Go easy, this is my first list.

If the title is not self explanatory then please see the following thread http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/140787 which should go part way to explaining it (though it might not help at all).

Please give the name of the Beer/Cheese as well as country of origin. An explanation of why it is so good and a website would be a bonus.

Please, no international brands or mass produced cr*p. Abominiations such as American B*dw**s*r will be deleted out of hand but please also avoid such things as the infinitely superior Czech Budweiser Budvar which most of us will know.

So, what floats your boat and should be floating ours?

Here in Indianapolis we are lucky to have a thriving local food scene. Plenty of microbreweries, of which my favorite is Broadripple Brewpub with their Monon Porter - http://www.broadripplebrewpub.com/

We also have wonderful cheeses available at the local farmer's market and some local shops.

It's not Traders of Genoa exactly, but Trader's Point Creamery has a wonderful aged raw-milk cheese, Fleur de la Terre - http://www.tpforganics.com/new/

Finally, there's Capriole Goat Cheese - http://www.capriolegoatcheese.com/ of which my favorite is Fromage a Trois, a three layered chevre combining basil, pine nuts, and sun dried tomatoes. Any of their chevres will beat the pants off of anything else I've found, imported or domestic, and I used to work in a gourmet cheese shop. I suspect the reason it's so good is precisely because it IS local and therefore insanely fresh, so if you don't live in Indiana, you may be out of luck

So, if you're a food lover, track these down next time you are in town for Gencon Indy!!!

These are really a style of beer, as there's many good ones brewed in and around Cologne, but Dom is one of the best.

Can't have a list about beer without mentioning the Belgian ales from Chimay. Three different beers each with their own character. They make cheese too. And if you're on a budget, Trader Joe's has a seasonal ale that's not a half bad imitation for about 60% of the price.

For those of you who don't have a huge supply of beer money (which, as gamers, is probably more often the case than not), here are a couple of my favorite "budget beers" that won't offend the palate (of course I'm sure most of you have tried these before already):

Sierra Nevada - I've enjoyed all their beers, from the pale ale to the stout. I'm always suprised how good it is for $6 a six pack. Also, if you can find it (not even sure if they still make it), their bigfoot barleywine is awesome!

Red Hook - The ESB I can take or leave, but I really like their IPA...very hoppy! At ~$5 a six pack this may be one of the best cheap beers.

Sullivan's Pond Blue Ridge Belle with Lavendar flowers and grapevine ash. Sort of like some of the goat cheese from central France. Of cousre, not exactly a beer cheese - more of a wine cheese (Sauvignon Blanc or Seyval to be exact).

We have a lot of good Artisanal cheeses here in Virginia.

There use to be a local brewery called Blue-N-Gold here in NoVA; they made a beer called Old Crankcase which had a significant amount of barley in it. Very tasty and it would knock you over - it was close to 12%. I also had a couple of Russian beers when I was over in Khabarovsk a few years back that packed quite a punch (about 12-13% also).

Brooklyn Brewery's Black Chocolate Stout is a delight. Thick and rich with milk and dark chocolate flavors and aromas, but not wimpy like American milk chocolate... rather, this has a nice bite at the end, like hoppy bittersweet chocolate. There's a hint of fruit there as well - maybe dried cherries? I'm no expert, but this is great stuff.

Baltika makes some very good beers. While I'm a fan of darker beers, and their Porter (#6) is decent, their Wheat (#8) is one of my light favorites. Nothing unusual, just a really clean, fresh, wheaty (not the cereal) taste, and not overly-wheaty like Ayinger can be (especially on tap) - though Ayinger in a bottle is funky greatness.
