Please note - I have removed all old placeholders from this list. Please only use this list to record the receipt of games actually received from your Santa.

Only use placeholders to let your Santa know you received your package but are waiting to open it. When you actually open the package, please update the entry with the game(s) you received and express your reaction for your Santa. Please let me know if you experience any problems with this via GeekMail. Sorry for any confusion...now on to the list:

Since we just got our Secret Santa Targets assigned --

Last year's episode of "Look what my Secret Santa sent me..." was well received, so I am creating the same list again for 2007.

I originally posted this as a way to let my Santa know when I receive my gift without him/her worrying about letting me know who (s)he is. Use this as a central area to record what our Secret Santas sent us. If you plan on using this list, you may want to make a note on your profile so your Secret Santa knows to look on the list for your receipt and reaction.

That way your Secret Santa can look to see if you received your gift and you can post any comments you may have about the gift here and you can reply without the identity of your Secret Santa ever having to be divulged!

If your Santa sends you more than one item, just list them all in one listing unless you think it makes more sense to list them separately. Remember to include any comments you want your Secret Santa to know!

I don't know about anyone else, but I generally obsess about whether a package has arrived at it's intended destination. I drive my wife crazy with checking tracking numbers constantly! So it will be nice to see when those gifts are actually received by the giftee (or are they just sitting unclaimed on the neighbor's porch?)

(I am just using a generic Christmas first item as a placeholder for mine until my gift arrives, at which time I will update it with the real gift). In case you were wondering - yes, I do have a probably unfounded fondness for this holiday.

Now for the big question - do you open the gift or allow it to taunt you from under the tree until your local Christmas/Holiday gift opening?

Santa is the R0XX0R! Who but he could look at a list of 17 "Must haves" and pick the #1 without clues? For now it shall sit in shrink on my shelf next to it's sibling Wallenstein and await the day of joy but know this Santa, it dances in my dreams with the Tin Soldiers and Sugerplum fairies!

I have the best Secret Santa EVAR!!!! laugh

His taunt was so funny, I have to share with everyone:

"Santa thinks you've been reasonably good this year! Your copy of Monopoly - Pokemon Edition is on its way!

No need to thank me, you deserve it!

P.S. It's not Monopoly

P.P.S. It's Uno

P.P.P.S. It's not Uno

P.P.P.P.S. Keep your eye out for more than one package!!!! "

Around lunchtime today, the postman ran up the stairs to my apartment and dropped a Priority Mail box on my doorstep. I grabbed it immediately and noted the Funagain Games rubber-stamped return address. I hefted the box and shook it carefully, trying to deduce which of the games on my wishlist it might contain. I narrowed the field down to three possible games, and ranked Battle Line as the most likely. I fully intended to wait until tomorrow's gaming session with some friends to open it, but there was a ding in the box, tearing almost all the way through the cardboard. I applied a little pressure to the ding, and wiggled my finger into the box to feel around for damage. Then I pressed down the flap of cardboard and peeked inside to see if the game was gift-wrapped -- if it was I could open the Priority Mail box without spoiling the surprise. It wasn't wrapped, and I saw that it was indeed Battle Line. So I figured that since I had gone that far, I should take it out of the cardboard mailer to check for damage. Imagine my surprise and delight when I found that Santa had sent not only Battle Line, but also The Very Clever Pipe Game and Steam Tunnel, from Hip Pocket Games, one of my favorite publishers (I like Timeline a lot!) [BTW, Santa can rest assured that all the games were in perfect condition.]

Three games is very generous -- thank you, Secret Santa! But the exact wording of your taunt has me wondering if there's more to come, or if you just expected the games to be shipped separately. If you read this, can you clarify?

And oddly enough, my Secret Santa target owns all three of these games and has rated two of them as 8's (that's a big hint to my target), so I'm wondering if my target is also my Secret Santa, or if the system is guaranteed never to generate such two-way connections. Anybody know?

UPDATE [12/08/07]: Santa did indeed choose another game from the "must have" section of my Wishlist -- Boomtown.

It arrived yesterday, 12/07, from Boards&Bits. We played it at a special gaming session my group had last night with Scott Nicholson, of "Board Games with Scott" fame, who was in town for a conference at a local University. Scott wasn't in the Boomtown game (I believe that he was playing Hollywood Blockbuster at that time), but I did get to play Sid Sackson's Gold Connection with him, as well as Bang!

