You know, I've spent a lot of time here on the Geek, but it seems like I'm always learning something new. So the idea of this geeklist is to share those little tricks that it took you awhile to figure out, so that others can learn from your experience.

Thumbs up are tallied by the little green number under the user info as are tips accrued for that item.
Clicking the green thumb number or yellow tip number will tell you which users thumbed and / or tipped that item.
But there is a way you can see the full avatars and microbadges of those that have thumbed (not sure about tips) an item.
Here's an example with one of my images:
/geekrecommend.php?action=whorecommends&itemid=160098&itemtype=image
Just copy and paste that in directly after the ".com" in your address bar. If you want to do this with your own images just put in your image number where the 160098 is
Not sure if you can do this with anything other than images.
EDIT: here's a direct link to that- http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geekrecommend.php?action=whorec...

My trick is if I see something in a post and I want to be able to do that myself. I hit the quote button. That way you see how the other poster did it.
You just go back after you have figured it out and you can try yourself by using the preview button.
In case that you can't quote (something you see in the user profile and want to do) Just take a look at the source of the page. (CTRL+U on my PC)
It is also handy to use tags. That way you be able to find a bunch of related stuff quick I used to do this for languagelevels a lot. But you could make tags yourself. PNP (print and play) is a nice tag.
And if you are not able to figure something out. You could allways ask in the the how to BGG forum. You are bound to get an answer in less than half an hour.

If you want to customise your Front Page then its easy (but I always forget how, so no doubt others do too):
Go to "My Geek", then "Account" and "Customise Front Page". Then you can add, remove and move the different BGG page elements. Who knows - you may discover something you didn't know was there!

Working on a geeklist over time
I know that many people have some confusion about this. When creating a geeklist everytime you save the header or an item, BGG is storing the entire list. So you can leave and then come back later to finish the list before anyone has seen it.
If you do so, you will find the unpublished list under "My Geeklists". It won't go out to the BGG public until you click on the "Submit List" link.

If you haven't looked into this you should. It's a handy app that uses your username to make printable cards of the games you have. The cards have a picture of the game, a high level summary, and suggested players and weight. The idea is to have a card for every game you own, and to use the cards as a sort of quick metagame to decide what game you want to play. The cards also serve as a cool way of showing someone what games you have, as it's easier to flip through cards and look at the descriptions then to pull out every box and check out the back!
The tool has been going through some bouts of instability lately, but it's definitely worth monitoring and checking out in the future when all the kinks are worked out.

This is something I recently discovered after trying to find someone to trade a game with me. Go to "My Geek" and click on "Trades." This will bring you to a page where you can click on "Direct matches" or "Custom search."
Clicking on "Custom search" brings up a page for selecting a specific trade and searching for a match of your choice.
But the one I like is this: Clicking on "Direct matches" brings up a chart which lists the trades you have and matches them with the trades you want from another user. Gives you the users name and what they have for trade that is on your want list.
Great stuff here!

Sending Geekmail to multiple users
Many people don't seem to realize that it is quite simple to send a geekmail to multiple participants in one easy step. Simply put commas between the usernames of the people you want to send it to =
To: Blott, TheMole
It will send a copy of the same geekmail to all the recipients in your "To" box.

See user comments about a game
I was surprised to find out that some people don't know about this, when I posted about it once. So here it is for anyone who doesn't know. It's kind of hidden but I think it's just about the most useful feature on BGG.
On each individual game page, way down at the bottom in the Statistics secion, there is a label Num Ratings. Next to this is a number that is hyperlinked. Click on this number to see everyone's comments about a game. It's the only way I know of to access this feature.
[Update: With the new site design, this is now at the very top of the game pages. Click the "xx ratings" link.]

