A shameless shill for my current boardgame project, something I've been working on and testing for roughly five years.

Divided Republic is a game themed around the U.S. Presidential Election of 1860, in which four parties contested the White House. The result of the election was the victory of Abraham Lincoln and five years of civil war.
Things could have gone quite differently however...

Each player represents one of the four parties (Constitutional Unionists, Northern Democrats, Republicans, Southern Democrats) in a card driven game that includes elements of area control and political control games. Inspired by countless good (and bad) election themed and political control games, most recently 1960: The Making of the President and Twilight Struggle.

I'm currently in the process of shopping the prototype to various publishers, but I've also set up a Gamecrafter version. One way or another, the game will be released. It's been too much a labor of love not to proceed and see it done properly.

A lot of fun, and has been a hit with those who have play-tested it. Can be played in around 3 hours, sometimes less.

Man Hunt is a light and fast-paced game that is easy to learn. In it you take on the role of Federal Marshalls attempting to capture the Most Wanted fugitives in "the world". You are trying to collect more money than your opponents. Players can play by themselves, cooperatively against the fugitives, on teams, or against each other, but in every mode you're still competing against the fugitives who have their own ways of collecting money. Will the dice roll in your favor or will lady luck grace the fugitives with her kiss?

Organized Chaos is what I like to call a "deck destroying" game. Each player has a 40 card deck of dual cards that each have a side that helps you deplete your opponents' decks and a side that helps you preserve yours. The goal is to be the last player with any cards left in your deck.

These videos will explain it much better than I can in written words:

Dragon Valley - An awesome game that players have continually told me is clean, well thought out and fun.

It uses the divide and choose mechanic similar to San Marco and Piece of Cake. It also has Tower Defense aspects so if you have ever played Plants Vs Zombies on PCs or Consoles, you will fall in love with this game.

Here are some write-ups about the game by people who played it at demos I gave:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/667856/dragon-valley-initial...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/669396/dragon-valley-review

An interesting post I saw on BGG about Dragon Valley:
"I'm selling my copy of San Marco to make room for this because I don't need two games with such similar mechanics and this is the far superior game."

As San Marco is ranked 188 on BGG, I have high hopes as long as I can get the game in the hands of gamers.

Dragon Valley was successful on Kickstarter as of August 14, 2011 and will be commercially available Q1 2012.

Check out the Kickstarter page for more info:

Edited to update the status of the Kickstarter project.

Auction Junktion is a storage auction game in which the players use auction, bluffing and other underhanded skills to win the best treasures while leaving everyone else wallowing in useless junk!

When storage lockers go unpaid or abandoned, the property goes up for auction to the highest bidder!

Each auction is played out with several face down cards drawn representing items in a storage locker. Each player only gets to peek at one item but you are bidding on the entire set. Be careful, because many of the items are worthless junk! Sift your way through the trash to find the hidden treasures!

You’ve got to use all the bargaining skills you have to beat out the competition as well as good bluffing skills to get the other players to buy all the junk.

It’s all about the money; will you have it all at the end or will you be wallowing in a big pile of junk?

(NOTE: This game does not intend to depict real world prices for items found in storage units. This game is for entertainment purposes only.)

A fast but deep game of territory capture: a two-player game takes around 15 minutes; up to four can play. Some quotes from user comments and a geeklist!:

Quote:
"A very enjoyable very low luck area control game. Also very fast."

"Fealty is my type of game: extremely simple mechanics, lots of depth, and the feeling you can always play better."

"Solidly excellent strategy game, probably the best strategy hit I know that fits into such a quick game. Very fast to learn, but the subtleties keep unfolding, and the replayability is very high."

"Fast game, deep strategy, hope the final copy has good components because this game deserves it! Best game of Origins 2011."

"I would play this game all weekend long."

The limited printing was very well received at Origins, and has sold out. You can preorder via Kickstarter for the full printing this fall!

More information is available in the game preview; the limited printing rulebook is also online (PDF). There's even a designer diary, for those who enjoy such things.

Walls of Light is the winner of the Icepack Games Design Challenge!
http://icepackgames.com/index.html#news

After decades of neglect, the Cathedral is in grave disrepair. The Cardinal has commissioned three master craftsman to restore it to its former greatness. Each must strive to rework and beautify the stained glass windows to emulate the light of heaven's glory.

Walls of Light is a light strategy game for 2-3 players. Each player places their colored winks to complete the cathedrals windows. Colored winks can be combined to make new colors. When a craftsman completes a window, he earns points for the number of different colors within that window. All craftsman then earn points for their colored panes in the completed window. The colored dice are used to determine which of the six windows the master craftsman may work on this turn, and in what way they may place their colored pane. Strategy is enhanced with the stained glass cards which allow dice to be rerolled, the switching of colors, the adding of extra colors on your turn, etc.

