#2. I guess Puerto Rico is my personal number one choice. I appreciate the relative accessibility of this game for newcomers, given the game's weight. I love the variable player roles and the various paths you can take. Good balance of strategy and tactics.

I just don't get tired of playing this one.

#3. Going back to the lighter side, a fun race game with a "decline of civilization" theme that's quite hilarious. Oh my gosh, the barbarians are coming, the barbarians are coming! We play with some house rules for 2-3 players to ramp up the game faster and add a couple of twists:

1. Each player starts with 3 each of food, gold, and peace - so buildings can be bought earlier in the game.

2. Each player gets a tribute token that can be used once in the game - with it you can force another player to pay the tribute to the Goth at any time - during yours or another's turn. It can save you when you can't pay, or prevent another player from buying a desirable building during her/his next turn.

3. Each player gets a building token that can be used once in the game - with it you can forcibly purchase another player's building during your turn. You pay him/her the building purchase price, and you get to take the movement points for purchasing a building, plus you get the building of course.

4. No hidden information - we play without the screens to hide your resources. We tend to favor games without hidden info.

With these rules, the game goes very fast with a good sense of progression, has little downtime, and gets an added couple of differently flavored decision points. Woohoo!!!

#4. Totally love this game and how the theme is integrated into the game mechanics: feed your people or they will leave your cities. Understand your people and hear their voice, or you will lose your citizens. The "Voice of the People" throws in a definite element of luck in La Citta, but I like it, and you can work to mitigate it by hedging all your bets, or by playing appropriate cards.

You need some sort of scorekeeping method for your farms and people and for whether your cities have marketplaces and fountains. Once you get away from having to count everything several times thoughout the game, La Citta plays smoothly. It is very engrossing with lots of different strategies and tactics to consider. Plays wonderfuly with two players!

#6. The last choice is always the hardest one. I am torn between the abstract simplicity of Vinci and the brainburner of Khronos. Both games shine with 3 players. Right now though, I will veer towards Khronos with its kookie theme, temporal paradoxes, and rippling timewaves. Its complexity is compelling.

1. Magic This feels like a cheat fitting into "one game," but there you go. The must have.

2. Carcassonne A good, fun, light-hearted game of city building and treacherous backstabbing that most of my friends enjoy.

3. Commands and Colors: Ancients A wonderful game system, and also prone to expanding, which lets me cheat this space a little.

4. Star Wars Miniatures So I have the pretty figures for one of my favorite worlds. Also a fast and fun game.

5. Space Hulk A good game that I might find more time to play if it were number 5 of 6.

6. Axis & Allies So we have one grand-scale game in the mix.

1. Go - Infinite replayability, timeless classic, hard to go past.
2. Pax Romana - A good 4 player empire/wargame
3. Twilight Struggle - One of the most replayable CDGs (very hard to pick this over Paths of glory, but I can only afford 1 cdg)
4. Dak2 - Tons of scenarios with a very scalable game length.
5. Puerto Rico - A great Euro Game with lots of depth.
6. The last and hardest: I would have to go to Descent, purely because I could play it with my friends who don't like the other games. Otherwise WRG or maybe Age of Steam.

1. Schotten Totten - Well, we might as well start with my highest rated and most played game eh? I don't think I'd get by without this one.

2. Vegas Showdown - A surprising addition, but I do really enjoy it. It would give me a good fix for my auctioning needs.

3. Wits & Wagers - Gotta have a party game, and this one would definitely do it for me. It really is just such an innovative trivia game.

4. Notre Dame - I need a cube pushing Eurogame, and this one is my current favorite. I'd prefer to let it age a bit more, but for the moment, this would be my choice.

5. Ticket to Ride: Europe - I'd need a great family game and gateway game. This has been my favorite ever since I purchased it. I don't see that changing soon.

6. Tigris & Euphrates - And lastly I need a game that has some direct conflict. Shogun might fit nicely here too. It's a tough call. Or maybe Traders of Genoa?

