take) and log on using this info:

Username: santa
Password: password

I hope you have a terrific holiday season and enjoy the list!

As I was on my way out the door last night, I was informed that a package had arrived for me that afternoon. Could this be my Secret Santa package?

Arriving home later in the evening, I opened it to find *FOUR* wrapped presents, plus some Cadbury chocolate added by the game store!
surprise

Santa's last communication told me not to peek, so I suppose these shall remain wrapped until Christmas.

I've sized them up and shaken them a bit, but I haven't the foggiest notion of which games they might be. Santa appears to have done a good job at keeping me guessing!

Any ideas? To give an idea of scale, the large white box is the same size as Ticket to Ride.

Thank you, Secret Santa! I look forward to opening these up!
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones!

mb mb mb

Edit: The gifts have been opened!

Promos and out-of-prints and expansions, oh my! Santa did a stellar job!

I decided to start by opening the smallest box first, which turned out to contain The Werewolves of Miller's Hollow Special Edition. I wasn't even aware that this edition existed. The version that I've seen at my FLGS comes in a much smaller box, so the size gave me no hints whatsoever. I've considered buying it a number of times, so Santa made a great choice.

Opening the next package, I was surprised to find a copy of the out-of-print Modern Art. This Knizia classic was high on my wishlist, but being out of print, I had no expectation that Santa would track it down. I look forward to breaking this out with my lunchtime group in the new year!

I had no idea what to expect in the largest box. Several games on my wishlist were of similar size, so it really could have been anything. Much to my surprise, it turned out to be a game that wasn't even on my wishlist: The Cave. I had been following this item on BGG for some time, and it was on my "Want To Play" list. Somehow, Santa must have known it really should have been on my wishlist instead. I'm not sure how he figured it out.

But wait, there's more! Packaged inside the shrinkwrap was the 12-tile promo, The Cave - Additional cave tiles expansion!

The final item, which I had originally expected to be some sort of promo or mini-expansion, turned out to be... some sort of mini-expansion: Small World: Cursed! My boys enjoy playing the copy of Small World that we won at an event, and were thrilled to see this expansion.

As if this weren't enough, Santa has told me to expect another package in January!

Thank you, Secret Santa! You've outdone yourself!

I had received messages from my Santa stating things were pretty hectic up at the North Pole, so he/she wanted my help to spread holiday cheer in my area. I was told there would be a task accompanying each gift, and, should I choose to accept them, I could open each gift once the task was completed.

Of course I was up for the challenge! Fast forward to today. The FedEx man shows up with a mysterious package. I knew it was from my Santa as I wasn't expecting anything I had ordered and immediately the Mission: Impossible theme (being hummed by Burl Ives no less) started playing in my head.

I tear open the box to find several wrapped packages.

Hmmmm what's this? It's a card with the sigil of House Stark wearing a Santa hat, and it says "Christmas is coming" Task #1: Inside the card is a message from Santa. My first task is to spend time with friends and family and do some gaming! I happened to have friends coming over this very evening for a weekend full of gaming, so I consider that task completed! and I unwrap the gift to find...

Santa said the title of this item was very fitting for the task. I'd have to agree.

The next item I find is another card attached to a small festive bag. Task #2! The card suggests I bake up some cookies and give them to someone who may be in need of some extra holiday cheer this season. It so happens that my family owns several rental properties. This next week we are going to bake up a batch of Christmas cookies for every tenant we have! (16 in total, that's a lot of cookies!) And inside the small festive bag is a Meeple-shaped cookie cutter, and it will definitely be used! Very cool. With task #2 came 2 more packages. "gift 2a & 2b". I open gift 2a to find a box of shortbread cookies! I like me some shortbread and these will get shared and devoured with hot chocolate! Next is the much bigger Gift 2b. I tear open the wrapping paper to find a copy of...

Ohhhhhh yeahh. One of the games at the top of my wishlist. I played Dune as a wee lad with some of the very friends that are coming over this weekend. This will bring back a lot of memories for myself and them too. Great pick Santa!

