Discussion Thread is Here!

The original Chain of Generosity is here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/23326/ This list is a continuation.

The Chain has been, and continues to be, an enormous success. Thank you to all the people who've kept it going for over two years!

Boardgamegeek is a wonderful place. The friendly, helpful, generous users here make this one of the best online communities. I want to contribute to that spirit, so I have created the BGG Chain of Generosity.

Here's how the BGG Chain of Generosity (The Chain) works:

Step 1: I will seed the list with a giveaway game. Anyone who wants that game can leave a comment to that effect. After 2 days (on Friday) I will randomly choose (using the random integer generator at random.org) a recipient for the game, and geekmail them to set up shipping to their house.

Step 2: The recipient of the game will then choose a game from their collection (probably from their trade list) and post it as an item here for more people (or maybe the same people) to comment on and enter. After about 2 days (this can vary) they will do a drawing, and a that person will win the game.

Step 3: The new recipient repeats step 2.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

RULES:

1. You must comment to the item in question indicating you wish to be in the drawing to recieve it in order to be eligible to win.

2. If you win one, you MUST post a game of your own to give away in this fashion. If you don't like that idea, don't play.

3. In the unlikely event that no offers are made on your game by 48 hours after posting, try a different game in its place.

4. If you wish to start a second (or third, or fourth) chain, post an item to the geeklist and put "SEED" in bold in the description. For those later in the chain, identify which chain your game belongs to.

5. Sender pays shipping, unless he indicates in his entry that the recipient will and under what grounds (International shipping, etc). Anyone signing up to receive an item where recipient pays shipping agree to do so.

Pretty simple rules, eh?

Other Considerations:

The game you post should be one that most of the BGG community might want to have. Ideally, one on your trade list. The dual-purpose of this list is to spread goodwill and give unliked games a good home.

You can win multiple times. Just keep in mind each time you win a game you'll be giving another one away.

CARD GAME CHAIN!!!

No it isn't Deja Vu! I was only looking for the Management Material part of the offering I won. So two of the three I won are back up for the chain.

So you get:

New-in-shrink copy of Saga.

You will also get:

This opened but never used copy of Dead Hand Chaos Poker

and

Instead of Management Material you will get your choice between:

Guillotine,

or

Take the Train,

or

Mad Magazine Card Game

All of these last three are thrift copies but are complete although the Mad Magazine has copied rules, and Take the Train has some box damage.

I will pick the winner using a d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 as needed or hopefully will have to use a random number generator.

I will close the entries at 11:00 PM (Eastern) on October 2.

Good Luck!

Edited to add some links and an image.

Further edited to add more images

Ok, My Nephew just rolled a 3 so pmagnus is the winner! Send me your address and your winnings will be on their way! Your recorded choice as the addition is Guillotine,so it shall be yours.

It's time for the CHEAP CHAIN!!

I apologize for stealing the Mystery Box chain thunder, but I am offering up a box of mystery games and gaming type items from my collection of crap in my house.

If you win, I will try and pick stuff that you will like, judging from your collection and your account info, but I cannot guarantee anything - this is, after all, the Cheap Chain.

I can guarantee however, that you will get at least a couple of games in the box (most likely more) and that said box will be filled to the brim.

I will let this one run for the obligatory couple of weeks before you get to see my daughter draw a name from a hat and choose the winner.

Thanks for your interest!

*wow* lots of interest here. You people do realize that this is going to be a box of crap right? I mean there may be a decent game in there somewhere, but for the most part you are getting a big box of my leftovers...

EDIT - I will draw the winner sometime tomorrow night, so if you are on the fence on this you got a little less than 24 hours.

Egad - sorry for the wait.

The name my daughter drew from the hat is...

*** FULL CIRCLE CHAIN ***

Thanks to bill_andel for starting this chain! Thanks to Mike for my Monsters Menace America win on my birthday!

OFFERING "C" Complete and in great shape. In looking at some of the pictures in the gallery I feel compelled to note that this is not the version with plasic Cave Troll figures. Mine only has Cave Troll counters.

I am going to add an old copy of Rook to this. I am doing this because further back in the generosity chains I had an offering soliciting picks from my collection listed in order of preference and Bill had listed Rook as third. I find I still can't bear to part with the first two but I will put up this copy of Rook. It was picked up at an antique store and has a sticker on it that indicates it is from 1943. The box shows shelfwear but not as much as I'd expect for the age. It also has grease pencil. The cards are in great shape for their age. The green 11 has some damage but it is on the number side rather than the back so there aren't any marking concerns.

Shipping only to continental US, for which I will cover all costs.

DEADLINE:

I will keep the list open until sometime on October 16th. I will use RANDOM.ORG to determine a winner, and notify on this list & by GM.

THE RULES:

1. The Full Circle Chain continues until its originator (bill_andel) replies to an item with the comment "Full Circle!" prior to the deadline date for that item. The originator then becomes the winner of that item, rather than the winner being chosen by random selection.