Kings and Castles and Viking Fury by the Ragnar Brothers, since they're classy productions that play nicely. And I think I scooped up the last of the print run.

Silent War by Compass Games, so I'll remember to play it more often.

Trias, by Rio Grande, because it's simple to teach, gets the guys laughing, and it hasn't lost its shine for me. Though an expansion (a la Carcassonne?) would be interesting.

hmmm... can't decide. Maybe I'll come back to this.

2. Advanced Squad Leader: I'm including all the parts to this, so it's a HUGE amount of gaming material! Fun tactical game with great replay and a billion scenarios. yes, a billion, I counted.

3. Carcassonne: Need one to play with the family, and everyone digs this one. With the river.

4. Raid on St. Nazaire: Need a solo game and this is it.

5. The Russian Campaign: The big L2 edition of this one.

6. Heroscape: This one is for my crazy buddies who can't get enough of it. If I have this, I'm sure to get some good gaming time.

1) Tichu. I'm going to assume that the deck of cards can only be used for Tichu, since using it for anything else would add more distinct "games" to the mix... so, Tichu.

2) Settlers of Catan + Seafarers + 5/6 player expansions (I don't think Seafarers really counts as a distinct game, but I think C&K might be pressing my luck here).

3) Carcassonne: The Castle. I would say Carcassonne + some expansions, but they add more to Carcassonne than Seafarers adds to Catan, so they'd almost be separate "games."

4) Citadels (new edition with Dark City included). This one is a stand-by, especially since it can play such a wide range of players and offers a lot of replayability.

5) Vegas Showdown. I don't play this very often right now, but it would definitely be a choice for a keeper here. It's accessible to new players, but has a lot of depth.

6) Here I Stand + Diplomacy Deck. Still haven't made it through a whole game with my wife! It would be a shame to not have it, especially since we both really love the theme.

Railroad Tycoon Easily my favourite game, and the family all like it too.

Power Grid or Goa The only two auction games that I really love. I don't expect I'd have room for both but I don't know that I can choose. Since Power Grid is a bit of a railroad game in disguise, the presence of Railroad Tycoon in my collection may tip the scales slightly in Goa's favour.

Blue Moon (including all people decks) I really enjoy card games and this may be my favourite of the genre. If I only had six games, I'd have plenty of time for deck construction!

Antiquity If I'm only allowed six games, I want one that's heavy, and this game combines the building/development theme that's a favourite of mine with the added coolness of having to figure out how you're going to deal with pollution and famine. Also, the multiple victory conditions will keep the game fresh.

Bohnanza So far, I haven't listed any really light social games. Bohnanza's always fun and sees a lot more play than you'd think a game about beans would. I keep High Bohn tucked in my box, so surely that would be allowed to stay too...

Mystery of the Abbey (with infinite crib sheets) No, it's not my sixth favourite game by a long shot, but I do like a deduction game and I feel like I'd need one. Then again, I need a word game too - can I tuck Attribute in the box? I bet I could sneak in the Blue Moon City components too if I took out the insert...

5) Hacienda - Tile Placement

6) San Juan - Card Game version of PR. Quicker and just as good.

All games can work just fine with 2-4 players, though SoE is a bit different with 2 players.

Reading it again and again ...

"If you could only have six games in your collection, which would they be?"

... considering that there are many people around having some games, so I could still play them, and thinking about our public libraries, where I can get "El Grande", "Robo Rally", "Tikal", and so on, then it is quite obvious I would keep the rare ones I love for one or the other reason.

<-- 1. Hotel Life, with my customized hotel managers. Chaotic fun for the whole family!

2. Xiangqi, my home-made board ...

3. Chess, I would never give up my chess-set from my grandfather, late 19th century:

4.Hameln, just because nobody else around has it, and me and my family love it!

5. Der Räuber Hotzenplotz, because of nostalgia, and if kids visiting us, and because of the possibility to decapitate pöppel ...

