Discussion Thread is Here!

The original Chain of Generosity is here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/23326/ This list is a continuation.

The Chain has been, and continues to be, an enormous success. Thank you to all the people who've kept it going for over two years!

Boardgamegeek is a wonderful place. The friendly, helpful, generous users here make this one of the best online communities. I want to contribute to that spirit, so I have created the BGG Chain of Generosity.

Here's how the BGG Chain of Generosity (The Chain) works:

Step 1: I will seed the list with a giveaway game. Anyone who wants that game can leave a comment to that effect. After 2 days (on Friday) I will randomly choose (using the random integer generator at random.org) a recipient for the game, and geekmail them to set up shipping to their house.

Step 2: The recipient of the game will then choose a game from their collection (probably from their trade list) and post it as an item here for more people (or maybe the same people) to comment on and enter. After about 2 days (this can vary) they will do a drawing, and a that person will win the game.

Step 3: The new recipient repeats step 2.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

RULES:

1. You must comment to the item in question indicating you wish to be in the drawing to recieve it in order to be eligible to win.

2. If you win one, you MUST post a game of your own to give away in this fashion. If you don't like that idea, don't play.

3. In the unlikely event that no offers are made on your game by 48 hours after posting, try a different game in its place.

4. If you wish to start a second (or third, or fourth) chain, post an item to the geeklist and put "SEED" in bold in the description. For those later in the chain, identify which chain your game belongs to.

5. Sender pays shipping, unless he indicates in his entry that the recipient will and under what grounds (International shipping, etc). Anyone signing up to receive an item where recipient pays shipping agree to do so.

Pretty simple rules, eh?

Other Considerations:

The game you post should be one that most of the BGG community might want to have. Ideally, one on your trade list. The dual-purpose of this list is to spread goodwill and give unliked games a good home.

You can win multiple times. Just keep in mind each time you win a game you'll be giving another one away.

Just for fun, how about the big box Twilight Imperium. This offer also includes the expansion, Shattered Empire Expansion.

It is opened and played. There are one or two of the leader bits that are missing, but other than that, it is in very good shape. Complete other than the aforementioned. I have upgraded the storage with a few plano boxes and added some fun color-appropriate d10s.

This is the first game I bought via BGG. I bought it super-cheap from a local guy. Too bad we never played a game. It has definitely been played, but it's in pretty decent shape. And I've pimped it a little.

EYES FRONT SOLDIER! It's time for another installment of the Grognard Chain!

First off, a big thanks to Dujo for putting a copy of Conflict of Heroes: Storms of Steel! - Kursk 1943 up for grabs.

I hope this offer is almost as good. The winner of this link in the chain will get a like new copy of Napoleonic Wars 2nd edition. I opened it to read the rules. The counters are unpunched and the cards are still in shrink. It has not been played. I will also throw in the super deluxe map (still in shrink).

I will draw a number at random to decide the winner on Monday the 16th. I will contact the winner via Geekmail. Thank you to all who participate in the Board Game Geek Chain of generosity and GOOD LUCK!

O.K. folks, here we go. I will roll a 12 sided die to determine who will be the lucky recipient. If I roll a 12, I will re-roll.

I have rolled a "1". The winner is Keith Mageau! I will contact you via Geekmail for your mailing address.

All you need is love.

Rules for the Share the Love Chain (as copy/pasted from the previous entry):

1. The person posting a Share the Love chain item must offer 2 packages. Each package must contain at least one game, but may contain multiple games or a game and other items.

2. One package is pre-designated the "Chain" Item. The second package is the "Giveaway" item. When the winner is drawn, 2 drawings are made.

The first drawing is the entrant who gets the "Chain" package, and will post the next item in the chain. The second drawing entrant gets the "Giveaway" package. The winner of the Giveaway package does not post a chain item: They simply get their giveaway package for free!

3. All entrants have an equal chance of being selected for either item. An entrant may be asked only to be drawn for the Chain item, but may not ask to be entered only for the "Giveaway" package.

4. No entrant may win both the Chain and Giveaway package, unless they are the only entrant.

5. Entrants must indicate their interest by commenting "I'm in" or similar. Thumbs do NOT count as valid entries.

6. If the Share the Love chain makes it back around to me (unixrevolution), I have the option of closing it off for good.