To sum up my feelings about Secret Santa, "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Four expressions of gratitude to my personal Secret Santa for the 4 games he sent, and one to BGG for the program as a whole.

Christmas has come, and with it my Secret Santa gifts. Arkadia! I've never played it, but it's been on my radar for some time. It looks like the sort of game we'll love at my house. So many bits! Thank you, Santa!

I also got Coloretto

This is another game I've never played, but I recently bought Zooloretto and enjoyed it. Coloretto is a welcome addition to the library.

Thank you, Santa. I don't know who you are, but I appreciate all the effort you put into finding just the right games for me.

And thanks also to Tom Vasel and Boardgamegeek for getting the whole thing started. I had a lot of fun giving and receiving.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

(UPDATE: 21 Dec 2007)
Well its Christmas at my house, a few days early so we can visit our folks. It appears the holiday spirit smiled upon us by leaving us with the following:
Notre Dame
Reef Encounter
Techno Witches

Who knew Santa was from Australia? Thanks Santa!

---
(UPDATE: 3 Jan 2008)
Finally after a week at the in-laws and my parents, we are returned home. Today I broke the shrink on Notre Dame and did a solitaire round with myself. At first the icons seem confusing, but you get used to them. I also like the cumulative aspect of the regions. So far, it feels a bit like Caylus Magna Carta, we will see how it plays soon!

Also, I looked up the street values of this set of games. Holy smokes! I knew it was up there, but had no idea. It makes me think I should be a bit more generous around this site...

... to be continued.

(Will add my image if it gets accepted).

I'm having a very UNmerry day today!

First, I had some crazy thing happen to my bike as I was biking into the lab today - the gear seems to have gotten wedged into the frame somehow, I have no idea what happened or how to fix it.

But this let me be around when a package arrived - from my SS!

From some earlier taunting, I knew that my SS had giftwrapped the game. So, I opened the delivery package. Inside was a valiant attempt at some German text in reference to the game. It was a dead giveaway, however, as it mentioned bombs and such. I waited for my GF to come home, and opened the package - and it was indeed Duel in the Dark! Great! They also sent me a message about "reinforcements" being en route, which leads me to believe that I will be receiving some or all of the expansions! For now, the Railroad Flak was included.

But then I opened the shrinkwrap, and the box itself. Mold. The pervasive stench - the box is covered in it, everything smells. It seems that this has been a persistent problem, but this box seems particularly bad. The box is completely discolored, and everything feels damp. I wrote to Zev about this a few hours ago, and got a prompt reply:

"I can replace it but I cannot guarantee a non-moldy cover. What I ask is that you air everything out for a day or two. I can send you a new box and any component you are unsatisfied with after airing it out.
Zev"

Despite the complaints of my g/f, I have it in the upstairs study airing out at the moment...but I don't have high hopes, unfortunately. We'll see what happens, I suppose. The box will *certainly* have to be replaced, if nothing else. I thought Zev had straightened this whole issue out, why no guarantee of non-moldy cover (I assume he means box)?

Thank you for this, however, SS, this is certainly not your fault! I really liked this game the one time I played it, and am looking forward to getting some great use out of the game...if things do dry out, or whenever the replacement stuff arrives.

Wow my great Secret Santa Gift package arrived today!!
Just got my Secret Santa package!

Cash n Guns, PLUS Formula Motor Racing were inside the box!

Thanks Secret Santa!

The message inside was a nice touch, and I liked thoughthammer's address saying it was from 123 Candy Cane Lane in Chilly, North Pole!

Thoughthammer also threw in a couple neat custom Thoughthammer dice, grey marbled with yellow dots. And ace side is the thoughthammer symbol. Good stuff, great little custom touch from Thoughthammer. I'd order another order from them for another set of dice but they are out of Attribute (I need to get 3 copies for gifts)

An excellent gift!

I got home today and found a box from Thoughthammer Games waiting for me. For two seconds, I thought "what's this?" And then I realized! Santa had come!

