This is our game collection as of April 2008. There have been maybe 40 games that we've added to it since then. The room is in the "loft", so when you walk upstairs you're in the game room. We've got a table in the middle that extends to 5 feet by 5 feet and seats eight. The main Euro shelves are in a nook, and the other shelves we built, specifically for the 5000 count boxes of Magic cards. What you don't see are the short shelves on the other side of the room with games from childhood, D&D books, and some puzzles. I think it's time to add another shelf to the Euro shelves...

I chose Dicke Kartoffeln because I love it and I knew no one else would choose it for this list.

I call this my board game WALL. My Great-grandfather's chair (which is VERY comfortable) fits snugly in the corner. When I sit there, I am surrounded by gaming goodness. The opposite wall is full of books.

I love my fiance for getting me to do this, and getting all of my games out of the closet! It is usually the first thing we show people when they come over.

I chose Survive: Escape from Atlantis! because it is one of my oldest games, and is such a collectable in some people's eyes. If you look closely, you might also see Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit, Magic Realm, an original Can't Stop, and a full set of the original RoboRally.

This is my self-made shelves that store the most games of my collection.

Each self is especially designed to store 10 Alea big boxes, but with increased depth in order games like Age Of Empires or FFG's medium boxes to be fitted well, too. I picked In The Year Of The Dragon as my favorite Alea game.

(Un)fortunately, I have more games at this - post Essen - time. So I have them scattered around on sofa or on my table. When friends are coming home to play, I have to move the games on my bed in order to sit gulp I'm going to buy new shelves as soon as possible.

Operation Bedroom

In the beginning my games where stored everywhere in the house.
Under my bed, in the livingroom, on the attic. Till i saw this geeklist.
I live in a small house in a very expensive part of the country with less space for my game collection.

So I put them all together in my Bedroom and this is the result. I was the only place where i can store my game to get quick by my games. But now 6 month later, after Essen and Spellenspektakel I have to put my new games under my bed again shake or convince my wife to buy a new closet and I think she's not happy with that.

But now she pregnant we really got to find ourselves a new house (with two extra rooms laugh)

First there's the upstairs shelf in the guest bedroom:

The bottom shelf contain some games I'm safekeeping for a friend. And there's also a few non-game related items in the shelf...

One of the bookcases in the living room downstairs also contain some games. First there some in one of the drawers:

and then there's the RPG and Magic collection:

and finally the reason why I chose Warfrog as the item, the Warfrog collection (plus Twilight Struggle):

And then there's a few games in other places as well (including a copy of Agricola that need to find a place somewhere...)

My modest game collection in my basement office, which I actually used to work in. The shelves are from a prior employer who let some of the employees, myself included, work from home (the shelves are bent from the weight of the books that used to be on them). We were allowed to take home whatever furniture and equipment we would need - I filled the bed of a large pickup with the stuff I wanted!

Yes, they're all old war games with two sports games as well. Due to my current employment situation there will be no new games for awhile, but then I haven't even played all of these yet, so that is what I will be doing in the near future.

Panzer Leader was my first war game and is in the center of the picture. Still love that game.

I recently picked up some IKEA bookshelves to house all of my games. My wife and I purchased four Besta bookshelves with doors and drawers. We don't just store my games in here.

Here are the bookshelves in their closed state.

Here's the first set of games in the shelves. These are located behind the first two glass doors.

Here's the second set of games in the shelves. These are located behind the first two solid wood doors.

Here's a picture of all of my small games that fit in the first two sets of drawers at the bottom of the shelves.

Finally, this is the one shelf I was able to claim in the other two bookshelves. Hopefully this small colony will be able to expand and conquer the rest of the shelves in that unit. devil

I picked Power Grid as my game of choice since it's one of my favorite games, and I also tried create a logical organization grid for all of my games.

I'm stoked about my new game cabinet. It's not got as much growing room as the closet that precedes it but ... it's awesome to now have all of the games out where people can see them right when they walk into the house

I chose Magic: The Gathering since it's still one of my favorite games after all of these years and because it's the only game (besides Crokinole) that I own and like that doesn't fit into The Game Cabinet.

Here's the best photo I got of our new storage solution.

The shelving we found at IKEA on sale - $19 each, so this was very inexpensive! If we wanted to in the future, we could purchase another shelf that's half the length, and it would still fit in the closet.

I pretty much organized based on size, but then each shelf itself is (kind of) arranged by publisher. Card games take up the top left shelf, and party games are at bottom right. Over-sized "old school" games sit on the floor beneath the shelves. And at top right we have a box of playing cards, a Cribbage board, the essential Start Player and supplies like baggies and yogurt cups (which we use for tokens, cubes, etc. when we play).

The best thing about this arrangement - room to grow! As you can see there is some space on those right shelves for all our 2010 acquisitions.

And for the extremely geeky and curious:
- For the most part we combine expansions into the original box. Ticket to Ride holds the 1910 expansion and also Switzerland, for example.
- We also like things that are portable - for Carcassonne we use pen and paper to keep score, so the base game + 2 expansions are all stored in that little Inns & Cathedrals box at top left.
- At bottom right under Risk are empty boxes from expansions that we kept "just in case."