7. Because microbadges are only awarded to users who have given a game away, winners of "Giveaway" packages will not recieve microbadges (though if you already have one, I won't take it away )

---

Thanks very much to polkeroo for Alhambra. I'm very much looking forward to it. Now to the new link in the chain.

Primary offer is Siena. It is new and in shrink. It also comes with separate English rules that help re-explain the other rules.

Secondary offer is Formula Dé Mini. The game pieces are in nice shape. The box has some minor shipping damage, nothing too serious though.

I will pick the winners on Monday no sooner than noon Pacific Time.

---

A 33.3334% chance of winning something. Anyone care to spoil those odds?

---

Time for some lovin'. By which of course I mean it's time to pick the winners. I don't have a d7. So a quick trip to random.org produced a 5!

The winner of Sienna and the next torchbearer for the chain is...

themilkcrate

Cross David off the list and go back to random.org to get ... another 5!

So the winner of the free lovin' ... well that is to say the no strings attached lovin' ... uh, look, I'm just trying to help 2 to 8 people have hours of enjoyment without the entanglements of a future commitment ... oh dear. Formula de Mini goes to ...

atimrogers

Geekmails are on the way.

Cheap Chain

This is the Cheap Chain. It's cheap, and it's a chain. There are no rules, because rule are for the expensive chains.

I'm offering the 3M Bookshelf edition of High Bid. It has some shelf wear, but is in good condition. It includes both of the specialty dice. I couldn't find a picture of just this edition, but it's the third one from the left in the image I could find.

I'll also throw in a dime-store copy of Xiangqi, a slightly irregular copy of the Decktet, and a few HeroClix.

I'll draw lots in about ten days, if anyone enters in for this.

And... Chuck Meeks (Komodo) wins the die roll.

I can't fully match the awesomeness of my win, but I will try my best.

Up for offer is a copy of Monsters Menace America. I haven't had a chance to get this out for quite awhile, so I think it's time to pass it on. I will also be throwing in at least one mystery game. The mystery game may not be awesome, it or may, it is a mystery!

I will try to draw sometime near Dec 5th, so they will have the games well before Christmas!

*Warning, My wife just found one of the bits for this down our register, I will try to inventory it before shipping if time permits, but there is a possibility that some bits may be missing. If this is the case. I will do my best to make up for it, either by buying replacement bits from someone that has components for sale, or whatever we agree on. But, it could be entirely there now with the return of this lost tank*

The "Share the Love" Chain

Thanks to Mike (SurfinDecoy) for the last chain items!

This is the 14th item in the chain. Ken's gentle prodding has me thinking. Thinking about Arkham ... and the Black Goat ... and how it might be nicer to have it in someone else's Woods.

Oops, I am a dork. I went to my game shelf today to get out the "Black Goat" expansion that I posted on the on the Share the Love chain. I don't own the Black Goat expansion. I own the "King in Yellow" expansion. So that's what I'm offering.

The winner of the primary offer will be the lucky recipient of Arkham Horror: The King in Yellow Expansion.

The secondary winner will receive their choice of Rainbows + Agricola grain & veg beads OR an unpunched copy of Michael Schacht's Caramba!.

I will be choosing a winner on Monday, December 7th (a day that will live in infamy).

The primary winner is kingmaker fan. The secondary winner is larryjrice, who chose Rainbows and a set of Agricola beads. Congratulations to the winners and thanks for participating!

So, for my entry in the let's make a deal chain.

First, here's the visible item.

Quads. Experience one of the earlier designs by the man responsible for the gipf series. I've actually enjoyed this one, but it is time for it to move on to a new home.

Now for the curtains.

Curtain #1

Hint: The name of this game would be an appropriate answer to a question asked often on a TV show, but probably not the one you're thinking of.
Revealed: I'm the Boss

Curtain #2

Hint: A race through most dangerous space, but probably not the one you're thinking of.
Revealed: Demon's Run

Curtain #3

Hint: This is considered by some a classic economic game, but probably not the one you're thinking of.
Revealed: Shark

And that's about it. Thanksgiving should mean a lot of folks away from BGG for a while, so I'm going to run this one until December 3. That should give everyone time. Respond with a declarative statement of interest and pick a curtain (or the revealed item) to get in on this one.

Ooops. Forgot about this until today. Now, for the winner. My handy d2 says: 2. Congratulations, larryjrice, you win. GM on the way.