2. If the originator does not claim "Full Circle!", the winner must be selected using random.org with the time-stamped output appended to the decription of the item offered.

3. If the originator of the chain has claimed any of the last five items at the time he or she claims "Full Circle!", he must re-seed the chain and the chain continues. If the originator has not claimed any of the last five items in the chain, then the chain may be closed at the discretion of the originator.

Example 1: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C, winner of C offers D, winner of D offers E. Originator claims "Full Circle!" for item E and closes chain. (If originator does not claim "E", he or she could claim any offering thereafter to close the chain.)

Example 2: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C. Originator claims "Full Circle!" for item C and MUST provide item D to continue the chain. (Originator will not be able to close chain until at least item H.)

4. Offerings shipped to the continental US only.

5. Winners must provide the next offering within 7 days of winning. Items should be offered for a period not to exceed 14 days. If an item receives no interest within 7 days, the offering should be modified or replaced (which restarts the "not to exceed 14 day" period).

6. These rules must accompany each offering in the chain. All offerings in the chain must be lettered "A", "B", "C", etc. If "Z" is reached, continue with "AA", "BB", etc. All offerings must include the date on which the winner will be selected.

From the thread's creator, bill_andel:

This is the third chain I've started (the others being the Grouch Chain and the Consolation Chain). I'd like to ensure I get as good as I give (thus the "Full Circle!" claim), but without being too greedy about it (thus the five items rule). I'd like to be sure that chains do not stagnate (hence the time limits), that winners are chosen fairly and transparently (hence providing output from random.org) and that noone gets stuck with an unplanned overseas shipping expense (hence the CONUS only shipping). YMMV. This rationale is not required to be reproduced with any other offerings in this chain.

Good luck to all!:

Well unexpected grandson sitting made this selection a little later than I had wanted but it is still Friday for a minute or two. A coin flip resulted in heads so tawnos76 is the winner. Send me your address and I will send your winnings on their way. Congratulations

TIME TO SHARE THE LOVE!!

Rules for the Share the Love Chain:

1. The person posting a Share the Love chain item must offer 2 packages. Each package must contain at least one game, but may contain multiple games or a game and other items.

2. One package is pre-designated the "Chain" Item. The second package is the "Giveaway" item. When the winner is drawn, 2 drawings are made.

The first drawing is the entrant who gets the "Chain" package, and will post the next item in the chain. The second drawing entrant gets the "Giveaway" package. The winner of the Giveaway package does not post a chain item: They simply get their giveaway package for free!

3. All entrants have an equal chance of being selected for either item. An entrant may be asked only to be drawn for the Chain item, but may not ask to be entered only for the "Giveaway" package.

4. No entrant may win both the Chain and Giveaway package, unless they are the only entrant.

5. Entrants must indicate their interest by commenting "I'm in" or similar. Thumbs do NOT count as valid entries.

6. If the Share the Love chain makes it back around to me (unixrevolution), I have the option of closing it off for good.

7. Because microbadges are only awarded to users who have given a game away, winners of "Giveaway" packages will not recieve microbadges (though if you already have one, I won't take it away )

The Chain item is Scotland Yard (the version pictured) complete, and Battleball (complete)
The Giveaway item will be an in shrink copy of Pizza Box Football.

Drawing for winners will be held in one week - Monday, October 19.

Card Game Chain

The chain rule is that the offering must be a card game. The recent pattern includes some pay-it-forward deja vu.

With those factors in mind, I'm offering all of the following items. All are complete and in good to mint condition.

Ever Green (pictured)
Battle Cattle: The Card Game
Dead Hand Chaos Poker
Decktet

This particular Decktet is professionally printed on nice stock. The cards have a pastoral image of the Russian village of Suzdal on the back. I won't be making any more in this style, so it's a singular item.

I'll draw lots in about two weeks, more or less.

I rolled my trusty d5, and the winner is...
Robin Goblin.

To me, nothing says geek like fantasy. So up on the block is this opened-yet-unpunched copy of Prince of Chaos: Battle for Tae Orn.

And, to prove no one is 100% geek, I am adding some non-geeky (not as geeky?) card games, Mystery Rummy: Jekyll & Hyde and Guillotine.

I am out of town next week, so i will let this run until the 24th or so.

random.org says 7, so the winner is Peter Loop.

It's time for The Cheap Chain! Thanks to UndeadViking and his daughter Rilyn for selecting me. I can't wait for the chance to open up the cheap box of mystery.

Now it's my turn. I have several old gems from the past that I just don't have the time or inclination to play anytime soon.

The Very Clever Pipe Game

StarGate

Magus

File 13

In the interest of full disclosure, I will state that StarGate was missing two counters when I acquired it. I have replaced them with hand lettered counters from the stash of blank SPI counters that I have accumulated over the years. I will let this run until the 27th and pick a winner at that time using random.org.

Well, no takers yet, ,so I will add another game to the offer. Here is a Print & Play I just finished putting together. (I was testing out the new color laser printer at work.)

