Proposed yucata.de games
-
This list is intended to discuss possible new games for the gaming website http://www.yucata.de.
If you think YES - I WANT THIS GAME AT YUCATA.DE then give thumbs up to that entry.
Entries with many thumbs up may have better chances to be implemented
If you think you can help yucata.de, just tell me (send me an E-Mail). If you are a .NET-Developer or want to learn the technology you might realize a game of your own. We also have need for someone helping with the images/graphics.
Criteria for games at yucata.de * No player interaction. Trading and actions are usually bad. Veto cards are usually bad, since after each action of each player, each other player needs to be asked if he wants to say 'veto'. * Too many microactions/phases. This is no fun to play as PBW. At least not for most people. * No memory effect: Remember who has taken what, and so on. This does not really work in PBW. This is why Stratego would not be a good option. * Two-player games. The vast majority of games played at yucata.de are two-player-games. I will think a long time before adding a game which does not have a good 2-player version.
I prefer themed Eurogames. This does not mean that I will never add new abstract board games but they are not at the top of my list. 2010-04: I just removed most of the abstracts. There are better platforms for abstract games than yucata.de. 2010-05: I sorted again by number of thumbs. That's a manual and painful process. I also deleted games nobody wanted, games which could not be played with two players, games by Knizia. 2010-09: I sorted again and deleted a few games nobody wanted. 2011-10: I removed a heap of games which don't have any real chance to make it to Yucata. I should delete at least 50 more, but many of the proposed games I still don't know...
The list is becoming pretty long and BGG is missing a sort feature. User Grimwold created a small script to help us out. Sorted by thumbs: http://www.grimwold.org.uk/bgg/yucatalist.php?sort=thumbs Sorted by name : http://www.grimwold.org.uk/bgg/yucatalist.php?sort=alpha
Games which won't make it to yucata.de -------------------------------------------------- Games which didn't convince me enough to bring them online or are too much work or just fell out of consideration for some reason Alcazar, Auf Achse, Babel, Byzanz, Charon Inc., Crows, Dungeon Lords, Fjords, Grand Cru, i9n, King of Tokyo, Kontor, Maharaja, McMulti, Mount Drago, Odin's Ravens, Pantheon, Portobello Market, Nightfall, Sumeria, The Golden City, Titania, Toledo, Troyes, Venedig, Wasabi
Games which are not suitable enough for PBW play Antike, Innovation, Quarriors
Games where we couldn't get permissions Ascension, Atlantis, Caylus, Goa, Hive, Jaipur, Ninja vs. Ninja, Space Station, Terra Nova, The City, Wilderness
Publishers not working with yucata.de -------------------------------------------- Avalon Hill - See Hasbro Days of Wonder - They are putting their games online themselves and are taking money for it. Little chances for a free implementation. Fantasy Flight Games - Nearly impossible to get permissions Filosofia - No permissions Hasbro - Nearly impossible to get permissions. Queen Games - They don't see internet as an opportunity Ravensburger/alea - I removed most games, since it is nearly impossible to get permissions. Knizia Games are also completely excluced, regardless of the publisher. White Goblin Games - They told me that they are currently not interested in online versions of their games. Z-Man - Now part of Filosofia: See above

Quick "worker" placement game.
Quite suitable for the style of game play on Yucata.
Other YSTARI games would work well.

It's a game for 3-5 players, best with 5. It's also already implemented on Spielbyweb, but the UI is very crude.
Now, why this game?
1. Moves are quick and players make them one after another. It needs to be clear, because mechanics list auction/bidding. In fact, it's bidding one after another.
- Players choose numbers (amounts of money to be paid) - Players choose plant-tiles to place on the board. - Players place these tiles on the board - Players choose canals and declare how much they can pay for them
All these actions are executed one player after another.
A canal is placed, some plants survive, some plants rot. It's a simple, pretty abstract game, that I hope would be easy to implement. It's fun, because it's based on observing what other people do.
About it being "best" with 5 players. I don't know about others, but it's hard for me to gather 5 people to play such games (because than other titles, such as Battlestar Galactica are forced). This is why I can only play the Speicherstadt online.

Don't know how easy/difficult it is to get the rights for this but I would LOVE to be able to play it online on yucata.
I also think it is suitable for yucata due to the way each player's actions are played.

Board Game: Eclipse

Oh well, someone had to add it anyway :-)
This one plays like a charm, has 2-6 players, and is as much Euro as it is not. And 2-player is rally good! Combat could be a little difficult to implement (several rounds of rolling dice), but perhaps you could give orders as how to fight and all the combat rounds are resolved at once. But then, combat is was not the main inssue in our games. Even my wife, who really dislikes SciFi played several games with me and likes it.