FULL CIRCLE CHAIN

OFFERING G

Brawl: Catgirls decks!

Punchcards: Totally Renamed Spy Game promotions!
Pennywise: The game on a business card!
Any other promo stuff I can find around the house.

Also, let me know if you're interested in the Brawl: Shadowfist deck.

DEADLINE:

I will keep the item open until December 14th. I will make a random draw to determine a winner, and notify them on this list & by GM.

THE REVISED RULES:

1. The Full Circle Chain continues until its originator (bill_andel) replies to an item with the comment "Full Circle!" prior to the deadline date for that item. The originator then becomes the winner of that item, rather than the winner being chosen by random selection.

2. If the originator does not claim "Full Circle!", the winner must be selected using random.org with the time-stamped output appended to the decription of the item offered.

3. If the originator of the chain has claimed any of the last five items at the time he or she claims "Full Circle!", he must re-seed the chain and the chain continues. The reseeded item must contain not one, but TWO offerings. This bonus offering will be drawn separately (c.f. the "Share The Love" chain). If the originator has not claimed any of the last five items in the chain, then the chain may be closed at the discretion of the originator.

Example 1: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C, winner of C offers D, winner of D offers E. Originator claims "Full Circle!" for item E and closes chain. (If originator does not claim "E", he or she could claim any offering thereafter to close the chain.)

Example 2: Originator offers item A, winner of A offers B, winner of B offers C with two items. Originator claims "Full Circle!" for item C and MUST provide item D to continue the chain. (Originator will not be able to close chain until at least item H.)

4. Offerings shipped to the continental US only.

5. Winners must provide the next offering within 7 days of winning. Items should be offered for a period not to exceed 14 days. If an item receives no interest within 7 days, the offering should be modified or replaced (which restarts the "not to exceed 14 day" period).

6. These rules must accompany each offering in the chain. All offerings in the chain must be lettered "A", "B", "C", etc. If "Z" is reached, continue with "AA", "BB", etc. All offerings must include the date on which the winner will be selected.

for the previous entry.

The next offering in the Original Chain will be the BoardGameGeek Game. This game is *not* in hand, so I will need to order it from the BGG store. Therefore, the winner will receive this game, new-in-shrink, directly shipped to you. Please keep in mind that I am assuming that I will be able to order and have this game shipped upon drawing a winner. If for some reason that doesn't work out (sold out, whatever), the winner and I will work out some sort of arrangement for an approximately equivalently valued new game.

Join in to support the 10th Anniversary of BGG. As a site regular, you know you need to have this game in your collection. Sign up. Do it now.

I will draw on Tuesday, December 8Saturday, December 12.

Edit: Guys (and gals), I know I'm a little behind my date on this. I just got really slammed at work this week. I haven't forgotten. I really hope to get to this tomorrow, but no promises. In the meantime, this item remains open to new contestants. Sorry for the extra suspense, but a little frustration in life will build your character. Thanks for your patience!

Edit 2: Alright, this has gone on long enough. No more excuses since it's the weekend (though I am at the office doing this).

The Mystery Box Chain

Thanks to Gridiron for the latest box.

RULES:
1. The giver must put more than one game into the box.

2. The giver is also required to give at least one hint concerning one game in the box.

3. GM me with your guess as to what game I am hinting at. If you are correct, you will receive one extra entry in the drawing. (multiple guesses are allowed)

4. If you win, you are expected to post the contents of your box in the following geeklist: What's in the Box? Chain of generosity - Mystery Box contents http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/34124

The Hints:
1. The main feature in this box will make you more earth conscious. Ready to go 'GREEN' BGG?
*it is not a touchy-feely 'lets get to know our planet' game
2. Its rating is deceptive. Okay now, it's rating is .01 greater than deceptive.

Deadline:
I will choose a winner in 7-10 days.

I forgot about this listing. Merry Christmas to......

Grognard Chain

Eyes front Uruk-hai, I mean, soldier.

Thanks to Keith for South Mountain. I'm looking forward to some Civil war gaming. As stated before, I am not a heavy wargamer, so I don't have a lot of wargames to give away.

Therefore, I will go slightly outside the box to offer War of the Ring. It is listed on the Wargame rankings and plays like a cross between an Ameritrasher and a little bit of wargame with an obvious fantasy theme. Tell you what, you know what it is. You can decide whether you want it and leave the arguments about whether it fits this chain at home.