Finally I find a piece of paper with another short message and a Task #3 label! I open it to find a Christmas Tree shaped maze, but the cool part is there is a hidden message that gets spelled out as I complete the maze. The message is as follows:

"The title of your last game is synonymous with the word 'maze', and your final task is tied to this term. The final way to spread a bit of holiday cheer is by doing something amazing for someone. As I mentioned before, I really do believe that simple acts can have a major impact on others. So this doesn't need to be anything big and dramatic. Just do something to make someone's holiday season a bit brighter. Now with that out of the way, all that's left is to get out of this maze."

Couldn't have said it better myself. Words everyone should live by all year long, and not just the Holidays!

So with my final task completed I unwrap the final gift to find...

A maze that leads to a Labyrinth! Perfect! My Santa did very very good. I can't wait to tear into all these great games! A very big thank you to my Secret Santa, I hope your holidays are as special as you've made mine!

I always put a note in my Secret Santa profile that although I realize most people will use the convenience of an OLGS, my preferred FLGS is Out of the Box games in Zeeland, MI. This year my SS ordered from them, and although I had to endure some taunting from the owner of the store the few times I was in there before my gift was ready, I'm very happy with the results!

Dungeon Fighter will be a big hit with my kids, I'm excited to play it.

I also received:

K2: Broad Peak

which I am also very grateful for. Thanks so much!

Santa you are so awesome. I received a long brown shipping bag from overseas today. My postal lady said what a strange package and from overseas too.....not having any idea what it was I opened it up.

Inside was a beautiful vinyl mat to play Star Wars X-Wing on. It looks just like the mat on the custom Geek Chic tables I have seen. Better yet, it has a sticky back that I can peel off and mount it on a thin piece of wood.

This mat is over 36" wide and 7' long. My son and our friends love playing massive X-wing battles.....but we play on the boring kitchen table. Funny we were just discussing where we could find a mat or fabric or something.

I need to take a picture and post. Beautiful.

Thanks Santa you are AWESOME!!

ps...I love having a mat and terrain when playing miniatures this is so perfect! Santa emailed to tell me this is a real image from an European observatory of the Chandra Deep Field South. I love star watching so this makes the map evening more awesome.

The mysterious package arrives with a return address from the North Pole. What could it be?

Thank you Santa!

In keeping with tradition during this traditional time of year, I must break out into Song -- this one to the tune of The Gloucestershire Wassail (or simply, "Wassail! Wassail!).

Wassail! wassail! all over the town,
Our toast it is white and our ale it is brown;
Our bowl it is made of the white maple tree;
With the wassailing bowl, we'll drink to thee.

So here is to Ireland (or is it France?),
Don't know how to Bourree, can't Riverdance,
But I can cut peat and burn it for fuel,
With my wassailing bowl as my right hand tool!

I've got my good eye on that coastal plot,
Just need one more gold, and it will be bought,
The mutton and coal are in place at last --
That blue building's coming up awfully fast...

So here's to my Cloister, a good source of cash,
(These church buildings spread like incurable rash!)
My prior, he labors and prays and anoints,
And transduces goods for victory points!

Here's to the player who next spins the wheel -
Don't take what I need, or my wrath you will feel;
If I fall behind, well, my threats may seem lame,
But I will get even when I meta-game!

So Santa, I thank you for blessing my wall
With a game whose main theme is to make alcohol!
May God bless your gaming, be happy and free,
With my wassailing bowl, I'll drink to thee!

Thank you again, Santa!

The story of Santa

I was pretty sure I had a strong silent Santa (nothing wrong with that!) so I wrote comments on my wishlist for him and waited happily. But in the end, I did receive a note from the man himself!

Quote:
Subject: important info

Ho! Ho! Ho!
Dear Julia,

I am sending you warm greetings from North Pole. I was informed that you were quite good this year and thus you will receive gift.

Elves has already prepared something in our factory and my reindeers should be able to deliver it soon.

We all hope that you will enjoy our gift and will have good time with it.

Please let me know once you receive it (through your profile and respective geeklist)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to both you and your family.

Your Secret Santa

A week later my present arrived! I'm not sure when my Santa wants me to open it, but I'll wait until the start of Christmas vacation, in any case!

I'm pretty curious how that Secret Santa sign got onto my package! As far as I know Milan Spiele didn't have a Secret Santa special. Mysterious....