Oh No, There Goes Tokyo!

How odd, that should say; "Oh No, There Goes Tokyo!" Anyone know who we should report that to?

I will let this go until the 30th to see if there is any interest.

Update!!

And after a quick stop at random.org:

True Random Number Generator Result: 1;

the winner is Mike (SurfinDecoy). I will send a GM requesting an address.

OFFERING E'

Camelot Legends, also new in shrink wrap.

In accordance with my own rules in claiming "Full Circle" before five items have been offered in this chain, I must offer the next item. Note that I will not be eligible to claim "Full Circle" and close the chain prior to offering "I". If I claim "Full Circle" prior to offering "I", I am bound by the rules to put another double item up.

DEADLINE:

I will keep the item open until noon GMT on Tuesday, November 3rd (Election Day). I will use RANDOM.ORG to determine a winner, and notify them on this list & by GM.

THE REVISED RULES:

The reseeded item must contain not one, but TWO offerings. This bonus offering will be drawn separately (c.f. the "Share The Love" chain).

Example 2: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C with two items.

Edited for formatting.
Edited to revise rules.

The Chain item is The Princes of Florence (the version pictured) complete,
The Giveaway item will be a copy of Hoity Toity.
And since it's almost Halloween, I'm going to throw in a second Giveaway of Zombie Fluxx! That's right, 3 THREE winners on this one.

The Geek Chain

To me, nothing says geek like the forces of evil gathered for one final, apocalyptic assault for ultimate control of the earth.. So up on the block is this opened-yet-unpunched copy of Hidden Conflict.

Quote:
Hidden Conflict is an innovative, tile-based, skirmish game that allows players to fight for global domination as either the forces of good or one of the many evil groups vying for control. Players build an army from the beautifully illustrated tiles and face off against their foes. The game plays equally well with two to six players.

This large box contains 240 "Army" tiles, complete rules and 6 player "cheat" cards.

I'll pick around Nov 7

TIME TO SHARE THE LOVE!!

Rules for the Share the Love Chain (as copy/pasted from the previous entry):

The winner of this round will receive my copy of Alhambra which is in excellent condition. The winner's understudy will be given Anima: Shadow of the Omega. All cards are sleeved and in great condition. This is the previous FFG printing, not the newest one.

As an added bonus I think I will chuck at least one extra random game in each box. That's right both winners are guaranteed at least 2 games.

I think I'll place the draw on this one next Sunday night (Nov. 8). Good luck.

Oop, almost forgot I had this here. OK, the winners are...

Primary Winner (Alhambra):

Secondary Winner (Anima):

FULL CIRCLE CHAIN

OFFERING F

The Hills Rise Wild - A Cthulhu mythos miniatures games by Pagan Publishing

DEADLINE:

I will keep the item open until November 12th. I will use RANDOM.ORG to determine a winner, and notify them on this list & by GM.

THE REVISED RULES:

The reseeded item must contain not one, but TWO offerings. This bonus offering will be drawn separately (c.f. the "Share The Love" chain).

Example 2: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C with two items.

RANDOM.ORG gave me a 3 so Sam and Max is the winner!

I'm not that much of a war gamer, so I don't have many to hand out. Therefore, this will be a lottery for an as-yet-unordered-copy of Conflict of Heroes - Storms of Steel. I will plan to order this from a local fogs. As such, this, like most Chain offerings, will be an international opportunity. I will draw via random.org on Monday, November 9.

Cheap Chain

Thanks very much to cedric18 for the bevy of nostalgia that's on the way has arrived.

Now on to a new link in the chain. No this is not the Card Game Chain. This is a card game based on the classic tile game Mahjong. This card game however plays 2-6 players. So that's board game-ish right? The game is complete and in playable condition.

If you want I'll also throw in one of the following:

200+ cards of A Game of Thrones Collectible Card Game

or

400+ cards of Harry Potter Trading Card Game

I don't know what possessed me to pick these up. I had no interest in them. And I don't know anything about either CCG. But if you have any questions just ask. And you don't have to take them if you don't want them.

---

Too cheap for the Cheap Chain I take it. No problem. I'll spice this up a bit. But I'm dropping all pretenses that I was better prepared for the Card Game Chain. I'll throw in another choice:

Stay with the Far East theme and pick Kwa-Dô

or

Choose something a bit more well known in Guillotine

Kwa-Dô is complete though it has some tape on it that might rip the box if removed. Guillotine is opened but the cards are still in thier original wrappers (nice gift perhaps).

You're still welcome to a CCG pick if you can use it.

I'll stick with picking a winner Wednesday, the 11th. But I'll push the time back to the evening.

---

9pm is evening enough.

Okay I'm writing pmagnus's name on a strip of paper. I'm giving the paper a single twist then taping the ends together. Now I'm throwing it up in the air. ... Hey! What do you know. It landed on the pmagnus side.

The winner is pmagnus.