6. Scopa I thought of "Ramses", but I would need one fast card game, so I would keep this one, great even with two players and one of my favourites together with my wife since 1989.

Hey, that is enough, I don`t need more. I am a happy man! Thanks for this money-saving idea!!

1. Blood Bowl - Living Rulebook
I could play Blood Bowl until the end of days and not get tired. (I know, because I've already done so! Then I came back and played some more Blood Bowl.)

2. Roborally
This game brings so much fun, and has great replayability! I'd get some protective sheets for the cards though, they get frayed fast when you play it your entire life.

3. World In Flames
If I wanted one single game to occupy so much time that I wouldn't have time to play that many games anyway...this is the one! A game will always be running, so you can always fill your head with plans for conquest!

4. Arkham Horror
Horror! Adventure! Lots of stuff! Good looking and lots of fun. I have a slight worry though that I could get less enthusiastic after a 100 plays or so.

5. Carcassonne
I need something a bit more relaxing on my list. This looks nice, and plays out in a pace that isn't stressing.

6. Spank The Monkey
A fun take-that! The cards have a nice feeling, and it's generally great fun, and not any difficult.

I haven't won yet, and I'll be damned if I ever get rid of this before I finally come out on top. btw, I've been playing this for the last two years or so. I suck.

#3: Mall of Horror
My 2nd fav! Backstabbing is the nature of the beast, and I enjoy every moment. Besides, it helps to practice for the oncoming zombie onslaught.

#4: Caylus
I got this after a long-awaited preorder, and have been playing it regularly ever since. 'Nuff said!

#5: Shogun
It takes forever to set up and play (at least sometimes it seems to), but well worth it. My favorite "wargame".

#6: Torres
I'll need at least one abstract. Fun, challenging and pretty to look at.

Hmmmm....top 6....probably harder than I think it is...

1. Navia Dratp: No brainer for me here. My favorite game. Customizable, no luck coolness.

2. Magic The Gathering: Well, I'll have to put this in too, for the same reasons as everyone else that used it.

3. Tichu: Never get bored of this one.

4. Wallenstein/Shogun: Love this game. Can't resist tower...

5. Wings of War: Famous Aces: Fast, fun, and can handle a ton of players

6. Puerto Rico: Game I always like to play

Ok...so that was harder. I am euro player for the most part, but for top games, there are only a few euros that I like to play no matter what. Puerto Rico is one of them. Tikal and Vinci were two others I had to consider putting in, but I was thinking about the trapped on the island thing. While I love Tikal, I play that one in bursts. Vinci is another great choice, but I went with Wally instead. I probably rate them the same, but Wally has that extra something for me.

Another thing I noted about myself...even though I really like the WWII version of Wings of War, I actually like the WWI version better. I think because I am more familiar with the plane types.

What really surprises me is that I have 2 card games up there. But I was thinking about replayability and longevity.

Variety is key. I went with two meaty games, a party game, a card game, a super-filler and dexterity:

-Tichu
-Power Grid
-Crokinole
-Wits and Wagers
-China
-Princes of Florence

I doubt Tichu and Crokinole will ever change but the other four could easily be replaced considering how many good games I have yet to play.

1.) Warmachine - Plenty to do when you've got no opponent (paint minis, model conversions, etc.) And when you do it is fast fun metal-on-metal action. Although I'd also take Hordes as a equivilent. every faction plays a bit differently so there's even more replayability there.

2.) Go - If I only had six games perhaps I'd play this enough to actually know what the hell I'm doing on a Go board.

3.) A Game of Thrones - Devilish betrayal at it's finest, a great game when you've got 4-5 players (well 6 with the expansion at least).

4.) Federation Commander - I like hex-and-counter and I like Sci-Fi I find FC to be a bit more fun that SFB.

5.) Arkham Horror - Great solo, great with more folks, something cooperative my wife will play.

6.) Cosmic Encounter - 'nuff said.