This will be an as-yet-unordered-*new-in-shrink* copy of this game. I intend to order it from a friendly online gaming store and have it shipped directly to the winner. If for some reason I can't order it, the winner and I will work out an arrangement for some other new, approximately equivalently valued wargame.

Enjoy!

(Note: this is *not* the new special edition.)

Soldier! Did you forget to give a reporting statement? How dare you enter my office without a reporting statement!!! Never the less, you are here now! Your orders are as follows...

Report to the supply sergeant at 0500 hours and he will proceed to issue you your gear. This mission will involve you carrying a classified package from our supply depot to the target location. Understand? Good!

Now get out of here!

ROE:
I decided to change this up a little. It will be hard to match the generostiy of Dujo, but I will try. This will be a wargame mystery box. I will give you some clues to the items it will contain and clues to the items that it might contain.

I will use a flat rate USPS box stuffed to the brim So, I have to limit this to US and APO/FPO residents. My apologies to my wargaming buddies around the world.

One caveat, you will need to post a picture of the contents so that everyone can see what you got. Much in the way the winners of the mystery chain do.

Clues:

The wargame mytstery box will include:
- 1 OOP boxed wargame (in shrink) [hint: it was once white but now it is red]
- 1 recent magazine game with magazine (missing replacement counters for other games) [hint: Operation Drumroll]
- something for ASL (could be extra counters, map boards, etc)[I have countersheets, 10+ map boards, overlays, etc that I can choose from]

The wargame mytstery box might include:
- wargaming magazines (no game)
- card sleeves
- other wargames
- deck protector boxes
- DVDs (war movie of course)
- other useful items

I will let this run until Christmas Day, sometime in the morning after my kids open thier presents

Edit 1- I found two books in my collection of books that might make it into the box as well. These are obscure titles published by the Air University (USAF).

Edit 2
Ok, I have tentatively packed the box and there is a ton of gaming and gaming related goodness in the box. This box is heavy! Depending on how you value different items, this box will have a fair market value of somewhere around $100!

Here's a teaser:
- 2 Games as promised
- Other small games
- 3 different types of ASL items
- Several items of reading material
- Many gaming accessories

The "Share the Love" Chain

Closed : Only one entrant so all the love will be his!

Thanks to David (themilkcrate) for the last chain items!

This is the 15th item in the chain.

The winner of the primary offer will be the lucky recipient of Lord of the Rings - The Search OR Pirate King OR Battleball, the last two are thrift copies but in good shape. The Pirate King is the big box version and is missing one coin. I will assist the winner in finding one if they are really concerned about the missing coin.

Edit: Ok, I apparently way overestimated the appeal of my offering. In addition to the above, the winner of the primary offer can choose one game from my for trade list other than Heroscape or Solarquest (Appollo 13 version).

The secondary winner will receive their choice of Five Crowns OR Pirateer

I will be choosing a winner on Monday, December 21st (I have to do it then because I will be going out of town until after the first of the year).

--------------------------
Rules for the Share the Love Chain:

6. If the Share the Love chain makes it back around to unixrevolution, he has the option of closing it off for good.

7. Because microbadges are only awarded to users who have given a game away, winners of "Giveaway" packages will not receive microbadges.

First edit was to put in game names as my attempt at links failed.

FULL CIRCLE CHAIN

OFFERING G

AH Edition: Cosmic Encounter

Bought used, but I'm pretty sure it's unplayed.

Bonus: I found some old b&w Xerox copies of the original Eon powers and flares (except the Aristocrat, for which I have a proxy), so I'll toss them into the offer.

Winner is... Modoc! Enjoy the game!

DEADLINE:

I will keep the item open until January 5th.

Original Chain!

Thanks much for the BGG game. Now, on to my offering.

I have two copies of Galaxy Trucker. It was on my wishlist on the first day of Secret Santa. I was also winning an auction for it on that same day. Guess who didn't update his wishlist fast enough. (Note that this is in no way a complaint about my santa. This was my own fault, and I am well aware of that)

So this is new, in shrink.

I'll let this run for a week. Hopefully, there will be enough people on to get in on this by the 30th.

Edit: Wow, that was a response and a half. Quite a few people hanging out on BGG during the holidays. Good to know.
