I often play boardgames and wargames solo since this hobby is not popular in Hong Kong, the place where I live. Thus, I own quite a lot of solitaire games. When I pick up a game in a shop, the first thing I try to do is to look at the back of the box to see whether this game is suitable for solo play. It is a great disappointment when I discover a great game which cannot be played solo. At that time, I will memorize the name of the game and then search through BGG to find whether someone has devised solo rules for that game. It is difficult to express my joy when I discover that someone has designed solo rules for my favorite game. Then, a click on the "favorite" botton becomes an instinct. This is usually followed by a trip to the shop to get that game.

Now, I have got a list of solo rules created by members in the BGG. I wish to share this list with you all, especially those solo players.

Here are some guidelines that I follow in making this list:
1. Games are listed by their rank in the Geeklist, popular games come first.
2. I do not include games published before 2000. Thus, the games in my list are still mostly available.
3. For some games, this might not be rules. It may be just ideas how to play the game solo.
4. I also include some games that have official solo rules but have been superceded by better rules designed by BGG users, such as Runebound and Tomb.

Hope that this list can make the good works of those solo rule designers to be more accessible in the BGG.

These solitaire rules for Doom are great. My game ended up challenging and exciting. I used the rules in the top thread.

You start with a random foreman and $60. Draw three load cards as usual. Pay $1 to upgrade to a random foreman if you like or $5 to go through the deck and pick what you want. However, when you discard a foreman it's gone forever; you only go through the unused portion of the deck. For every turn that you use your own track without adding new track pay the bank $1. Upgrading your train is $10 as usual. You win when you have $250 + enough money to cover $10 penalty for any large cities you haven't built track to, $5 for every medium sized city you haven't built track to, and $2 for every small city you haven't built track to. The rule about having to build track to anchor spaces before you can sail and dock in a foreign port is null. However, I don't see a point in hiring a ship when you can get where you want by ocean inlets even if it's a little further and that way you don't have the events messing you up if you are on a ship when you draw one. You will find out within 1/2 hour if you have a chance of winning or go bankrupt. Odds seem to be about 33% of the time you can win. At any time you may pay $1 to discard a load card and draw another; or discard all 3 for $3. The part about discarding all your load cards and drawing three more and that counts as your turn isn't enough penalty as when playing alone you are not racing anyone.

China Markers/Grease Pencils show up alot better than the crayons they give you and still rub off fine with a napkin.

Very handy list. A couple of helpful suggestions in there. Never even thought to seek them out individually. Thanks.