Rather than run the risk of a friend or family member buying me a redundant game from my list, I thought "I might as well open the package... just in case." To be fair, I decided that if they were wrapped, I'd wait to open them. Inside were TWO games...

my #1 wishlist choice: 4th edition Talisman AND

Gulo Gulo - which was on my list because I heard it was a great alternative to the hated Candyland for young kids.

And a nice pair of Thought Hammer brand dice. Can't have enough dice!

The timing on these couldn't be better as I have friends coming over tomorrow and they WILL be playing Talisman! And as I get to watch the kids all day while my wife's away, we'll get to play some Gulo Gulo as well.

Thank you very much, Secret Santa, for your very generous and thoughtful gift!! Merry Christmas!! (or whatever you celebrate!)

THANKblankYOU

It seems my beloved postman tried to deliver my gifts last weekend, but instead of ringing my nice loud doorbell, rapped on the door with a feather. One hastily re-arranged delivery and a weeks worth of excitement later, and I couldn't hang on, so...

And .....and Attribute, too! (Hey, can someone tell me how to insert a picture of this great game? Every time I hit the icon "Insert BGG Image" it tells me I don't have ImageID:211585 selected. )

My family thinks I have too many games, so if it hadn't been for you Secret Santa, there is no way I would have these great games that were at the top of my list. They are terrific! Thank you so much. I have played Imperial, and immediately knew I wanted it. Attribute I have only read about and has been on my list so long.

Thank you for suggesting I could open my package early. Imperial I will take to our Christmas game night; and my family is arriving a week before Christmas and Attribute looks as though it is going to be a great family game--It looks like the kind of game they will play. A very wet postman (hail and thunder here in Newport) just delivered a padded envelope.

Its the Space Dealer expansion!

The Moose package was the Pillars of the Earth expansion, and as I pulled it out of the box, another game dropped out..

Many thanks to my Secret Santa, I got home from work yesterday and a Mayfair Box was awaiting my arrival...being the impatient person that I am, I immediately opened it...and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but Cartgena and Taluva!!

Thank you very much Santa!! I am anxious to play them over the x-mas holidays when my family comes to town.

I got home after going to a light parade and there was a package from ThoughtHammer. Lo and behold, BattleLore and another game were inside! This is awesome!

...and the second game was Ark! I played this at a friends house and knew it would go over well with the family. And it already has. Two plays so far.

A nice box arrived this morning from Shire Games (thank you Nick), all nicely gift-wrapped.

I checked only the size and shape and I'm pleased to say " IT'S NOT MONOPOLY ".

I am going to wait until the 25th I promise. I will resist, I can resist, I must resist - darn, where are those scissors.

Many, many thanks to my SS who gave me a little poke with a separate message. My first year and I can't wait for next.

Oh my God - I cracked, no will power! And what was inside?

Top of my list - even greater appreciation to my SS. Love everyone!

AND

My Secret Santa rocks! I got home last night after a particularly long rough day at work and was carrying some stuff in from the truck and I see two packages at the back door. Thinking they are things from a recent math trade I leave them where they sit. Later that night as I watch some boring TV after my wife has gone to bed I thing to myself, "What if one of those packages is from my speedy secret santa?"

I rush to the back room and look at the top box, but I recognize the sender and I know it is from a trade. Then I look at the second box...a game retailer?! I grab the box, nearly dropping it due my misperception of the weight. I take it to the kitchen table and open it. Packing peanuts are flying everywhere. I know I can pick them up later, I have to see what is in the box. My digging is slowed since I have to keep kicking my dog so he won't eat the packing peanuts. To my excitement I pulled out Fury of Dracula! Yes, I have been wanting that for a long time! I then to go move the shipping box so I can open the game, but and it still feels heavy. So I grab the shipping box again I keep digging (and kicking) and I see a Golden Knight! Warrior Knights! This is the game I have wanted so terribly much, but I never bought it since I couldn't get my wife to play it. Forget that now, I have two games I have wanted for a long time.

So what does any excited person do when acting well below their age? I run upstairs and wake up my wife to tell her the exciting news! She gives me a confused look, but it must be because she isn't wearing her glasses. Since she can't see I have to explain what I got! I also explain that my Santa rocks since this is a double sized gift! I see the look of frustration on her face, but I know it is because we can't play right now since we will need more players. So I head back downstairs, flip on the lights and read through some rules...

Thanks Santa!
Merry Christmas everyone!
