So I still like Dice-fests... sue me...

It's fun, it's healthy, it's good exercise. The kids will just love it. And we put a little sand inside to make the experience more pleasant.
You know, they say there was a man who jumped from the forty-FIFTH floor? But that's another story...

This is a follow-up GeekList to this one concerning the The Settlers of Catan series.
I find myself drawn to Dice-fests more and more nowadays.
My own definition of Dice-fest: any game that the outcome consists almost entirely on dice and you feel like you are rolling a bunch of dice.
So feel free to add your own... and let the Dice-fest begin!

Its a classic... and most people know how to play.
It can be fun with the right cloud, and a good primer for future Dice-fest games.

Ahhh yes... this one is on BSW and gets played quite a bit.
There's a little thinking involved, but not too much. Very fun.

I personally like this one because of its use of dice.
I think its a good step up from Yahtzee for new players.

While I have yet to play this... (its in the mail) I see the Dice-fest part... and I am drooling over it.
Seems very fun.

People are going to compare this to To Court the King. But there are enough differences to keep the two seperate.
I liked this one a lot.

I really enjoy this game because you have choices - which symbol to go with, or if you should keep rolling or stop.
Good game.

One I actually don't care for...
I think Herr Dr. just through this one together a bit too quickly.

Happily my kids love this favorite from my childhood. AND as a bonus, I no longer have to fight my brother over who gets to be the guy with the spoon.

This one made my dime list last year and I only received it in mid-November. So much fun, and feels strategic even though lucky dice-rolls control the entire outcome.

It's light, it's simple, it's 100% luck-based. Yet here I sit with more plays of this game than I have played Settlers of Catan. Great fun for the whole family.

Heroscape is full of dice - specialty dice even!
I like the use of dice in Heroscape. The combat is easily resolved, and it keeps the game moving.

Another game that gets played often, this time on the PC. I have a bunch of free versions of this along with the official licensed one. I play against the PC mostly as it's not something that the family wants to play.
With the hardest settings, I can usually eek out a win if I play with several computer players as they don't tend to go for the kill and attack me when they probably should.
Even against the computer, there is still that rush of excitement as you attempt to "run the board" and eliminate one of the players. PC games also take about 20-30 minutes at best to play.

Though I'd rather play Victory in the Pacific, if anyone offered up a game of War at Sea (aka, Dice at Sea), I'd be more than willing to play.

Ooh, a scary castle!
I like Knights. I like To Court the King as well, but I still like Knights. I enjoy both of them with 2 or 3 people, more it starts to feel too long. It takes less thought because there are fewer choices, which is not always a bad thing.
I think that a common problem with dice games is that the more people you have the longer the game takes and eventually it outstays its welcome.

My group's game of the month. It got a lot of groans at first because of the name, but we enjoy dice games in general, and as soon as the dice start rolling into the spiffy dice bowl, it was "hey don't attack my Central America! Can't you see that guy over there is going to capture all of Europe if you don't stop him???" And it really does play in 20 minutes as it claims. I know a lot of people compare this to Dr. Knizia's Pickomino but I like this one a whole lot more.

Easy to carry, simple dice game. There's not much to it, but it's fun. We take it camping, to restaurants...the portability is a big deal for this one. Check the session reports for it: they're mostly in restaurants.

This is my favourite game, and it can be a real dice fest. But there is nothing more satisfying as Britain to see the Nazis try a bombing raid with 5 or 6 bombers and they all get shot down. Really have to learn to retreat more often I think.

I think this game is actually a little under-rated. Not a bad little dungeoncrawlish game with lots of dice rolling, + cool abacus counters. I'd love to run across some boosters, but apparently only about 12 were ever made or something.
The earlier versions of this actually had dice that unfolded & used to make the pathways on the board!

This is a fun little dice game. I think that it would play well with large groups as well, because everyone would roll at once. I have shown it to my father-in-law to use at Youth Group at church. I think you could set up a whole Olympics type theme with teams/countries and all if you had enough people.

Knizia does Can't Stop! Sort of.
In this game, you roll two dice, and decide when you want to stop. If you roll an X, then you bust, and you don't get to do anything. If you stop before then, you take the number you roll (the higher number rolled being the 10, and the lowest being the 1, and the highest number you can roll is 76) and place it on the ladder in the middle of the board. The higher the rung on the ladder, the more points it scores. The zinger is that you only score the points for that ladder at the START of your turn, and if anyone else rolls a number equal to or higher than yours, and places their dice lower than you on the ladder, you're bumped off.
I dig this game. It suffers from the same problem as any push-your-luck game, in that you HAVE to press your luck near the end of the game or give the game to another player, but it's always a lot of fun.