Walls of Light is a fast-playing strategy game that players of all skill levels will enjoy.

A fast, fun and hilarious beer and pretzels card game with only a handful of rules. You can win by accumulating awesome "Keeper" cards, or by making your opponents run out of cards in their hands, but many of the cards supply their own way to win, such as setting your opponents on fire, or managing to stick around long enough to get your tax return. The object is to win, and not to lose! The game has multiple modules, which can be added over time, so that a new player can jump right in after a minute of explanation. Each module adds another rule to the game, so that the game builds on itself.

This is a public domain game that I invented. UPDATE: In the file section, you will find the manual, as well as a file of cards you can print, then slip into sleeves with old Magic cards or something. There are also a number of copies "out there" handwritten by me onto old library cards!

It feels a bit like playing a bastard child of Go, Checkers and Connect 4. One comment I got was "if I went into an alternate universe and stole their version of checkers and brought it back with me, that's what I think of when I play this"

Pitlane or Wings of War meets Formula 1.
Taking the idea of a movement cards moving system performed on counterclock simoultaneous planning turns.
Races are close fights between all the players and on most of them you don't know who will win the game until the last moment.

The game has a progressive learning curve, on your first games you will try only to finish race without going out of the track and damaging too much your car.
When you know a little how the game works it's possible to do some nasty tricks, but if your opponents get too much angry with you, you will certainly pay for your nasty driving style in following races...

Game materials are beautiful and tracks are gorgeous.
You can play it also on Vassal.

Goblins Drool, Fairies Rule! is a card game of rhyme and reason for 1 to 4 players. Published thanks to the combined efforts of Game-O-Gami, Game Salute, and the Kickstarter community. Available May 2013!

A gang of mischievous goblins have escaped from the fairy ring, and it is up to the players to send them back before they cause trouble. But an ancient spell of rhymes which transforms goblins into fairies and fairies into goblins makes this a trickier task than you might think...

GDFR takes about 15 minutes to setup and play. The game consists of 20 cards, each with a uniquely named Goblin on one side, and equally unique Fairy on the other. Each card side also has one of four Symbols: a Sun, a Moon, a Mushroom, or a Frog. Players start with 4 Goblins each, with 4 Fairies in the middle of the table (Fairy Ring). Players take turns sending their cards one-at-a-time to the Fairy Ring. Rhyming and symbol matching mechanics are used to flip cards over and take cards from the Ring. The first player to end their turn with no more Goblins or with six Fairies wins.

The simple yet thinky gameplay is aimed at giving children a game that their parents will enjoy playing with them. Educational value is an added bonus, by helping children practice language and puzzle-solving skills. Gorgeous artwork by the wonderfully talented Mike Maihack is the icing on the cake!

You can try the game out for yourself now - with your family, your local gaming group, or even solitaire - by downloading the free print-and-play edition linked in the BGG entry. The real deal will be available starting in May, 2013!

Announcing the Launch of a New Competitive, “Better than all your friends” Hollywood themed, Family Bidding Game

A fresh new face in the board gaming world, Monkey Finger Games has created a title which brings the average person into the limelight of Hollywood as a producer.

In a digital world where family dynamics are negatively affected by technology, parents and children just don’t spend quality time together anymore. Monkey Fingers Games and it’s products were launched in early May 2013 by owner Eric Bryan Seuthe II as a way to bring families closer together.

The first game in production, The Award Goes To, is a big-time Hollywood game where you and your family are producers in Hollywood, California. You are all competing to create the best film and earn your place in the Producer’s Hall of Fame. Each producer has access to a
handful of actors, who have various skills and talents in different genres and types of scenes.

Your goal is to match the actor with his or her best role and create a better film than your competing producers. The winner of each round is awarded a trophy for the film. The first producer to receive 5 awards is inducted into the Producer’s Hall of Fame and wins the game!

This fun and glamorous game is only one of the many games in the works at Monkey Fingers Games.

"Elves are very good at board games, and I'm NOT an elf!"

Way back in the mists of time (well, September 2nd 2009 to be precise), Cate Pfeifer posted a contest on BGG to design an original rummy style game - some of you may remember the contest.

The Gaston Game, which Ladybug Lunch re-implements, was placed 3rd in this contest, receiving some very positive comments from the judges, including Mike Fitzgerald. Shortly after the results of the contest, The Gaston Game was picked up by Indie Boards and Cards. Spin forward four years and we find ourselves at this point in time.

Back in May, a week or two before the UK Games Expo 2014, Rebekah Bissell and I agreed that it would be in our best interest if we dissolved our contract with Indie Boards and Cards; we did so amicably with Travis Worthington's blessing and goodwill. This would once again give us full control of the direction to take the game.

Well, for now, we have returned the game to PnP.

At the moment there are 2 ways to PnP (with a 3rd coming later): Print and Play files and links to card decks
