Council of Five Nations 29 - What games did you get in on?

The Schenectady Wargamers Association held their 29th Annual convention this weekend. The convention was back in a hotel after several years in the comforts of Studio. Over 200 attendees took part in close to 100 game events over the course of the 3 days and 7 game slots. It was a successful year of growth for the SWA and will hopefully lead to bigger and better things to come. Feel free to add which games you played to the list...

Started off my gaming with the Friday night Revolution event. The game was full and had two new players, so I GM'd the game until replacing the Reformers player who had to leave early. I took detailed notes for the time I was GM in the hopes of getting the time to write a Session Report, but the details of the last two Turns are not as complete due to my involvement in the game.
Final Standings: Habsburgs (1st), Reformers, Catholics, Burghers, Nobility (5th)
By the end of the convention, I had received several requests to run Revolution at our upcoming Gameathons by those who had played in the event as well as those who wanted to but were unable to make it. |

Saturday night, I got into the History of the World game. I had been wanting to get a chance to finally play this game and enjoyed it a good deal. It was a very social crowd with plenty of lighthearted fun, so I didn't really even notice much downtime.
The winner of the game had Russia in Epoch 7 and won by tiebreaker (lower strength total) over the player who had the United States in Epoch 7. I was about 7 points back in 4th place after having 5 Eurasian nations (Aryans, Scythians, Mongols, Timurids and the Manchus) and only 3 with capitals. |

Sunday morning was Titan on Nick's oversized Deluxe set. I had never played this game either, or even knew much about it before getting involved with the SWA, and enjoyed it very much. Yeah, it is a longer game but that doesn't bother me a bit when you're having fun. Yes, there is significant downtime during large battles, but being a newbie, watching some of the battles helped get a feel for tactics. Also, with the Discount Game Auction going on during many of the bigger battles, there was something else to fill that downtime with besides bathroom breaks.
I ended with the second most points I think, but was far from 2nd place. My 5 opponents were all veterans and most were experts, so I was surprised to still be alive for more than an hour or two. Now, the Colossus game makes MUCH more sense to me.
Nick's Deluxe board uses an oversized map and counters on poker chips. Very well done and easy to use. I can't imagine trying to play it with stacks of cardboard counters all over the place though. |

I was unable to attend friday, but got Saturday started off right with a rousing game of Robo Rally. Always a blast, I kinda came in third out of 8 players... Fun game, and the Maelstom is just EVIL!!!! |

Saturday evening I played World of Warcraft. And having only a limited familiarity with the computer game I was worried I would be in over my head. That was not the case, I enjoyed this game alot. I found the mechanics pretty good, certainly better than Runebound... Anyways, I think I might pick this one up eventually. |

I played a German vs. Greeks scenario in Battlefront. Its currently my biggest obsession and my favoite set of minature rules.
Steve Keyer did a nice job as always. |

I ran Axis and Allies Revised in the Sunday afternoon slot.
It was a tight game, I featured National Advantages and Special Victory conditions and the Axis Powers prevailed with a minor victory. They took 8 of the 9 Victory cities.
Great Job SWA, the convention was a rousing success.
Thanks guys for a job well done. |

Was my first time playing.
We played the shortened version for the convention. I played the Valois dynasty of France. Most of us were 1st timers. It was basicly a learning game.
I'd like to play again. |