Update:

My boyfriend tried to secretly open my Secret Santa package while I wasn't paying attention!!!! Bad, bad boyfriend.

I got a mail from Santa!

Quote:
Dear Julia,
I am happy that you have received our package.

Feel free to open it when you feel so, no need to wait till Xmas.

Otherwise you should not be surprised to see that Santa is able to mark it as Santa gift even thought his Milan-Spiele workshop does not offer it regularly :-)

Wish you all the best and will look anxiously towards your report of unwrapping and if you find content of package worthy addition to your collection and hope you do not mind coal (well sorry for spoiler)
Regards your Secret Santa

Do you think my Santa works for Milan-Spiele? surprise

It seems my Santa is as excited to see my package opened as I am! I told him I would wait until saturday afternoon to have better light for pictures and videos. cool

Yay! I got to open my present today! Expert videographers that we are, we decided to immortalize the event:

I got Through the Ages:a story of civilization AND a copy of Onirim! This is incredibly awesome!!! Thank you so much, Secret Santa!! I'm so lucky to be your target!! kiss

Edit: My Santa sent me a pretty christmas card from the Czech Republic, giving me a hint about his or her identity but not enough to actually find him! Who is this mysterious person and how does s/he put stickers on Milan Spiele Boxes!!

My BGG Secret Santa is all the way from Germany. After a little fun banter back and forth, he told me my first package was on the way.

I received it today and ripped it open as per his instruction. Finding it was the Spielbox 2011 #1 magazine. Not dawning on me that this was the 7 Wonders Manneken Pis edition! The board is still shrink wrapped.

I actually got super excited...then I noticed there was a card insert tucked in with the magazine..

It also contained the Stevie and Esteban cards that I've been trying to track down! My 7 Wonders collection is now completed! I'm way more excited than I could ever possibly express.

On top of that he's sent a message saying package 2 was almost ready and package 3 was in the works!

Far and wide way more than I could ever ask for! Thank you so much Santa! I'm proud to be able to tell anyone who asks how awesome you are

Despite shipping errors and living half way across the world, I got Santa's gift for me and wow is it awesome! Can't wait to break this one out.

... and the Lost Legion expansion as soon as it's available. Sweet!

So, like many of you I've had a most excellent Secret Santa -- very inquisitive indeed, and quite thoughtful in perusing my likes, dislikes, and even my interactions with others and the sorts of games that I'm able to get to the table with friends.

I'm truly amazed at just how much effort went into selecting gifts, and really appreciate the above-and-beyond effort.

Awesome stuff!

Here's some pics of me receiving the gift... opening it... playing with the minis... and preparing to eat the "do not eat" saline freshness pack. 'Cuz that's how I roll.

Thanks so much, Santa, you're the bestest!

As a side note, this was apparently my Santa's first year in the gift exchange... so, whomever you are, welcome to the tradition -- it's one of my favourite things, so I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I have!

My Secret Santa sent me two boxes and while one arrived in the morning - the other was supposedly ripped open - and was brought in during the afternoon. After signing a receipt stating that the package inside was undamaged I proceeded on opening it. This one was accompanied by a nice postal card with some handwritten text by my Santa. Inside the first box was Puerto Rico - a game I was looking forward to get for quite a long time and in the other came:

Wonderful! And both in perfect condition despite the postal service care.

So all I can say is that I hope my Secret Santa received something at least has nice as I received and that he has the most wonderful Christmas! Mine will already be better due to his sympathy! 5vp meeple

Thank you, Santa!
Clearly, you're the strong, silent type!

My Santa sent me both the LotR LCG AND Castle Panic

My fiancee is super excited for Castle Panic... She's weary of the learning curve for the LCG, but she'll get into it soon enough, I'm sure.

Thanks again, mystery Santa - it's going to be a fun gaming Christmas!

Merry Christmas and/or other observations, everyone! I'm happy to have a new holiday tradition to look forward to each year.

I received this a couple weeks ago, but only gave into the temptation to open the shipping box tonight. I am glad I did, because there was a mystery hidden within! Go to http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/149482/item/2420141#item24... to try to solve it.

Santa also sent along the Stash and Governor promotional cards for Dominion, which we are very appreciative of.

Thanks for a great Secret Santa experience and a new game to learn.
