So I was at my mother's house today, and I decided to glance into the old games cupboard. Squashed below a copy Clue, two copies of Monopoly, and a Pente tube (I owned Pente?) was my old beloved copy of Dungeon. I had not seen it in over 20 years. I grabbed the flattened box, and without opening it, I took it home with me, grabbed my camera, and decided to record the unveiling.

Here is my copy. Looks a bit more weathered and beaten down by time than the one pictured on the left. I never knew what that green monster was coming through the tunnel, but it sure looks cool. I am hoping at this time that I haven't lost much of my contents.

Wow - the back is beat to hell. But more importantly, look at this family. Can you imagine ANY family sitting down to a game of Dungeon and being this happy? Or even playing it in the first place?
(Is it just me or does Dad look like he can't wait to get up and go do something else?)

The rules for Bonkers? What the hell...I don't even remember owning this game. I took a look at it in the database here...don't remember it at all. Maybe I need to go back and dig it out of my parents basement after all this.

Ahh...much better. The rules for the game. I remember reading these over and over again. I remember bringing them with me to school to show my friends so we could discuss playing the game when we went home. Great memories.

A close up on those earlier mentioned ugly yellow dice. Look at those suckers. It's like they invented this boardgame just to try and sell off their excess of yellow plastic atrocities so they didn't have to stare at them in their warehouse anymore.
Hmm...digging around in here...these look like little pieces of notebook paper...what the heck...

Oh my gosh! I remember making my own monsters! I must have decided the game needed a white dragon as well. Not bad art for a 10 year old if I do say so myself. It must be noted that I don't think my penmanship has improved in any way.

OK...a little grim. Apparently I needed to draw in the fresh blood on the axe because he didn't look evil enough. Plus, I don't think he has the forearms and biceps to really wield that thing, but oh well.

An evil wizard. Always a classic. I notice that I went into great detail on this. That's a lot of writing for a small kid. I also decided that he needed to look like an alien straight out of Close Encounters of the Third kind as well.

This has to be a hold over from Looney Tunes, though I probably should have just drawn a twister and left it at that. That is one ugly monkey or whatever it is. Also, I should have probably looked up Tasmanian in a dictionary.

Well that concludes my adventure into the past. I hope you enjoyed it, I know I did.
Nothing like a glimpse into my past - a simpler time where I could spend hour upon hour playing games with no cares and concerns.