I have been having a lot of fun with this game recently and think it might be a bit tricky with the sabotage/assist mechanism, but some sort of pre-turn setting of what you want to do should work.

I just found this in kickstarter, quick 2p game. Technically an abstract, but it has an awesome theme. Perfect match for yucata.de

Bruno Faidutti's quick two player game, with a sweet triangular board composed of tiles and varying player powers?

This would be a lot of fun and should mostly work well I think.

A game by Leo Colovoni, author of Carolus Magnus and Masons, which are already available on Yucata, released by Rio Grande.
It's an abstract game, that goes like this:
1. By playing cards matching symbols on the board, you move the Alexander token around (on a triangular grid, similar to that of Masons). 2. You place borders covering his path. This way, you create provinces. 3. You perform actions - by playing cards. You take over provinces - empty, or owned by other players. You pass them some cards, but there are no interruptions during this phase. 4. You collect your reward.
So, territory control, playing cards, collecting sets for executing takeovers. Good with 2,3 and 4 players.
---
I've been thinking about this - this came can be considered a less random version "Masons" (or Mauer Bauer). It shares the concept of "triggered scoring", but what you get depends on what's on the board, not random cards. So I guess it's more fit for "ranked" play.
---
Okay, this is actually better than much more popular (for some odd reason) Masons. I still don't want to play ranked games of Masons, because the game's so random. Masons isn't actually bad - it's just REALLY random. There's much more control in this one. It also works well with 2.

After you submmited Can't Stop I'm thinking myself why not this game that has the same feeling.
Please, come back to the origins and include beautiful and easy abstract games again, they should be way easier to implement than others like A Few Acres of Snow but they are also enjoyable.

Fast-paced card game from the authors of Troyes. No player veto of any kind during turns, so it shoudl be really suited for online play. Event triggering could slow down things if we want to check card activation (not THAT big, I think).
I think, after repeated plays, that it is a little bit heavier than what a first or second play would suggest (around meeple recruiting, mostly). I would also suggest that the advanced rules are the way to go.

Not sure if this would be possible to implement, but the Yucata format would benefit this game tremendously.
The biggest problem in person is the pieces and possible long waits between your turns.
For the events, it could function somewhat like Stone Age where you take your effects on your turn even though it "happened" during another players turn.

I don't get to play this one enough and think it would be a good fit for yucata.

This is, in my opinion the definitive Lord of the Rings game - one of the ultimate 2 player games if you have the time (other than Twilight Struggle), hence it would be perfect for yucata.de's format!
Can also optional be played 3 or 4 player, just by dividing the nations.
Implementation / integration to yucata.de should be helped by the fact that a pretty decent java client exists already, assuming the those developers agree (or better, come on board yucata), but the current client is a bit clunky if you want to play in a non-direct connect way, so would benefit from the "yucata" treatment.
First thing first though... Is this still owned by Fantasy Flight Games or is it now Ares Games? It seems that Roberto Di Meglio at least took his game (WotR) with him when he joined Ares Games, considered they now produced a second edition which is basically the Collectors Edition...
In any case, I think it would be worth the effort to try to get this amazing game into yucata.

How about this adventure game?
I am not sure if there are any niche corners requiring player interaction, but what I gathered from Hello Gregor's videos so far, it is pretty heavily a multi-player solitaire of sorts...
Of course, prove me wrong where I am!

The down side: It's not a good two-player game
The up sides: All players plan and resolve moves at the same time (with the possibility of two players doing short adjustments at the end of each turn). Should be easy to program. Uses colored blocks!

As I checked the list I found someone mentioning some games from Ystari!
So Olympos came to my mind. Not to many actions per game. Interesting choices. Variable and fun timeline-mechanism. This would get a big thumbs up from me

A nice 2-player game. Card-based which may make it easier to implement. Throw a bone to some of the hockey/lacrosse fans

quote:
"There are 121 tiles with 1-6 dots like a standard die or domino (20 of each number plus an extra 1). Players alternately draw and place 2 tiles on the board extending the pattern already laid. When you make a vertical or horizontal line that totals 10, 11 or 12 (12 is the limit), you score 1, 2 or 4 points accordingly on your game pad. Completing scoring lines on the pad gives a rising bonus and covering marked squares on the board gives you a doubling bonuses on your pad."
...easy game, lotsa thinking l8er on! really nice and even faster w/ 2 players.

quote:
"In Takenoko, the players will cultivate land plots, irrigate them, and grow one of the three species of bamboo (Green, Yellow and Pink) with the help of the Imperial gardener to maintain this bamboo garden. They will have to bear with the immoderate hunger of this sacred animal for the juicy and tender bamboo. The player who manages his land plots best, growing the most bamboo while feeding the delicate appetite of the panda, will win the game."
really nice game. gameplay and gfx. should easily fit PBW....