Games Played Statistics
Many Geeks log their games played. I find this a very useful tool, to find new games that are worth checking out, or to get a quick list of games to recommend to other people. You can filter to show, for example, only what people have played in the last month.
I can never remember how to find this through the menus on BGG, so I put the page in my QuickBar: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/plays/bygame?sortby=distinctuse...
It appears you currently find this through the menus by going to Menus > Stats > Games Played (By Game)
Caveat - be sure to sort by the Unique Users column, otherwise you get to see things like the game Block Off played by 2 people, for a total of 10000001 plays.
Caveat - this is obviously not a random survey. Only the Geekiest Geeks log their plays, I presume. Thanks for doing it, though, all you who do. So take it with that in mind - it basically shows the favorite games of the kind of people who would take the time to log plays (perhps no more Geeky than people who post in a 'BGG tips' geeklist :-)

If you have ever had to add something from a game or category with a huge number of pages of pics its almost impossible to find the one you want. To add misc game accessory and have the picture show a crown royal bag try a Google search on google images in a seperate windpow and copy the image number..
http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=site%3Aboardgamegeek.co...
site:boardgamegeek.com crown.royal
the part in bold limits the search to only BGG. the second part will show any combination of the words "crown" and "royal" with the period acting as a universal spacer. This will hit on:
crown.royal crown_royal crown-royal crown,royal
The second hit for me showed the pic I wanted.
Here is a search for dice tower pics
http://www.google.ca/images?um=1&hl=en&tbs=isch%3A1&sa=1&q=s...
These advanced search options work great say if you are looking for open indexes of MP3's on the net
intitle:"index.of" (mp3|mp4) Lady.Gaga -html -htm -php -cf -jsp -asp

How to link a non-geek picture with a link?
How to do this:
1. First you need a URL you want to link to. Like http://icanhascheezburger.com. Then use the feature here on Geek by adding [ url ] at the beginning and [ /url ] to the end, but without spaces. This should then do this: http://icanhascheezburger.com. They both seem the same, because Geek automatically link all url posted on forums.
2. You then need a picture you want to use for linking. Like this one:
You can do that by searching a picture, coping its location ( http://files.octavarius.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/lolca...) and adding [ IMG ] at the beginning and [ /IMG ] to the end, again, without spaces.
3. To link with picture, you need to know how to do this: LOLCats. This is done by adding [url= yoursitehere.com ]Text that show as a link[ /url ]. Again, wihtout spaces.
4. To get the final solution, you need to replace the text part (LOLCats in my example) with a [ IMG ]You Chosen Picture[ /IMG] link. And then it is done.
Why do I might need this?
You can use this to add your FaceBook sign on forums or your profile page:
or whatever...

I first noticed these on one of the PBF threads and been using them ever since... for yellow, green, red, and blue font, you can use these style tags instead to get color in. I've found them much easier to work with than the square brackets and "COLOR" keywords (click QuickQuote to actually see the tags).....
EDIT: That's right... GL item vs GL comment. See a quotable comment below, or.... use this as a template, but remove all spaces on both sides of the curly braces. Substitute 'b' for blue, 'g' for green, and 'y' for yellow r { SAMPLE TEXT } r
OR
"r|y|g|b" + "left/open curly brace" + "Text to be color-coded" + "right/close curly brace" + "matching r|y|g|b character"
RED Rebel Diplomacy
GREEN Feline Uplift Race
YELLOW (although some end up doing it the hard way like this instead since this one is much easier to see and read.) Alien Orb expansion Alien Orb expansion
BLUE Made Up NOVELTY World.

When you're multi-formatting a string of text, for some cases, the order does matter for how you nest the tags. For example......
Red Alert with standard black underline vs. Red Alert with unstandard red underline vs. Black Alert with unstandard red underline vs. Finally, black on black Click the first comment below to quickquote the formatting.
NOTE: the "r { text here } r" introduced later in this geeklist (item #48 IIRC) will NOT allow this style of formatting! You'll need to use the square braces again, such as [ color=red ] text here [ /color ] Link to that GL item..... http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/34918/item/1743881#ite...
